This Just In - New Pope Elected

New Pope is Cardinal Bergoglio of Argentina; (first Jesuit Pope) takes the name POPE FRANCIS

About Cardinal Bergoglio

A brief Bio of Pope Francis from Wiki:

As cardinal, Bergoglio was appointed to several administrative positions in the Roman Curia. He served on the Congregation of Clergy, Congregation of Divine Worship and Sacraments, Congregation of Institutes of Consecrated Life and the Congregation of Societies of Apostolic Life. Bergoglio became a member of the Commission on Latin American and the Family Council.

Upon the death of Pope John Paul II, Bergoglio, considered papabile himself, participated in the 2005 papal conclave as a cardinal elector, the conclave that selected Pope Benedict XVI. A widespread theory says that he was in a tight fight with Ratzinger until he himself adviced(sic) crying[clarification needed] not to be voted.[1] Earlier, he had participated in the funeral of Pope John Paul II and acted as a regent alongside the College of Cardinals, governing the Holy See and the Roman Catholic Church during the interregnum sede vacante period. Cardinal Bergoglio remains eligible to participate in conclaves that begin before his 80th birthday on December 17, 2016.

Here we go lol

I can possibly understand why some of the Cardinals were glad not to be chosen :P

ie. I heard he is a former British Secret Agent ;)

Hmm, the first Jesuit Pope, you say? And from Latin America?

Better look out, my neighbors to the South. This is a message from the IMF/World Bank/Vatican Bank, and it says loud and clear: We're coming back to finish the job.

Mark my words for posterity and the notary. Things are about to heat up in South America.

Do we know the name of the running mate yet?

even Teddy Roosevelt disdained pandas

"The Black Pope" refers to the leader of the JESUITS...

and Cardinal Bergoglio is a JESUIT.

dont forget the moyle when it comes to pedo

Pretty heavy comments!

Pope Francis I is from South America, and the most religious of leaders there just passed Hugo Chavez, either like the other three South American leaders, from premature cancers, or you name it. Coincidence? This indicates a waning of influence from North America flowing over the southern continent, and a lessening of the former kind US influence in the region.

Did you hear the news?

The new Pope is Catholic and the official church language is going Latin.

If you see something, say something, the government is listening.
Silence isn't golden, it's yellow.

not sure I am too excited about this guy

The fact that he is a Jesuit is a bad sign. The Jesuits are the lefty side of the catholic church. They are all about helping the poor and opressed, so they reliably preach pro big government claptrap, which of course defeats their purpose unless they just want to make sure there are always lots of poor people to take care of. Well, we'll see what becomes of him, maybe he'll suprise me. Worst case the guy is totally batshit crazy, but he is already 77, so he probably won;t be around for 25 years like JPII.

New challenge, and new opportunity?

Socialists, communists, and advocates of "liberation theology" indeed were the main sources of opposition to imperialism, neo-mercantilism, and fascist croney-capitalism in the past, before libertarian and Misesian politics obtained a hearing since 2007.

Given the abject failures their socialist politics inflicted upon everyone in a utopian dream to secure human well-being, and given that we really offer hard-hitting challenges to a badly defective and corrupt status quo on the verge of worldwide collapse, a retrogression to a socialistic or neo-Marxist philosophical/religious dominance that we saw in Catholicism during much of the XX century is not a foregone conclusion!

Even if they are leftist Jesuits, the new Pope and His advisors may be more willing to listen to our alternatives if we show that we libertarians are indeed a serious intellectual, political and cultural movement dedicated to the improvement of justice, peace, and prosperity throughout the world! We can do it, socialists can't!

Is it the "Peter The Roman" that has been rumored?

Is the pretend Holy See finally merging with the Black General?

Santorum should be tickled!

Rick Santorum was born in Winchester, Virginia, and raised in Berkeley County, West Virginia, and Butler County, Pennsylvania. He is a son of Aldo Santorum (1923-2011) and his wife, Catherine Santorum (née Dughi, born 1918). His father was an Italian immigrant, originally from Riva del Garda, Italy, and his mother is of half-Italian and half-Irish descent. Santorum’s father emigrated from Italy before WWII. Although his wife has claimed that he served in the U.S. military during WWII, no documentation of that service can be found, and no evidence can be found that he ever became a U.S. citizen.

In 2002, Santorum traveled to Rome to speak at a centenary celebration of the birth of Saint Josemaria Escriva, founder of Opus Dei. He and his wife were invested as Knight and Dame of Magistral Grace of the Knights of Malta in a ceremony at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York on November 12, 2004.

Santorum and his wife...

Are members of Opus Dei? Are you flipping kidding me?

Correct me if I am wrong

...but don't you have to very hard working to be a member of the this OD? His father, a miner I think would have been suitable.

The guy really is Italian. He was born in Argentina, but his

Dad migrated to Argentina from Italy. His last name is Italian. So really there isn't a big change. Another Italian Pope.

That is like saying I am not American

He was born there?

I thought I read that he moved to Argentina 30 years ago from Italy?

Welcome to the DP

Where you can get and participate in the latest hate news towards Jews, Catholics and Rand with a healthy serving of ridiculous conspiracy theories.

To the owner of the site and all of you that actually make contributions to this site, please excuse my remark.

