The Armed Citizen ProjectSubmitted by coplen187 on Wed, 03/13/2013 - 01:44
Less than two months ago, I had an idea to use free market principles to address the public problem of crime, using private solutions. In short, I wanted to arm the public. I have created the Armed Citizen Project, a nonprofit that is training and arming the public for free! First, let me tell you about myself.
The Second Amendment has always been important to me, but I have always first and foremost seen myself as staunch proponent of limited government, and the Lockean philosophy of the natural rights of Life, Liberty, and Property. The law, as it exists from our Constitution, is largely the intangible representation of these concepts. The gun is the tangible representation of the inalienable nature of these rights. This is one of the reasons that the Second Amendment and firearm activism is so important to me. I strongly believe that Liberty activists can no longer simply hold the line on guns, and must take the offensive.
After I graduated from college in 2008, I moved to Texas. Like a young Davy Crockett, I came for the freedom (and to ride out the recession.) I have been active in the Liberty movement ever since. My desire to bring common sense and founding principle to government from within, led me to choose to attend the University of Houston in pursuit of a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. I have spent the last year and a half surrounded by students that want to change the world by legislating utopia into existence. I do not shy from conflict, and am always ready to fight when I have the weapon of logic on my side. Before every class, I would gird my loins for battle. The experiences I have in arguing common sense with blind ideologues have shaped me into the Freedom warrior that I am today. I now have the tools needed to fight the good fight, and I have chosen the Second Amendment as my battlefield.
The right of self-defense is the most primal of all rights. Our politicians, and their allies in the media, largely do not believe in our right of self-defense. Second Amendment supporters are routinely demonized and painted as extremists. This is not a symptom of reality, but is a symptom of the Narrative. We must win the Narrative back.
Because I am in my final semester of my MPA degree, I have chosen to conduct a policy analysis on the effects of increased firearms on crime as my graduation thesis. Our side must no longer be content to point out the success of firearm saturation in Kennesaw Georgia, or the failure of gun policies in Chicago, as proof that more guns = less crime. These examples will never satisfy the anti-gun crowd. As a result, we will be seeking to prove more than a mere correlation between gun availability and crime, and we must attempt to prove a causal link. The numbers alone will not be enough to win the fight, and we must be bold, provocative, and fearless.
So, with that being said, what is the Armed Citizen Project? We are a nonprofit group that is dedicated to creating new responsible gun owners, and deterring crime through increased firearm availability. It is our hypothesis that criminals do not want to die in your hallway, and that society should exploit that fear in order to decrease crime. We are performing two main tasks; we are arming single and vulnerable women in high crime areas, and in April we will begin arming entire neighborhoods, and analyzing the effects that this has on the crime rate. We have already armed one group of single women, and hope to arm 100 residences in the coming month. In order to effectively measure the impact, we will select areas that are a minimum of four square blocks in size, in mid-high crime areas, and offer all residents that reside within, one free break action shotgun pending completion of a training course and passing a background check. We will then ensure that criminals know that this area exists, and will analyze crime data in the following year to measure the effects. We have already begun to build the infrastructure to expand nationally, and anticipate being a force on the national stage for years to come.
Do we recommend a break-action shotgun for home defense? We absolutely recommend it over no weapon. If we had the resources to give out pump-action shotguns, and handguns with concealed carry training, we would. For every citizen that could be trained, licensed, and armed with a handgun, we can arm 6 with defensive shotguns. We are looking at efficiency, and arming as many responsible citizens as possible. These firearms are cheap, easy to learn how to use, are of little value to criminals, and can be quite effective for home defense. Do not mistake our use of the break-action shotgun as an indictment of more substantial weapons.
One of the greatest aspects of our project is how crazy it is making the anti-gun left. Gun grabbers like Piers Morgan often like to claim that they support the Second Amendment and the right of self-defense, but simply do not believe people should own “assault weapons.” We are calling their bluff. There is absolutely no way to come out against these weapons without showing that you are simply anti-gun, and therefore anti-self-defense. Their philosophy must be called out for what it is, and that is pro-rapist/criminal.
As I mentioned before, we are using free market principles for this project. We believe that a strong charitable foundation is one of the hallmarks of a strong free market. Citizens can pick and choose which causes they believe in, and will donate accordingly. Our project will have a benefit, and if you value this benefit, we ask that you consider making a donation. Raising enough funds by mid-April to purchase 100 weapons is a daunting task, but I know that Liberty minded activists are willing to put their money where their mouth is. We are also accepting firearm donations, even of firearms that are not break-action. Break-action weapons donated to us will likely be given to participants, while other weapons donated will be liquidated and used to purchase new break-action shotguns. This is the one form of redistribution that the Obama administration is sure to hate.
For the sake of brevity, I would ask you to visit our website if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. You can learn more about us and/or make a donation if you would like. We are living the dream, empowering citizens, one free shotgun at a time! We hope that you will join our fight.
