"They" co-opted the teaparty and the OWS movement
"They" co-opted the teaparty and the OWS movement.... this is no different, they see this as an opportunity to co-opt the liberty movement and therefore dictate the narrative of what "they" deem important to the nation.
Rand is just a pawn in this game of politics... they don't actually like him or his ideals but they will use him to gain power within the movement until they control it. Once that happens they will go back to business as usual with talk of abortion and gay rights while simultaneously bashing rand for any thing and everything that doesn't fit with the new media controlled narrative.
I give it a month before the Rand bashing starts.

What Rand did
was great, but it is scary how fast all the media heads jump on the band wagon. Why all of a sudden, what has changed from the 2012 elections up until now? Kinda makes one go Hmmm...
“When a well-packaged web of lies has been sold gradually to the masses over generations, the truth will seem utterly preposterous and its speaker a raving lunatic.” – Dresden James

Spidey senses are tingleing thats for sure
