Sermon on the mount

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Good Sentiments

You do realize that was written as taught by Krishna 300 years prior to Jesus, right?

"In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot."--Mark Twain

When...

When 'Krishna was speaking to Arjuna in the Gita'? Just wondering if you've read both of the things you are comparing, because saying they are the same is simply a false statement [to put it lightly]. Just look at them side by side; that was not "written as taught by Krishna" at all.

As for the time frame; considering the 'history' of the Gita and the lack of an actual time frame; that is a huge stretch to even quote a time. Even scholars that believe in the Mahabharata heavily debate the Gita as far as how it was originally delivered, when it was delivered, etc.

The Holy Bible has direct historical ties; with confirmed dates; and confirmations of Jesus' existence; including the day of the crucifixion.

I truly think people hear things in movies and articles and believe them immediately. I remember someone discussing the "crucifixion of Krishna" and likening it to Jesus Christ; I laughed immediately. They said that scholars had believed there was actually a crucifixion, to which I responded "that's not what the text says." The Mahabharata 'states 'Krishna' was pierced by an arrow from a hunter who mistook 'Krishna' for game [a deer]'. (Which actually goes against the Mahabharata's own teachings of Krishna - which is why the scholars developed the 'crucifixion theory', so they attempt to explain a fallacy in their own 'sacred text.')

The comparisons people draw are often so flawed for the very same reason their political views are flawed. They hear/read it somewhere and believe it; while the facts are available if you just put in the time.

Actuall I mispoke

Krishna was teaching the original Beatitudes which came from Buddha far earlier (I jumped the gun, it's been a long time since I thought about this stuff), from his Seven Conditions for Salvation often called "The Mount of the Seven Beatitudes" (because he was actually on a mountain). They were rewritten and translated not only by Krishna but also the Greeks and Romans.

I never made the claim that Krishna was cruxified, and never have. There is no need to get into parallels between Buddha/Krishna/Jeshua, that would take forever. However, I did have a couple responses:

The Bible has "confirmations of Jesus' existence"? Really...the religious text used to describe their god-man savior "confirms" his existence. How convenient. I mean really, if it didn't it would be really stupid writers.

"including the day of the crucifixion" -- Again, the earliest Gospel was written anywhere from 65-85 years after the alleged crucifixion and then rewritten 400 years later. Of course they are going to confirm a date. No one has ever produced Roman or other records to confirm anything ouside of a connection to another event. And, if we know the date - why is Easter different every year?

No, there is not one piece of non-Biblical evidence for Jeshua/Jesus's existence. (Aside from one small paragraph from Josephus that wasn't even written in the same grammatical style and is a blatant alteration hundreds of years later). You cannot use "evidence" from the Bible to prove the Bible.

Uh, I believe the Catholics

invented persecution.

This really wasn't all that funny until I saw all the whining.

So you are ok with

Tyranny and persecution, as long as it's towards people whose "ancestors committed crimes? I have just as much protestant ancestry in me as I do catholic(and I'm not talking in terms of blood. Silly me, I was under the naive impression that the common thread on this site was continuity of principle(oh yeah, and tolerance). What was I thinking???

If we deny truth before your very eyes, then the rest of what we have to say,is of little consequence

Does Christ Support Pedophilia?

Before you preach 2,000 year old nonsense, modernize your thinking and realize the corruption of the Catholic Church. I seriously question the validity of your "morality".

Of course not

My thinking and morality are just fine. Guess you should tell Dr. Paul the same thing. We'll both ultimately know the truth one day. You're obviously lonely and needing attention given your post and comments, I honestly feel sorry for you more than anything. Don't care what your beliefs are, your intentions show your character. The video was just bad regardless of the topic.

childish

Get a job man.

I love you

seriously, I do.

DailyPaul is a discussion place about principles and government.

This place stands for principles. I grew up in the Catholic Church community, and I've been a Republican.

I can't with conscience support any Group Think Labeling as bad or good.

deacon, I'm downvoting you because you are afraid of discussion and seem to have been complicient for this comment and Not Repentent of crimes against innocent people. THAT ARE PROVEN!

Such a Shame, us not a good way to promote the Catholic Faith, if we respect the Truth.

God Bless,
Base

I'll Argue!

What principles? This post and the minority of comments that have tried to stick up for the OP, have been condemning individuals for association and affiliation. The is no continuity of principle here.

Can you say that every catholic wants to abuse children or persecute people of different beliefs? Is it doctrine? If it doesn't apply to whole whole than it shouldn't be used to condemn the whole!

If there was any group or site i felt like i could go to where i could be judged as an individual and not by my affiliation or by the practices of people who affiliate with me, i thought it was here!

Silly me, i thought i had found a place where individuality was held in the highest regard and judged independently of the actions of other men!
Continuity of principle when it serves your purpose!
There is no argument here, just a few people who really don't belong!

afraid??

no,not really
the title was false,so therefor is a lie
the pope did not say them things
now if the title had said "a parody"
or good/bad lip synching, then it would have gotten
a better reception from me
I do know about the popes and the catholic faith
and had you clicked my name, then all comments, you would have seen the truth i put out there
had the title stated here is the transgressions/sins.lies
or what ever else, then i wold have been behind it
but it started out a lie,and it still a lie
this is my stance, but the shame from my first comment was about how it was done, and put out there as if it was the truth, when in fact
it is not

Although I won't watch the video (minimal time for silliness), I laughed just at the title of this thread since the title demonstrates ignorance of scripture. The False Prophet will reside in Rome. The Anti-Christ will reside in the rebuilt temple in Jerusalem. Stop the slop.

False Prophet in Rome; Anti-Christ rebuilt temple in Jerusalem

Where do you get this information?

Are there specific verses in the Bible?

Thank you.

My statement is simply a

My statement is simply a common interpretation of scripture in light of events for the past 2000 years, i.e. the continuation of the Roman Catholic institution. There is little doubt that the Anti-Christ will reside in Jerusalem, but the possibility is quite high in my opinion that Rome will be the seat of the False Prophet although the latter isn't directly specified in scripture. This subject is controversial and definitely subject to debate. However, the allusion in the title that the Pope is the Anti-Christ is clearly in error unless the RCC moves their seat of power to a rebuilt temple in Jerusalem.

During the Roman empire, several prominent cities were known as a city of seven hills including both Rome and Jerusalem.

I'm rating your post upward for asking a very pertinent question.

Yup. I'm a Catholic.

Thanks. You know, I dont come here for this shit.

arent there any religious hate sites

You could go to? Why would you ever think that you could find fraternity at a place like this? You're worse than a troll. You're an idiot. You are a sheep. You just chose to follow on this side of the line. News flash buddy, you're not a real human being. You're just a guy who thinks he is more aware then everybody else. You're just a pretentious insecure, little man who TRIED to be peoples friends growing up but that was too hard. You revel in your own self righteousness just like Krugman. And just like Krugman you'll never understand that your wrong because, you dont care about your opinion of yourself. All you care about is peoples perception of you.

WTF?

Not funny. I am not Catholic but I did not find the video funny.

Dude...

I was raised Catholic, my whole family is devout Catholic, I have great respect for Catholics versus other sects. The video was made by a Catholic. It is just a little satire based on the pomp and circumstance in the Vatican vis-a-vi Star Wars endings.

Dumb...Here is a classic Pope video that is actually funny
