Are You Proud To Be An American?

Thank God I'm an American blessed to live in this great country with a Constitution designed to protect my God given Rights. People often complain about their country here but I stand by the best country in the world, my country, America.

Some outsiders have tried to label Libertarians as people who hate their country but that couldn't be farther from the truth in my case. I love this country; Who else loves their country?

Are you proud to be an American?

EDIT: I found good insight in this quote,

"The patriot says, 'I love my country,' works for its good, and defends it if necessary – against enemies within and without. He strives and prays not primarily that God will bless his country, but that his country will bless God. The nationalist, meanwhile, says, 'My country is better than yours.' 'My country is the greatest there has ever been.' 'The greatest nation on God’s green earth.' 'They hate my country because it is so good.' -- Historian John J. Dwyer"

Duder, get over yourself.

"There's North America, Central America and South Ametica. All persons living on any of these land masses are just as right to refer to themselves as Americans as is your sorry ass."

The United States Of America

Do North Americans, Central Americans and South Americans now all want to be called Americans or Canadians, Mexicans, and Guatemalans? I suggest you don't try.

Am I now not allowed to call myself an American? What about African-Americans, Italian-Americans, German-Americans? Are they now supposed to call themselves Africans, Italians, and Germans?

Get over yourself "dude".

You know EXACTLY what it means to say "American", but that won't stop you from running your foul Virginian mouth will it?

There's an entire world out

There's an entire world out there, friend, full of wonderful people of all nationalities.

You and I are no more "exceptional" for having been born in the US than any other human on this planet.

I must be willing to give up what I am in order to become what I will be. Albert Einstein

Who said there wasn't an entire world out there?

I said: "get over yourself!"

Who said I'm more "exceptional" for having been born in the US?

What I hear is a foul Virginian running his mouth and trying to turn the word "American" into something meaningless. (and doing a very "unexceptional" job of it)

See what I mean?

I say the DP is infested with foreigners posting and masquerading as Americans.

If I tell you what state I

If I tell you what state I live in you'll just say I'm a foreigner posing as a resident of that state. So again, what's your point?

How could I do that?

That wouldn't make any sense. I'd have no evidence to back it up. Spitting out senseless words isn't my forte. (for that, I suggest an Anarchist)

That would betray everything I support; truth, logic, and reason. I'm getting the sense that you're used to that kind of thing over in Massachusetts; betraying truth, logic, and reason?

What a pile of garbage

How can anyone be proud of a Nation that engages in mass-murder all over the planet, non-stop, 24/7-?
How can anyone be proud of a Nation that does this, based on demonstrable lies and corruption?
How can anyone be proud of a Nation that systematically Tortures human beings?
How can anyone be proud of a Nation that is 16 Trillion in Debt, and has a money system based upon the creation of Debt?
How can anyone be proud of a Nation that has obsoleted "The Bill of Rights"?
How can anyone be proud of a Nation that has such a low ranking in Health Care?
How can anyone be proud of a Nation that has a low rank in Freedom of the Press? (yes it's true, look it up...)
How can anyone be proud of a Nation that has 1 out of 4 children living in a state of poverty?
How can anyone be proud of a Nation that assassinates people?
How can anyone be proud of a Nation that has a low percentage of people with higher education, and has low math, reading, and science scores?
How can anyone be proud of a Nation that votes for criminals and liars each and every cycle as President of the United States?
How can anyone be proud of a Nation that routinely accuses Foreign Nations of War Crimes and of Weapon Systems that itself is responsible for?

America is "best" in just what exactly?
Fair Elections? No
Independent Media? No
Income Equality? No
Economy? No
Manufacturing Base? No
Crime rates? No
Equal Justice? No
___

There are three, and only three things that America is "best" in:

1. Weapons of Mass Destruction
2. Legalized Financial Corruption
3. Debt

Sorry, I'm not proud of that!

I agree 100%.

