EPJ: Neocons Reel In The Ron Paulians

Economic Policy Journal:

- snip -

Who could possibly be better than Rand Paul to deliver the votes needed for the Neocons. What a fortunate situation. Rand, over time, has consistently proved to the Neocons that he's not his Dad and can be trusted. When it comes to foreign policy, he's as flexible as silly putty.

That's like music to Neocon ears.

Then comes the "spontaneous" filibuster.

National Stage...everyone watching for hours on end.

In action (i.e., the only thing that counts) the filibuster accomplished absolutely nothing. But the Neocons we're all cheers (Rubin, Krauthammer, Limbaugh, Beck). Buzzfeed even put together a list of just about every other bad guy that got on board.

Sadly, a large number of Ron Paul supporters took the bait...It proved too hard to resist. You'd have to be for Obama droning you to resist, right?

Yet nothing was done. Brennan was sworn in swiftly the very next day, and The White House gave itself enough leeway to drive a Homeland Security tank through with its "letter".

In other words, the ship is still on course. It just now has a bunch of Ron Paul passengers on board!

Or...

Is Rand sucking up to the Neocons because he likes them and will NOT go against them if elected? Just like he's not going against them, now...

the article would make more sense if it stated that

Hillary Clinton is a neocon too.

The Neocons fully intend to run Neocon (A) vs Neocon (B) in 2016.

Just like they did in 2004, 2008 and 2012.

"In the end, more than they wanted freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life, and they lost it all -- security, comfort, and freedom. When ... the freedom they wished for was freedom from responsibility, then Athens ceased to be free."

Yes and that is "win" in a two party "system"

That is why it is very important that we infiltrate BOTH the GOP and the DNC. Only by going inside the 2-party duopoly, can we win it for liberty. Only when we have libertarian Republican vs a libertarian democrat will Liberty win. Think about joining as a DNC PC if that better suits your personal situation.

Did the Neo Cons Reel In Ron Paul Supporters OR

did Ron Paul people reel in the Neo Cons?
It appears to be the latter.. The filibuster drew negative attention to a subject Neo-cons champion which is killing and taking away our civil liberties. The Neo-Cons didn't jump on board until they saw how much support this was getting and they saw it as an opportunity to hurt Obama and garner more support...

Rand Paul has been talking like this all his life but Rubin, Krauthammer, Limbaugh, Beck are all new to this suggesting Rand strategically forced the neo-cons to support him. It was either Stand with Rand for liberty or stand with Obama...

I agree

They waited to see which way the wind was blowing.

i should charge dp for

i should charge dp for reading this bs. I should send this author a bill for this bs article and my time. stupid is all i can say.

Rand was right to forcefully make the point on drones in the U.S

...but the article shows how little and limited in scope Rand's actions are. Why isn't Rand attacking drone strikes overseas as well? Why is Rand supporting sanctions on Iran? Why is Rand making blank check statements in support of Israel? At the end of the day, Rand doesn't do a single thing to offend the neocons. He is a neo-lib, as I have called him before.

Honestly, I don't like Rand Paul, but I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. The filibuster was a good thing to raise public awareness of the tyrannical path we are on. It was just a very small step compared to what is needed.

We all want progress, but if you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive.

Dave Thomas..

Founded 'Wendy's'fast food chain. He was asked once why his Frosty only came in chocolate. His response was 'Because I am in the hamburger business.'

Rand is smart enough to understand what he wants to convey and sticks to that single message. Karl Rove knows this strategy well and so did Lee Atwater. When you stay on your own message and keep it simple it is very hard for your enemies to attack you.

While I find Krauthammer someone I rarely agree with, his assessment of Rand was spot on. It was political genius. He found a way to unite both sides around an issue that is important to all of us, without being partisan.

'Peace is a powerful message.' Ron Paul

I keep hearing this

I keep hearing that criticism, and all I can think is it must be coming from people who did not watch any large portion of the filibuster. he was talking about signature strikes and quoting criticisms of the foreign drone program for quite a bit (saying that it metasticized terrorism like cancer, saying that it was like mowing grass because it kept growing back, et cetera). yes in the end he used all that and said "let's not have that same standard here" and basically said the debate on that is for a different day, but it was clear he was being critical of that.

ultimately the point he made by the limited domestic point is a dramatic way to make this point: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKfuS6gfxPY basically, IMAGINE drone strikes in TEXAS.

he made the point quite a few times that he didn't think Obama would actually use drones on US soil, but he wanted it said. the whole point was to call attention to the drone program, by drawing a worst-case-scenario line in the sand while being broadly critical of the overall lack of oversight.

Filibuster was a dog and pony show

The filibuster made some folks think that something was done when nothing was done. Rand Paul as President would use those drones on us. Rand Paul rode his father's coat tails to get in the Senate and now he is so proud of himself. He is not one of us. He is one of them. Ron Paul never became one of them and always remained one of us.

I am sorry for those who can't see the difference. One a liberator the other with a god complex.

Mike Benoit

That's all politics is nowadays

A dog and pony show. And I think you are wrong with an assessment of rand. Completely if you think he would use drones on us. He has been battling the TSa now for years....why would he use drones on us?

Puts the ronpaul.com thing in perspective

"Lead them around by the nose. That's all they know."

