Active duty soldier forgot to log out of his gmail account on a "community" PC at a cigar bar...

So, I'm delivering a few boxes to a Cigar Lounge here in town and was waiting for the manager to come up front to sign the delivery receipt. I wasn't in a hurry since its Saturday and I didn't have many stops on my route today. There's a community PC located in the cigar "bar" lounge that I occasionally use to see whats happening on the DP or to check my email when I have a few extra minutes.

Anyhow...today when I sat down in front of the computer I realized that someone had forgotten to log off their gmail account. They had recently received an airline conformation number via email and a prompt box was open asking if the conformation was to be printed. I clicked no and decided to see if the account had any saved contacts. It had over 250! The contacts were even catagorized into groups such as work, family, friends, etc.

I checked the sent items and determined that the guy was an active duty soldier who had recently returned from the middle east. The inbox had a ton of emails. Most had been read but it appears the guy never deleted anything. There was an email from Senator Grassly having to do with some paperwork that the guy was needing to fill out relating to his transition back home from overseas and there were bunches of emails coming from and going to .mil addresses.

I decided to take the opportunity at hand and send out an email to his entire contact list. Obviously this was unexpected so I didn't know what to send but I decided to send a link to the 14 minute video from Architects & Engineers for 9/11 truth that talks about building 7. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=ONo...

and...I also included a link to http://wanttoknow.info/ If I'm not mistaken wantoknow.info was one of the sites that helped wake me up.

Who knows if the people that receive the email will click on the links but hopefully they will. I did log off the email account after sending the educational information to all of his friends, family, and co-workers.

Wow! You really are a thoughtless a$$. No respect for others' privacy. No thought to what may happen to this soldier's career. All about pushing your own agenda. Better make that selfish, thoughtless a$$. smdh

He would be better finding honest and legal work.

Instead of continuing as a tax parasite.

Understandable

A lot of people in the military are there only for the job and because they are afraid that they might find a good one once they leave the service. Can you blame them? The problem isn't so much the military service but the economy as a whole is screwed so many people stay in longer than they otherwise would.

However, by your logic firemen should also all quit. While we are at it most doctors and nurses get a significant part of their salary from the government are they also tax parasites. Keep in mind the system is whats messed up not the individual people.

Yes the system was designed so no child is left behind.

Recruiters came and filled gullible high schoolers heads with lies about the glories of the military, just to get the enlistment and the their bonuses.

Chris Hedges War wrote "War is the Force that gives us meaning."

War is a Racket was USMC Major General Smedley Butler's warning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3_EXqJ8f-0

Howard Zinn bombed European cities in WWII. He asked why? and wrote "The People's history of the United States."

My guess is that we disagree about the nature of productive service. Fire and Police services are hired by local jurisdictions to perform a job.

Fifty years I've watched and have yet to see the military as an organization provide any benefit to society or civilization.

    But here is another opinion.

Certainly there have been good individuals, but was the good they did because of the military or in spite of it.

We now have Ron Paul, the DP, LRC, youtube and a slow awakening around us. That gives you a 50 year head start over me.

Good luck on you travels, may they end well.

    DUDE! Uncool.

I would remove this post if I was you. Your a fool. You just broke the law and then posted that you did it. I hope the Justice department get you.

What you did was WRONG. You invaded his privacy. I hope your boss see this and Fires you! I wish I had his contact info so I could send him a link to this.

As Red Forman would say, "Good job, dumb ass!"

    You hope the..

Justice Department gets him? Wow that's an extremely strange position to take...I don't want the Justice Department to get anyone on here...

    again

if a law isn't broken it means the act was MORAL?

    Wrong.

Again If you don't like something it's not automatically immoral

It may be rude. Or it may be a prank.

So your defense is that it was a prank?

Or are you admitting to only being rude?

....where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is LIBERTY. 2 Corinthians 3:17(b)

I need no defense. I did not make original post.

OK... in your defense for this act

are you saying it was rude or a prank?

This is an amazing social experiment

Consider what was done and remember that our government could do to anyone what was done to the soldier.

Would reaction be the same if an email had been sent simply saying "enjoy your day"?

Would it matter if prior to sending the email, excessive pornograpy and communications with escort services were located in the inbox?

What if this story was made up and never even happened at all?

Consider the attention paid to this post by everyone here. No one was injured and no property was damaged but sending 2 links related to 9/11 fom an open email account has generated a profound negitive reaction. Its stunning.

