Are You Proud To Be An American?

Thank God I'm an American blessed to live in this great country with a Constitution designed to protect my God given Rights. People often complain about their country here but I stand by the best country in the world, my country, America.

Some outsiders have tried to label Libertarians as people who hate their country but that couldn't be farther from the truth in my case. I love this country; Who else loves their country?

Are you proud to be an American?

EDIT: I found good insight in this quote,

"The patriot says, 'I love my country,' works for its good, and defends it if necessary – against enemies within and without. He strives and prays not primarily that God will bless his country, but that his country will bless God. The nationalist, meanwhile, says, 'My country is better than yours.' 'My country is the greatest there has ever been.' 'The greatest nation on God’s green earth.' 'They hate my country because it is so good.' -- Historian John J. Dwyer"

Just Finished Watching Superman I

At the end of the movie Superman delivers Lex Luther an his henchman to a prison yard for safekeeping "until they get a fair trial". He does this after Luther launched two nuclear missiles at targets in the USA.
How times have changed.
If Superman were real and showed up on earth today, based on his moral code depicted in the movies I can't see how he would be doing anything other than opposing almost everything America has come to represent in the world.

Fantastic find!

Thanks... I'll be using this!

"Citizenship"

is like the brand on a cow's rump, telling the world which rancher has the right to work, confine, milk and slaughter the beast, at his pleasure.

"Government" -- is what the ranchers of humans call their gang. A "country" is what they call their ranch.

Being "proud to be an American" means you are a contented cow.

I don't agree

It's what you are doing to make American great that makes America great. Despite whatever flaws America owns, she is by far not alone in the flaw department... by comparison globally.. and what bothers most Americans about our government.. no matter what they say, voting is not enough.. there really needs to be more people who are not ranchers of humans to replace the ranchers of himans, so we can establish a government of, by and for humans, not cows for corporate slaughter.

I'm a cow who votes

Now while you may contend that my vote is worthless I think it's time to tell all the cows about how a large enough stampede will liberate the ranch ya dig?

I may be a happy cow, but you're just an angry bird (or was it wacko bird???) I mean cow.

Nobody's ever escaped the penitentiary after pissing off the warden. Life looks better inside the ranch to me anyways. Mexico has drugs and guns and Canada is cold. I'll just try to restore the Constitution of the ranch and see what happens.

Still though, are you proud of your ranch? We do have the best ranch you know?

I Am Proud...

...of the Constitutional Republic birthed by our founders. I am proud to be an Individual, proud of the idea and ideal that these united States once were.

I am not proud of the perversion that is our government. A government that has drastically strayed from their delegated limited powers, duties and authorities. A government that is a predatory, tyrannical, burgeoning totalitarian globalist-collectivist enemy of the Constitution that is meant to structure and limit it and of the individualism and individual natural rights that were enumerated and meant to be secured by them.

I am proud to be a man of individualist and liberty principle and ethic, because 'if' all else fails and God willing, I will be amongst those who will, with grim-resolve, do what is right and necessary to assist in restoring the Republic.

Yeah, I am proud, proud of what we were meant to be and what we will be, once again.

I am not proud to be an American

We are the evil f%@$ing empire now...like, when did that happen? Awhile ago.

I love the hardworking people, my friends and family and I love the idea of America but we have strayed so far from what made America great It is unrecognizable to me now.

We starve innocent men, women and children through sanctions if their oppressive puppet dictator stops playing ball with the petrodollar..So much killing and suffering simply so they have to sell their oil for paper that our central bank creates out of thin air. If that isn't twisted i don't know what is...

Then to add insult to injury, they have an ENORMOUS propaganda apparatus that confuses people day in and day out as to why we are actually IN the middle east, and whats more is SOOO many people believe it. They believe it's the evil brown person with a bomb strapped to his chest, out to get their children....sad

I love my country

I could think of the USA as a sinking ship and just grab my household and leave. I love my family.

But they have family and friends. I love the strangers, too.

I love the country, and we have to turn this ship around. I am proud to consider you Americans to be my family!

Glad to see another Patriot. We all know there are reasons to be ashamed of America but one by one I see reasons to be proud to be an American. Thanks for sharing.

Six years ago

I probably would have agreed with you but after much research I learned a lot of stuff that was never taught in school and so the way I would answer your question today is I Love the Idea of the US and what it stood for, I love the PR and the concept, but the reality is different.

There is an old saying about "Pride comes before the Fall" so I am hesitant to use that word.

I don't think this country or corporation is any worse than any others around the globe because the same banksters run them all.

You know what I really like about this place? I really like the variety of people who reside here, the mix of cultures and colors. I think the US is the most interesting and intriguing place on earth, because of the people.

The landscape is immense and terrain breath taking.

My humble opinion is we are capable of much good and much mischief.

