That Time The U.S. Almost Nuked Cairo

I’ve heard of the 1964 Israeli attack on the U.S.S. Liberty before, but this interview conducted by Robert Wenzel really blew my mind, and I highly recommend carving out the 41:36 worth of time to listen to it. Wenzel talks with historian Robert Morrow and Judy Morris about the event, and uncovered many details I’d never heard before.

One of the most fascinating things I learned were how LBJ had ordered U.S. jets armed with nuclear warheads to be sent to attack Cairo – the attack was meant to be blamed on Egypt – and were only 3 minutes away when they were called off.

Whether you’re a history buff or you’ve never even heard of this event before, this interview will spin your head around.