When the government gathers or analyzes personal information, many people say they're not worried. "I've got nothing to hide," they declare. "Only if you're doing something wrong should you worry, and then you don't deserve to keep it private."

This post has created an excellent thought experiment.

    No injuries or property damage

does not make this okay. You sent this stuff to his "work" contacts which more than likely included his commanding officers. Most enlisted soldiers are not buddies with their officers and only contact them for official business. Our soldiers are being punished left and right for asking questions and criticizing the government. You could have seriously just f***ed up this guy's life.

This is not a social experiment or whatever you're trying to make it out to be. It was nothing more than a gross violation of a stranger's privacy regardless of the content of the email you sent. And the argument that our government could do this to anyone at any time does not make it okay.

    :(

    .

    You probably

got the dude in trouble, but it's kind of his fault for leaving his gmail logged in. I suppose much worse damage could have been done.

We'll never know what kind of damage

could have been done. If this person is in the military and those links were sent to their commanding officers, they could be facing suspended pay or a million other repercussions. Someone's life could be seriously messed up now because a stranger couldn't mind their own damn business. Please don't blame the guy who left his email logged in. That in no way makes it okay for someone to do this to another person.

    I'm not just blaming him

I blame both. Some dick could have leaked the information from the email account. There is some level of responsibility on the military personnel. However, I definitely don't endorse what the OP did.

    i approve of that move.

i think it good to do this. there needs to be an abbie hoffman of the libertarian wing

    lawrence

there needs to be an Abbie

there needs to be an Abbie Hoffman of the libertarian wing.

abbie hoffman creeps me out in general, but i think one is needed.

whatever, cowards. the infowar is fought everywhere. there are no sovereign (sic) boundaries. he has the right to drone strike anyone he wants to with information and the truth.

I lived in a beautiful part of Bucks County a bit north of Philadelphia. I was employed as a carpenter on major projects in the metropolitan area. The electric company, or PECO as it was known, had built a nuclear reactor on the Schuylkill river way on the other side of the next county. Peco had purchased a swath of land across two counties to build a pipeline from the Delaware River with a pumping station to be placed in a bucolic little village called Point Pleasant. The locals were understandably upset about this and proceeded to throw every roadblock possible in the way.
I was employed by the contractor on this project, which was less than 5 miles from my home, and refused to work on it. Instead I traveled all the way to near the Phila. Airport to work on the last link of I-95. Well this project shut down for about three years as it wound it's way through the courts. As expected PECO prevailed and work recommenced on the project. I rationalized that it would be built with me or without me and as I was the father of a newborn as well as a three year old took the job.
As a stategy they had imported Abby Hoffman as an activist against this project making our lives a bit miserable at first. Unfortunately for Abby he woke up dead one morning. My plan to hang a bedsheet from the job saying PECO 1 ABBY 0 was quickly nixxed.

    If not us than who?

could of been worse, but hey

could of been worse, but hey close your email on an open computer. I had a co worker tamper with my fb once. my fault for leaving it open.

you sent info, i see no harm!

    Ron Paul 2016

    Congratulations!

You just implicated Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth and possibly the Daily Paul in an invasion of privacy.

Further, you are now an identity thief and Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth's message is now considered spam by up to 250 more people.

Way to crap on the movement.

We all get second chances. Out of respect for liberty AND privacy, please don't do that again.

Is that really all it takes to give you an excuse to trespass?

    What do you think? http://consequeries.com/

    Invasion of privacy plain and

Invasion of privacy plain and simple.

    If it had been me

I would have been tempted/extremely interested in looking at some emails to see what new stuff might be going down... however sending an email like that/at all is very very uncool. Poor play man.

My hope at this point is that they do look at the links and have a change of heart... but also that the soldier isn't screwed by what you did.

    Isaiah 2:4
And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

    Big dissappointment

that you invaded this person's privacy and fraudulently sent an email in his name in order to spread your interpretation of 9/11. For all you know you got him into deep hot water, maybe ruined his future. The ends do not justify the means. If he had left his home without locking his door would you have walked in and snooped around? I would like to think my fellow DP'ers would have more scruples.

    New Hampshire and Ecuador.

    Shame shame shame on you

Absolutely despicable. gmail is still MAIL and you had no right to invade that person's personal space.
If you had a modicum of decency you would have shut it down immediately.
Time and again I've tried to give you the benefit of doubt but I no longer can since you have wiped it out completely with this revelation.
Now I know what a wretched creature you are.
