McCain Apologizes For Calling Rand Paul, Ted Cruz ‘Wacko Birds’

Friday afternoon on Fox News, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) delivered his first on-camera apology to his Senate colleagues Rand Paul (R-KY) and Ted Cruz (R-TX) for calling them “wacko birds” in an interview with The Huffington Post following Paul’s filibuster.

Responding to a question from Neil Cavuto about his recent confrontations with the younger generation of his party, McCain offered a humble and sincere apology. “In an interview I said that Senator Paul and Senator Cruz were ‘wacko birds,’” he said. “That was inappropriate. I apologize to them for saying that because I respect them both. I respect what they stand for and what they believe in.”

Memo to McCain

For The Power of The Republic!

SteveMT's picture

This is a typical political maneuver by McCain.

He attacks someone with a vengeance, then he halfheartedly says that he is sorry and all is now suppose to be better. This is equivalent to putting a knife in someones back, removing it, and believing that all is back to normal. Why didn't McCain learn anything during his six years as a POW?

Goodbye Mave-riech

I have been a member of DP for a long time, and I probably only have a handful of post so I don’t post unless I have a strong opinion about something. John McCain once was a good republican, I wish he would have gotten the GOP nom back in 2000. But, since then I have become much more aware of the powers that be and realize that even if McCain had the nom back in 2000 and won, we would still be where we are today, because McCain has become part of the problem.

The only reason McCain is apologizing, is due to that fact that Ron Paul and his movement have completely changed the GOP from where they were in 2008 and the old guard is about 10 years behind the times. McCain now can see that the winds have changed and if he wants to save what little legacy he has as a “Maverick” he has to backpedal.

Watch the video again, McCain actually has to cough before even saying Cruz’s name, that’s a subconscious “swallow your pride” hiccup, he doesn't believe in jack what he’s saying. Neal did a great job of putting McCain in his place and even though Neal was pretty anti Ron Paul back in 2008, he is totally on our side now.

McCain is dead politically, now to cut out the cancer that is Lindsey Gram

Post more.... you sum it up

Post more.... you sum it up perfectly

His mouth is moving again

and the lies are just a-tumblin out.

Be brave, be brave, the Myan pilot needs no aeroplane.

"I respect what they stand for and what they believe in."

No, he doesn't. He believes he can steer the debate with ridicule rather than honesty, logic, and reason.

It's nice to see what he 'stands for and believes in' failing. It tells me people deserve better than the tactic of ridicule.

McCain's apology demonstrates that...

all the fatalistic nay sayers (anarchists) at DP are wrong when they say restoring limited Constitutional government is hopeless. If not for millions of individual citizens standing up for their rights, Rand's filibuster would've received little attention and McCain would still be calling him a wacko. The Creator has endowed individuals with unalienable rights and the power to be a force for good in the world. So personal victory is achieved by never giving up the fight for what you believe is right, even if the situation appears hopeless.

I'm FAR from an anarchist

and I see his "apology" as total BS. He's backtracking because he didn't expect so many people to disagree with him. Most people can see right through this... even my neocon, evangelical right, in-laws.

"He's backtracking because he didn't expect so many people to disagree with him."

I think that's Mark Hanson's point. McCain wouldn't have apologized in the past because few would have known what he's talking about, much less disagree with him. The fact that he felt he should apologize, regardless of the reason or sincerity, shows that this movement has grown to be a force that McCain and the neocons can't just ridicule or ignore any more.

Then I apologize

And I AM sincere. :)

Edited to add: we won't really know if this accomplishes anything to reverse the course this nation has been on and stop or slow the establishment for several years. Until then I choose to be cautiously optimistic and continue the fight to change the system. I refuse to believe that it's hopeless... at least not yet.

He says whatever he (or his handlers) think will make him look good or more palatable. He has no convictions rooted in liberty. Why GOP faithful follow these transparent clowns is beyond me.

The fact that he sees he need

The fact that he sees he need to take back a comment that he clearly believes in show that we are gaining influence! On rolls the R[3VOJ]UTIUON!

This is just a coverup

This is all just a political stunt to save his ass!! McCain is just trying to act nicer now to us so he can keep his job. If he started to go down the path he was going more people would be angry at him. Everyone should realize what he is doing. Just covering up what he really means and that you and I are really wacho birds

I LOVE the Internet

DC is a cesspool of drugs, money, power, sex. It really shouldn't be too difficult to expose the pettiness of DC politicians using YouTube, etc.

DiFi sat there on her elevated platform and exposed herself as what she objected to. It ought to become obvious to Californians that she's trading on a spotlight that happened before many of us were born, and is entirely responsible for where we are now: broke.

McCain is no better, but his apology shows more wisdom (if only we could be sure it didn't come from a political consultant; he's never struck me as particularly wise or even intelligent).

P.S. Upon rewatching I see she's not actually on an elevated platform, she just behaves like she is. Cruz, of course, is relegated to a corner chair.

What do you think? http://consequeries.com/

What A Shock!

Clearly, after the relentless lambasting he received from all of us who support Rand, he back peddled and gave a half-assed apology to save face. What a Douche.

He's done, that crusty old windbag needs to take a hike.

McCain sold out a long, long time ago. It is he, and men and women like him.... "the establishment" that have run this nation into the ground and caused endless havoc worldwide.

His words are empty, he is at this point just a suit stuffed full of lies and deceit, acting to the public to keep the inner circle of corruption afloat.

Notice the fox "news" scripted lead in giving the old windbag homage? Purposefully pandering to that withered and crusty mouthpiece of the elite; in stark contrast to the verbage used when introducing any representatives of Liberty, Freedom, or Truth to the public. Oh the corporate owned media and their band of outdated, misfit politicians! I axiously await their complete downfall.

DuaneK36 - that is a wasted post.

It should be a thread of its own!

Did anyone notice Rand Paul

Did anyone notice Rand Paul wore a pink tie the day after his filibuster in honor of Code Pink standing with Senator Rand Paul?

McCain represents the (false) conservative big money lobbyists

There is nothing real about John McCain.

Just like Lindsey Graham, McCain is owned and controlled by the worst of the worst global warmongers and whoremongers.

Oh Heck

Was this the same apology that he gave for Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Iran? Or when he slammed the Tea Party?

It's time! Rand Paul 2016!

"Truth, Justice, and the American Way!"

I was just thinking someone should put together a montage of his apologies.

McCain is being completely truthful...

He admits that he respects... what he does not stand for!

*sniff* *sniff* I smell bullshit

He is only sorry because he got caught looking like an idiot. If the media wasn't making such a big deal about it, he wouldn't be sorry. McCain is garbage.

Nailed it.

Nailed it.

Sen. McCain, so pleased that

Sen. McCain, so pleased that you apologized to Rand and company. I agree that your comment was inappropriate, and I'm so pleased that you've changed your mind and now "respect" those "whacko birds."

As I'm sure you know from your lifetime of experience, such moments when you understand a different perspective -- often marked by the shame that leads to apology -- are rarified and precious. I encourage you follow that shame-to-apology and explore.

Your captive Vietnam experiences certainly showed that you have honor and courage; I would encourage you to refuse the moniker of "clueless old man" Cavuto accused you with. I would encourage you to take this opportunity to re-think, reclaim. There is far less shame in changing some misguided ideas than in hold fast to all.

Please rethink. Please stop Eeyore-ing the Sequestration. I'm sure you know that it is no real cut, only a decrease in planned increases. There's absolutely every reason to use the shame you felt in apologizing to Rand to re-examine and bring your considerable experience to bear for a legacy that could be anything but clueless old man.