Rand

had my 100% support about a week before he pulled the filibuster.

Im going to volunteer for him.

'Peace is a powerful message.' Ron Paul

If at the end of the day

Some clown ends up the GOP nominee, I won't vote for him. Just like in 2012.

Ron vs Rand?

Ron was pure in all he said and did. Rand on the other hand is playing dirty. Unfortunately to have any influence on govt these days you have to play dirty. Lets just pray Rand's heart stays in the right place and that we can have the wisdom to know where it is. If Ron can't get elected by being pure, let's hope Rand can by playing dirty, otherwise there is only one other way to water the tree of liberty.

Why does it always

come down to politics or water the tree of liberty? What about our courts?? It seems that so many of the Ron Paul supporters who claim to support the constitution don't fully understand how the Constitution works and ALL avenues of securing the blessings of liberty established therein.

National politics requires convincing 100's of millions of people where our Juries only require convincing 12 jurors and once decided by the Jury cannot be reviewed by any court. Why is the conclusion we have to have play a rigged game of "elections" instead of conducting the proper criminal investigations on the individual criminals and bringing each one of them to Justice through our courts? The very process of utilizing courts means that we can accomplish a multitude of objectives in the process of seeking justice:
We can find those in the courts obstructing justice when obstructing our path to the Jury and we can bring them to justice as well.
We can explain in detail to a Jury, a truly captive audience, every detail of their criminal activity and expose the larger picture of systemic crime.
We can obtain search warrants and wire taps when holding probable cause and actually conduct VERY thorough criminal investigations on the criminals without their knowledge.
Through the investigations we can find other criminals who can be targeted in subsequent investigations and criminal actions.
We can have the People of the Jury set precedent and completely nullify whole sections of Unconstitutional codes and statutes.
We can put criminals behind bars and follow up with civil actions against the individual perpetrators to remove unlawfully obtained property or seek remedy for our liberty being taken.
We can make the BAR obsolete and remove their monopoly over defining our laws.
We can even have the death penalty rulings by Juries against those who are committing treason and warfare against us.

There is SOOOO much more we can do in courts than in politics and the probabilities of success are many orders of magnitude greater than in the rigged elections of politics. We have not even begun to utilize our courts properly for seeking justice. Can you imagine what would happen if the millions of people across this country who support and defend the Constitution were to make it their single focused mission to restore order via our Judicial branch? This would most likely prevent that 'water' on the tree of liberty from being the blood of patriots. Most here gets caught up in politics when our courts are sitting there waiting for us to utilize them in there proper scope of securing the blessing of liberty.

There are much better strategies than what is being done in mass right now but this really goes to show how ignorant even the smartest and most liberty loving Americans are of the very laws they seek to protect. Not referring to you explicitly here just saying generally.

this is getting comical. Everyone is expecting unrealistic outcomes.

Some on here have the mentality that we can make all the changes we want over night.

Alas, few liked 4409's assessment either...however true

It was a moment in the spotlight and a lot of attention was gathered. That's what was accomplished. Besides a reinforcement of American Exceptionalism.

There is nothing strange about having a bar of soap in your right pocket, it's just what's happening.

Chris Rossini is confusing Ron Paul's

liberty "Tell it like it is" advancing strategy: i.e. Speak up and Vote for Liberty, even if it makes you outside the GOP tent as the lone voter.....vs......Rand Paul's Zig-Zag strategy for advancing Liberty: i.e. Zig out for Liberty, but when the votes are not going your way, Zag back under the GOP tent for safety as a "team player". You should expect Rand Paul to do this his entire career. If you've been watching closely, you should see that is exactly how he's behaved. Finally, its not about bringing us into the NeoCon fold, its about us outing the NeoCons and infiltrating the 2-party duopoly. You can expect that all us PCs are busy too using this Zig-Zag strategy to advance ourselves up the DNC/GOP apparatus. It is an excellent strategy when you don't have the numbers and most of all it works; just look at that other ideologically small minority group who has infiltrated both the DNC & GOP some 40 years ago, the Neocons.

I agree with this article

unfortunately.

Unfortunate,

but this author has very compelling points.

Logical Fallacies to the extreme

Straw man and a Red Herring. Who would have thought it was possible to have both in such a short article.

You can't win without making alliances and working with people who will work with you. Ron did it all the time, heck he encouraged it!

This is a huge victory, and Chris' attempts to slight it seem petty and lacking in viewing the big picture.

and how many of the neocons that he backed burned him once they made it into power.

Two ways to win and stay pure... Fight as if it's a war and stamp out the neocons at every turn or turn it into an actual war on politicians.

He didn't / doesn't care

This is the problem, you think you have to be friends or life long buddies to work together on common issues. You don't. Which is why Ron worked up until he left with democrats and neocons.

You think you're reading his mind now?

Think he doesn't care about people he supported that sold him out? I've seen evidence to the contrary with Newt..

Working WITH them and putting them in office is two different things igit..

No need to read his mind

when i can just read what or watch what he's said hundreds of times and referenced by his entire career in politics. You are the one trying to infer something he's never said, nor ever expressed. Show me one instance of him saying "don't work with the opposition" and I'll concede my point. Until then you can fuck off with your bullshit name calling.
