Another prominent 'progressive' starts to wake up...

Waking From My Moral Coma
By William Rivers Pitt | Truth Out

I've been having trouble with mirrors lately. When I look these days, I see a bastard staring back, a stranger, a guy who should be ashamed of himself.

He is.

A long, long time ago, I wrote this: "America is an idea, a dream. You can take away our cities, our roads, our crops, our armies, you can take all of that away, and the idea that is America will still be there, as pure and great as anything conceived by the human mind."

I still believe that, and therein lies the problem. I am a sucker for that dream, that idea, and for the last few years I allowed it to seduce me.

Ah yes, the antiwar Left wakes up

And starts the day by giving themselves a massive and belated bye for being lulled into blissful slumber by the post-racial pied piper of death.

Nothing but a reaction to Rand Paul dumping a bucket of cold reality in their face by "out-lefting" them on the antiwar front.

Suck it Pitt.

What made this country so great?

What made this country so great? Among other things, the separation and division of powers, learned from hundreds of years of sad experience in Europe and colonial America. Not this airy-fairy nonsense.

The downfall of our Republic is not the fault of any one individuals' bete noir, or white whale in this case. I'm so TIRED of hearing about Boooooooooooooooooooooooooosh and Nobama. Enough already with the personality stuff. UGH.

Sorry, I probably didn't address his essay exactly

I struggle to understand what this means:

"A long, long time ago, I wrote this: "America is an idea, a dream. You can take away our cities, our roads, our crops, our armies, you can take all of that away, and the idea that is America will still be there, as pure and great as anything conceived by the human mind.""

Obama is far more dangerous than Bush

because he is a better communicator and he is exploiting the tyranny of the majority to grow the state.

This ass hat is still

This ass hat is still dreaming he just traded one dream for another. He still thinks Obama is a better man then Bush and that its not about Obama blah blah... Obama is every bit the war mongering POS Bush was and more... I hate fucking idiots like this who think they figured something profound out and are only eating the other end of the turd... Sigh

"The two weakest arguments for any issue on the House floor are moral and constitutional"
Ron Paul

Blah. I tried reading his

Blah. I tried reading his piece but it was making my brain hurt. Progressives are so morally reprehensible. The only reason they hate war so much is it's less money for welfare, nanny statism and gun confiscation. I guess I'm not very tolerant of statists in my (32) old age.

Miss placed Empathy is still better than no Empathy at all...

That is why I find republican warhawks so reprehensible, they lack empathy. Give me an anti-war liberal any day, at least there is Empathy to work with. Take his bleeding heart pleas for a $10 per hour minimum wage. We can tell him, your heart is in the right place, but your means destroys your ends. We can hold their nose to their own goal of helping the poor. That is, with their miss-placed empathy, we at least have SOMETHING to work with.

no drones aren't the problem

It is the people behind the drones that are the problem- namely Barack Obama!!!!!

Drones are different only in people are asleep and so they think they are different. So, with drones we are now bombing how many different countries that we in theory are not at war with????? But that the thing, we ARE bombing people in these countries and it is only a matter of time before the world retaliates.

Drones; I hate Drones

Everyone below has great posts about the author's nonsense.

My question is why do liberals always go out of their way to point being dead by a drone is no different than being dead by a sniper (or seal team)?

Its because these blood thirsty bastards really actually love drones.

Yes I agree to a point a bomb is a bomb, but no american soldier is in any danger during a drone strike. The other methods there are dangers to the troops (even a random helicopter crash kills a few soldiers). Also drones are are much cheaper than choppers or planes.

So why make excuses here? Its really not that complicated. Drones are the most efficient killing machine at the disposal of the state and they can fly them anywhere they want. Every time drones are brought up this point should be gone over.

Not to mention the other psychological parts of it. At least when your sister is killed at her wedding by a hell fire missile from a chopper you might catch a glimpse of the assholes face that pulled the trigger. You can jihad against that trigger puller...A drone strike is faceless, who are you going to direct your revenge towards?

These liberals need to spend their days with their children listening to the buzz of drones flying overhead. Never knowing when the next bomb might be dropped or that while the children gather fire wood they may cross paths with wrong guy on somebody's kill list. A list put together by the keystone cops.

This guys article has distinct odor to it...I smell bullshit!

