According to John McCain, I'm one. And so are star senators Rand Paul and Ted Cruz.
What makes us wacko?
We fight for liberty and the Constitution.
This past week, for example, Rand had a straightforward question for the Obama administration:
Does the president have the authority to use a weaponized drone to kill an American not engaged in combat on U.S. soil?
Attorney General Eric Holder, our country’s top law enforcement official, should have been able to answer that question easily. If the Constitution’s due process protections mean anything, it's that the government can't summarily execute its own citizens.
Yet days passed, and Holder couldn’t give a clear answer.
Rand Paul led a historic filibuster to get assurances from the administration that it wouldn't use drones against Americans in those circumstances. About 13 hours later, the filibuster ended, and Holder finally gave Rand--and the American people--the administration's answer.
Apparently this effort offended John McCain. And he lashed out at Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, and me--along with other Americans who stood with Rand in defense of our civil liberties.
McCain may call us wacko birds, but Rand, Ted, and I aren't embarrassed to uphold our oath of office to support and defend the Constitution.
The truth is that with so much at stake, we need more elected officials with the courage to defend Americans’ constitutionally protected rights.
We’ve learned recently that the President maintains a “kill list” of individuals he personally has authorized the government to kill. We know that the list has included at least one American citizen. Now the administration is building secret drone bases in the Middle East and Africa, without any public debate or authorization from Congress, and based on a vague “national self-defense” rationale.
I’ve stood up for our civil liberties, and now I need you to join me. John McCain and his allies need to know that there are millions of Americans who won’t let their civil liberties be trampled on. He needs to hear from the millions of “wacko birds.”
Would you stand with me by signing my petition to John McCain?
I’m making the petition a top priority over the next week. I’ve even reserved a website for the petition that’s easy to remember and forward to friends:
Rand, Ted, and I need some help. We need you to back us up. Please sign my petition and forward it to five of your friends today!