Unfortunately, those BEHIND the scenes have an AGENDA and it has been in place possibly from the founding of the country. So, when we hear that this country is generous we don't know what really is going down. It is very time consuming to get to the truth and it is very painful at times to admit.

I do love this place because I call it home. I do not condone the evil that has been done and is currently happening. I promise to pay attention and get as many facts as possible before having an opinion on issues and events that happen, (this is NOT easy).

So, it brings me back to the beginning and the promise of what this experiment called the United States was founded. I love the idea, I hope that I can help be a positive influence moving forward.

"We can see with our eyes, hear with our ears and feel with our touch, but we understand with our hearts."

I love the America I was taught in school - but that was a lie

I was taught about how America brought freedom to the world.
Then I learned it was all a lie. We brought death and made profits.
And I was ashamed

I was taught we had the greatest justice system in the world.
Then I learned how prisons are merely corporate profit centers. And I researched and learned how many people are railroaded by the system and how many on death row were wrongly convicted.
And I was ashamed

I was taught we righted the wrongs of slavery and Lincoln was a great man who did great things.
Then I learned it was all a lie. It had nothing to do with slavery and it cost this country much more than the 600,000 lives and how blacks went from slave to free - back to slavery in the prison system
And I was ashamed

I was taught serving in the military was the highest honor one could pay to our country.
Then I learned about the atrocities they commit. I learned of Abu Ghrab, of water boarding, of indefinite detention. If snipers being glorified for killing women.
And I was ashamed

I was taught Christianity was the light and the rest of the world was living in sin
And I learned of massive, widespread molestation, and I saw "good men" do nothing and bow to a false god.
And I was ashamed

I was taught about how great manifest destiny was and how great this country was(the physical country in this case)
Then somebody on here(I believe it was smudge pot) went ahead and posted something about Native American's and the Wounded Knee - and I started learned the truth about the mistreatment and abuses against the Native Americans.
And I was ashamed

I could go on and on, but it was through my research of the last on this list that I really started to change my mind about what an American was and what it meant to be American.
These were great people with wisdom and knowledge well beyond anything the Europeans brought with them(save the weapons of war and death) - and for all our talk of liberty and freedom - we chose not to see that those who were already here knew far more about those things than we ever could. They knew more about god and lived more in his ways than any christian.

I am proud to be American, but in a sense of what America can be - not what it is. We have lost our way(if ever we had it) and we need to get back.

We need to live up to our own hype for once.

We need to get it back

On that note I can firmly say I am proud of Ron Paul and all the activists inspired by him. I'm proud of this movement, and I'm proud that my question brought a comment like that. That's a gem of a comment, +1+1

I'm only a fresh Frenchman immigrant, but I DO believe you HAVE had it, for short, sparse periods of time.

YOU CAN be proud of that. ALREADY. YOU CAN feel righteous to get it back.

I know the history of MY country. I know a tiny bit of others'. I know a bit about the history of THIS young country.

Furthermore, I have watched you, at least for 20 years. I have seen the destruction ongoing - I know its type ALL TOO WELL. DAMN IT.

Thus, I KNOW WHERE to put the blame. And ON WHOM. And it's certainly NOT on your foundations that I believe UNIQUE in the entire Human History.

IT IS WORTH IT, IMO, to stand for what it CAN BE anew.

Just an observation.

The "America" (US) is "exceptional" concept is a foundation of the neocon mindset that we have a right, no a DUTY, to spread our "goodness" across the globe, by whatever means necessary.

Citizens of the US need a serious humility check.

"The State is a gang of thieves writ large." - Murray Rothbard

Some confuse Government and Country markets.

The Government pretends it's founded on the Constitution. But the Republic was disbanded and a Federal Union established.

State's found out that they were not sovereign. The Seventeenth amendment finished the paperwork according to some.

So we have a government that keeps the nostalgic trappings of the Constitution in the names of things, but not in matters of law. The supreme law of the land? not in Washington Disease.

That's a good point

I'll never believe that half a million fine young men killed one another over slavery. I think that's what you're alluding to in the second paragraph.

It's first words are We the People. We ought to restore the supreme law of the land in our own lands. They can keep their disease in DC

Northern States were deep in debt. They went South and tore up Southern Railroads. Then built new railroads and hauled the loot home.

I beg to be more forgiving.

To me, it's not about the infamies enabled by the 14th Amendment and on...

It's about the foundations of the American idea that had been built before that one.

Put yourself in Truman's shoes

I'm not advocating nuclear war but it's hard to imagine having to make that decision. Who knows how many lives were spared by ending the war? Probably not as many as were lost by the bombs, but I suppose it's possible WWII could have lasted many many more years. Who really knows?

I understand being upset with some of the wrong things our country has done, but do you have anything good to say about America?
