Justin Amash Mulling Senate Run

Check this out folks, this is awesome news. Rand needs help in the Senate!

Eric Hoffer

Washington — The field of potential GOP candidates running for U.S. Sen. Carl Levin's seat in 2014 widened this week.

U.S. Rep. Justin Amash, a young firebrand in the lower chamber who has championed a Ron Paul-style of libertarian politics, said Monday he is "certainly open" to a run in 2014.

"Frankly, we can't afford to nominate another unelectable establishment Republican," Amash, R-Cascade Township, told The Detroit News. "History shows they don't appeal to moderate and independent voters."

He joins U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Brighton, who he is eying the seat now that Levin, the Detroit Democrat, announced last week he won't seek re-election.

"I am giving it serious consideration," Rogers said in a statement. Rogers, a former state legislator and FBI special agent, was first elected to the House in 2000 and has worked his way up to become chairman of the House intelligence committee.

Another contender surfaced on the Democratic side.

I'm all for it but don't give up that house seat unless you're certain :)

If Jennifer Granholm runs

If Jennifer Granholm runs Justin Amash should not run for U.S. Senate. Granholm knows Michigan really, really well, she also has big time name recognition. Unlike our currnet Gov. Snyder former two term Michigan Gov. Granholm went everywhere in Michigan. Granholm left her cable TV show early last month in February.

Polling at this stage is all about name recognition. It is how the olg guard props up their own canidates.

See, people are naturally more inclined to to say that they'd support someone whos name they know versus someone they have never heard of. People are also inclined to view someone less favorably if they are not familiar enough with them to have formed an opinion. A certain part of poll respondents will be unfavorable even when given the chance to admit they know nothing about the guy, just because they subconciously think it makes them seem ill informed to have to admit they know nothing about him.

If you pay attention you see this phenomenon in action all the time during primary time. An outside canidate who voters agree with (though they don't know it) always polls low with poor approve/disapprove numbers versus a well established name that voters actually agree with far less. Of course this becomes a self-fufilling prophecy as the lower polling canidates get less media face time since they poll lower, and thus struggle to build name ID. Meanwhile the big name canidate is getting lots of free press, and the associated insider dollars in donations which are then used to build a ground operation that can keep ID high and turn out the votes to beat a lesser known canidate. Often these canidates will point to their poll numbers as proof of "electability" and a reason for middle of the road voters to support them.

So, for now, know that polls mean nothing. However, out people have to be out front early building name ID, and doing their best to be camera hogs every chance they get, otherwise the early poll numbers will more than likely become their own prophecy.

If you watch Justin Amash's

If you watch Justin Amash's speech at Paul Fest, as well as his stuff on his FB page, i think he's a trust worthy guy, however if he runs for the Senate and loses, he is out of the House as well. See the comment below by Miguel, Mich is a big union state, and the State R's got right to work through, which good for them I say, but there's so many uninformed voters out there....

*Wisconsin Constitution* Article I, Section 25 "The people have the right to keep and bear arms for security, defense, hunting, recreation or any other law-abiding purpose"

Sending someone to the Senate...

is a guarantee they will go rotten.

It's hard enough to keep them honest in the cesspool that is the House of Representatives.

I'm sure Amash is a nice guy, but there aren't many people who even begin to approach the integrity that Ron Paul has, and it takes that kind of integrity not to compromise in the den of thieves we call Congress.

Keep in mind folks, politics in libertarianism is about education, the political process itself is incapable of reversing the growth of the State.

Come on man, you're dropping the, "Sure he's a nice guy" line?

Have you looked at Amash's votes? The guy does something even Dr. Paul didn't do: He explains EVERY vote and hasn't missed a single vote yet. He does it on Facebook, and he updates his own Facebook as opposed to having a staffer do it.

That's some incredible work for liberty and transparency there.

Eric Hoffer

Disagree, all you want.

But, I'd be willing to bet that if he made it to the senate, he'd begin to compromise principle.

This is the situation in Michigan

Rep. Amash can win the Primary no question, but that's not without a lot of work. Justin Amash is the only Republican in Michigan to have a chance to win in November, any other Republican has a zero chance of winning in November. As you all know Michigan is the Mecca for unions. The State GOP made a really big mistake & rammed through right to work & it was very sneaky. That really pissed off a lot of union Democrats & Pro union Republicans. So what was to be a just a mid term election has turned into a general election cause of right to work, Republicans best chance to win State wide in Michigan are mid term elections. Justin Amash has to run on people should have a choice if they want to be in a Union or not. We would also need a Justin Amash for U.S. senate project where people would move to Michigan just to work & vote for Amash. If you are from Michigan & live out of State please consider & make plans to move back to Michigan just as soon if Justin Amash decides to run or earlier.

This may help spread the word

I have been handing this out in PA and Ohio with very warm reception :-)

If Justin feels that he has a

If Justin feels that he has a good chance to win then I'll support him. We definitely need more constitutionally principled senators. Amash should make a great senator.

Hey Amash,

Go for it! We've got your back! The time is now! The support will follow with all of the connections and resources we've built over the years!

This could only be more awesome..

if the one guy that championed Ron Paul was at the top of the front page. Rand would be enjoying the success of rallying the base he needs.

Owners you are.. politics.. maybe.

The manipulation of the message is what is key. No matter either side. As long as people believe in freedom, our society continue to serve humanity.

Lets use this energy to rally ourselves now. Describe another march to victory.

'Peace is a powerful message.' Ron Paul

PPP had a poll before this news...

Amash had a 9% favorable vs 20% unfavorable with 70 percent not even knowing who he is.

in a head to head it was 49/34 Levin over Amash in that poll

I wonder what it'd be like with Levin not on there. Did they do a poll for that?

Eric Hoffer

is there any polling data

on his statewide favorability?

If he does run for Levin's seat

I'll be volunteering for his campaign.

And I'll send in a donation.

I'd volunteer if I lived there.

Google is government.

Boy, that would be nice!

I hope he does!