Your statement here hit me

Your statement hit me hard:

A drone strike is faceless, who are you going to direct your revenge towards?

I thought about the following: Assuming those who proliferate contraband, arms, bombs and every other weapon of war are those who can or do proliferate drones, then what we're looking at is an elevation of warfare to the maximum in which persons worldwide will be asking your question: Who to direct revenge to? I sat on that thought as if many, most or all Americans will ask it if drones attack Americans.

Always war orders are from behind the scenes. Always everyone is fooled into fighting and innocent people are maimed or killed, a number probably in the billions since war started, you know, at least two thousand years ago. Meanwhile, the evil persons, the ones planning wars and issuing orders (now worldwide), aren't known, therefore they aren't targeted. Every war, all the strife, all of it is false. ALL. OF. IT. The retaliations, all of them, wrong, they were on "this" when they should have been on "that."

Just think: How are people here, in the USA, going to cope when people worldwide hate us (but should be our government and its controllers) while drones (our government's, a different government's, whose drones?) are in our skies attacking us? Being hated and screwed from the outside and from the inside -- what a plan, a satanic plan, to plummet a country and to prevent it from resurrecting itself. My god. If things don't turn around soon, the USA is toast.

School's fine. Just don't let it get in the way of thinking. -Me

Study nature, not books. -Walton Forest Dutton, MD, in his 1916 book whose subject is origin (therefore what all healing methods involve and count on), simple and powerful.

Well written. Nice start

Now he needs to throw some water on his face, shave, get dressed and face the rest of the music:

Hello to all of those weapons being turned against us in the corporate fascist police state your buddies continue to build here.

How is a guy that is the same as the last guy, only 10x more devious slick and evil ... *better* than the last guy?

What does it take to get some people to just wake the fk up and admit they were / are delusional?

This is what...

This is what destroyed his credibility:

"I believe Mr. Obama to be a better man than his predecessor.."

He is too intellectually dishonest to admit that he had his head shoulder-deep in his own rectum when he supported BO. I would have continued reading his posting and paid him some respect had he simply come out and admitted that he made a mistake when he supported BO and that BO is a dishonest murderous monster.

how is this progressive "waking up"

Sounds like they are just reaffirming themselves to continue to fight to bring the Bush year folks to "justice" whatever they believe that to be. They clearly still have not figured out the Obama is the same as Bush, nor even made an attempt to stomach the facts of the matter. By still supporting Obama unquestioningly (by basically saying he is a great guy but he can't change anything so it isn't his fault) the author continues to support the war and the random violence that goes with it. All because the author is too proud to admit that he/she is a major part of the problem, and that her people are just as culpable as those that the author fought so long and hard against during the Bush years.

How is Obama not like Bush, as the author claims? What exactly makes Obama "better"?

It seems to me, that the author is still stuck in the matrix, desperately holding on to the false paradigm, while the truth stands right in front of him, closer than it's ever been before. Why does he refuse to open his eyes and look directly at it?

Because it is easier for him

Because it is easier for him to admit he was wrong for the past couple of years than it is for him to admit his primary paradigm can't work.

Does Congress trade our rights for raising the debt ceiling?

They already have us jumping through hoops at the airports.

Watch them run when we send the drones out. That is worth a couple trillion in crowd training fees.

Free includes debt-free!

The propoganda

sure worked didn't it? A nightmare sold as a dream.

He is still failing at life

Sad but true.

The first few sentences, I was ready to come back and give you hell about leaving room for people to wake up. But I kept reading. He seems unaware that a child killed by Obama is just as dead as a child killed by Bush, and thinks Obama is basically a pretty good guy. His last sentence, "I am awake." Nope. Not even close. But it is nice to see some ragtag remnant of the peace movement has taken note that there are wars going on still.

Love or fear? Choose again with every breath.

Thanks for sharing!

here's my favorite paragraph..."I am finished with the moral geometry that says this is better than that, which makes this good. This is not good; this is, in fact, intolerable. Allowing the perpetrators of war crimes - widely televised ones at that - to retain their good name and go on Sunday talk shows as if they had anything to offer besides their ideology of murder and carnage is intolerable. Entertaining the idea that the billions we spend preparing for war cannot be touched, and so the elderly and the infirm and the young and the weak and the voiceless must pay the freight instead, is intolerable."