I know what you mean. I always love

seeing the posters here being just as bigoted and nasty toward Catholics as the war mongers are toward Muslims. Then in the next post they will feel very arrogant and superior to the "Muslim haters". (sigh)

Of course, this response will be vigorously denied... followed by more vomitous bile toward the Catholic Church to justify their positions.(sigh)

Thomas Jefferson: “Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that His justice cannot sleep forever."

Viva La Revolucion!

Welcome to the DP

Where people bitch about posts they have a disagreement towards and project their biases as hatred from others.

Case in point, there's many pro-Christian threads, but you don't see me going around saying the DP is full of religious zealots.

Sorry bro, you got it wrong

Not bitching about the post, the post was simply a news article. I am projecting my biases as hatred from others? What are you talking about? Are you a psychologist? Eeek, you got me all figured out. Now what do I do?

Your case in point is not a case in point at all. I don't go around attacking threads because of a bias. I'm actually defending individuals beliefs without the bigoted bias that occurs here. Get a clue junior. And you get upvotes for that weak attempt at sounding smart?

I thought I was being clear, but I suppose I wasn't.

Where you can get and participate in the latest hate news towards Jews, Catholics and Rand with a healthy serving of ridiculous conspiracy theories.

This sentence would indicate that you have a more than favorable view of Jews, Catholics, Rand and less than favorable view of conspiracy theories. It would also indicate that you consider threads regarding these topics, which aren't completely positive, as being opposed to your own opinions.

Hence, you are taking your biases (favoritism of those topics) and portraying topics that go against them as "hatred."

If you're defending individual views, then why are you attacking views that you disagree with? I love freedom of speech, but there's a difference in me as an agnostic saying I disagree with Christian faith and me saying Christians are fools who believe in magic (Just to be clear, I'd use the former argument).

But I wouldn't classify Christians opposed to atheism as hateful. Of course, that's dependent on a case by case basis.

A Swing And A Miss, But Nice Form

Nothing about that sentence indicates a favorable view of Jews, Catholics and/or Rand. It is simply pointing out consistent bias from a small group of people on the DP towards these groups which you supposedly abhore. Is it not the importance of the individual that unites so many of us? Because of a few bad actors in any group does that then mean we condemn them all? If someone isn't deemed as 100% idealogically pure by the brain trust that is the DP then we throw them away as a sell out?

Regarding the conspiracy theory piece, notice I qualified that with the word ridiculous. Yes, I do have a bias against ridiculous conspiracy theories that do nothing but distract people from what's really going on but I also don't slam them on their posts as I believe they have a right to believe what they want regardless of it's measurement on the you can't be serious scale.

What you conveniently left out of your analysis was my following comment: "I'm actually defending individuals beliefs without the bigoted bias that occurs here."

I could care less if you believe Unicorns created the world, your personal faith/belief system matters not to me. As Thomas Jefferson said more eloquently, "But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg."

If you didn't have bias

You wouldn't consider the posts about Jews, Catholics, and Rand on the DP as hatred.

Enlighten me, which threads are being hateful towards Jews, Catholics, and Rand - and why? What makes them hateful?

On the topic conspiracy theories, I don't believe all of them, but are you of the opinion that there aren't conspiracy theories that are true?

If you have no personal biases then you wouldn't refer to posts you have disagreement with as hateful. You'd make a logical stand to them expressing your own difference of opinion and facts or theories you have to dispute them.

PS: What did your original post have to do with the new Pope? I was actually in the middle of writing a post asking why it was getting downvoted. I don't have any understanding of why a post providing information, neither positive nor negative would receive downvotes.

There are no absolutes

I don't consider all posts about Jews, Catholics and Rand that are not positive as hateful. Only the ones that are or basically say Jews are the cause of the worlds problems/financial issues, all Catholic priests are pedophiles and that Rand is horrible because they don't agree with 100% of what he votes/stands for.

What makes them hateful is the language used, the assumption that all are bad because of a few bad ones, etc.

Some consipiracy theories are true, others are absolutely ridiculous. The ridiculous ones take away from finding out the truth to the ones that really are conspiracies.

I think in some way we all have biases to be honest and fair. The ones I've expressed today are not because of disagreement, but because of the one apple spoils the bunch idealogy. I do make logical stands to express my difference of opinion, please review my past comments. Remember not everything is 100%, even my desire to be unbiased.

The pedophile comments are what caused my original post. Pedophiles are sick, horrible individuals but not every Priest is a sicko. I agree, nothing against the OP, just an informational post.

Then we have some common ground

Upvoted you. I agree with everything you said here. Your original post was much more blunt and short. If you had written this originally I would have had no opposition =)

I wish you had made the comment regarding the pedophile priests in the beginning because I agree 100%. I do find it disconcerting that users here would pigeonhole all Catholic priests as pedophiles in nature.

I think it's wrong morally and logically for anyone to portray that view.

Nothing will change, he is just a man.

Endless prayers, anti-abortion laws and free borders can indeed increase the number of poor and poverty. I wonder what other tools, besides miracles, the church has to increase prosperity.

Argentina? Isn't that where all the SS men escaped to?

I wonder if he knows any of those German Argentinians.
