Sunday afternoon DP contest- Name this dog

I found a bassett hound this morning and I need a temporary name for her. Let loose with your best libertarian names and we'll see if one fits.

Description-young, female, tri-colored (red, black, white), big ass floppy ears, short legs, long body, waggin' tail.

picture of the dog can be seen here

Personality characteristics-not afraid of big Airedales, likes chasing rabbits, cats, and mostly anything that moves.

For anyone still interested

Just came back from taking the dog to her home. Her owner works out of town but his wife lives here, and she was really happy to get her back. Turns out her name is really "MOLLY", so the Granger gets the official non-prize for being closest with "DOLLY"

Yeah. Until the owner figures out the dog has been hanging out

with libertarians, and now has all these "crazy college kid" ideas in its head about liberty...

Love or fear? Choose again with every breath.

ARF for short

ARF = ar 15 for freedom

And the winner is...

Libby Mc Mises. Of course that will only be her name temporarily until I find her owner.

:) Will you keep her if her owner doesn't appear? I mean you wouldn't take her to the pound or anything right?

I wouldn't have brought her home if i wasn't willing to keep her

If I can't find her owner she'll get to stay here. Taking her to the pound would almost surely be a death sentence, and one she doesn't deserve.

So far there are several

So far there are several suggested variations of Lib(by)(bertas)(ra)
Granger's suggestion of "Betsy"
oldno7jd/scawarren suggested "Ms. Mises"
and bierdegarde/rc liberty round out the top four with "Carol"

These are the names that had either the most suggestions, the most upvotes, or a combination of the two. Any last minute ideas to throw in? I'll end voting in half an hour.

Yep, now I've seen her

Yep, now I've seen her picture and she definitely looks like a
Ms. Mises :)
If I ever find another black male kitty I'm going to name him Hayek.

The one in my picture died last year at the age of twelve (pretty good life for a cat I think).

The harbinger of death!

oh wow, she's gorgeous =)

Hope you can find her peeps! I bet they are missing her like crazy.

I think Libby is a great name, as was mentioned by another poster.

Free includes debt-free!

Name her

Dogma, the Dogma of Freedom is that it is a natural right and if she became a mommy the pups can call her Ma. LOL

"We can see with our eyes, hear with our ears and feel with our touch, but we understand with our hearts."

That's what it says at the bottom of her photo.
Bandy for short

How 'bout...

Senator Schnackleberger.

Or Gerti for short.

Ask it's owner?

Did it have a tag? Check for a chip? Put up some flyers. I'm sure she is missed by someone.

Working on that. The tags on

Working on that. The tags on her collar are from out of town and just have the phone number for the animal shelter. In the mean time I've contacted a local bassett rescue organization operating statewide on the chance that someone contacts them. I'll call the animal shelter tomorrow.

they have a lost dog section-i posted a found dog and was contacted by the owner in 14 min's !

basset puppies go for $500-$1100, take her in to a vet or pet place and have her scanned-bet she is chipped!

The night is far spent, the day is at hand.
And those who have not heard shall understand.

How about

Constance - a french name associated with consistency and fortitude.

Since you didn't like Betsy, how about

Dolly, for Dolly Madison

Who said I didn't like Betsy?

I like Betsy just fine, and vote wise Betsy is in the lead right now!
My dad had a coon hound named Dolly.

Oh, I don't know

I like the name Betsy and she sure is a cutie!

Short for Stanley Dog.

or maybe Terminator - for the black and white divide across the top of his head - known as a terminator in astronomy.

Chris Indeedski!

Daily Paul cured my abibliophobia.

I suggest "Libertas"

Latin word for freedom!

"Liberty tastes sweetest to those who fight for it, and most bitter to those who work to deny it!"

Bassett hounds are a

French breed, so how about "Amour" which is French for Love, or "Joli" which is French for Lovely. (Personally I lean towards Joli)

For pronunciations here is google translate where you can hear the annunciation.

Joli - http://translate.google.com/#en/fr/lovely