You forgot one though.
The United States is number one in the amount of prisoners.
We have 5% of the worlds population and 25% of the worlds prisoners.YAY USA!!!

We have the best Constitution, the best history, and the best people in the world. Would you rather live somewhere else?

If you don't love it, leave it. I'm saddened that you can only come up with two good things to say about your country. You're right that we have problems, but surely you can come up with something good to say about your country.

The individual who refuses to defend his rights when called by his Government, deserves to be a slave, and must be punished as an enemy of his country and friend to her foe. - Andrew Jackson

Wrong

We don't have the best Constitution.

We had the best Constitution (its a totally obsolete document now, just sitting in a museum...completely overridden and replaced by actions from Congress, The Supreme Court, and The Executive Branch, and the criminal CIA, and the criminal FBI, and the War Establishment).

And to believe that we are somehow superior to other human beings (just because of where we were born) is akin to racism.

America is a totally Lawless Nation condemned to War, Brutality, Corruption, Bankruptcy, a visibly declining standard of living, unaffordable Health Care, unaffordable Education, and rising poverty.

It is a Totalitarian, Orwellian Nightmere.

And this Country produces nothing but violence.

Love it or leave it is such

Love it or leave it is such bullshit.

I was born here. My family is here, so I'll stay and try to change it, but not because I owe any allegiance to anyone who happened to have been born on the same landmass.

My ancestors came here for freedom. Members of my family fought for freedom, and I will fight for freedom, but I owe no allegiance to this government under which we live which is now controlled by thugs.

The founders of this country were enlightened, though seriously flawed oligarchs. I believe that some of them did the best they could, with good intentions. But reality is that we still live in a very seriously flawed society and just because there are worse paces to live that's no reason to thump our chests and imagine that we're exceptional.

We're not exceptional. We're just human, just like every other homosapien on the planet.

I must be willing to give up what I am in order to become what I will be. Albert Einstein

I think your quote here sums it up the best

"We're not exceptional. We're just human, just like every other homosapien on the planet."

We are all just people, no more, no less.

There is nowhere better to live

This is still the best country in the world. The saying "love it or leave it" is a nice way of saying "quit whining". Yes, we have problems but we played golf on the moon. America has the best medicine, most achievement, creates the most wealth, receives the most immigrants, creates the most entertainment, and has the most freedom out of any other country in the world.

That is exceptional. Are you proud to live in that country instead of one that would arrest you for making that comment?

I recently spent two weeks in

I recently spent two weeks in Italy. I was hassled less by the Italan authorities coming and going than the US authorities. I was able to converse with the Italian people, almost all of which knew English, while what, maybe one in five hundred US citizen know Italian?

Their food and drink and music and culture and transportation systems were marvelous.

Of course, we have our benefits here too.

But, just because we live here doesn't make us exceptiional.

No.7's picture

You're right, just living here it doesn't make us exceptional

My main mission was to see if anyone in this movement actually liked their country. I know all of us are upset with it, but I think the America bashing isn't going to help us win many people to liberty.

Regardless of whether you disagree, thanks for sharing your opinion.

"There is nowhere better to live"

According to you. There is nowhere you would rather live and that is fine. But according to other people there are much better places to live. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, no?

America is the best according to all those who haven't left

If an American who has nothing but bad things to say about America thinks that another country is a better place to live I wouldn't be opposed at all to them heading on to that better country.

You're right though, that is just my opinion but I'm willing to bet that if the world voted it would pick America as the best place to live.

If the world voted on it...

I would love to see the results of that vote, but I am still not certain it would be America. Maybe it would though, neither of us can really say for sure. I have good and bad things to say about America, I do not hate it (or I would leave), and I do not think it is exceptional.

Best History?

Best history?

How'd that whole slavery thing work out in America's history? Let's ask a Native American (if you can find one) to tell us about America's proud history? How about America's recent history or wars, corporatism, prison enslavement, destruction of the environment for materialistic reasons, and torture?

Some history there.

And as far as best people? The majority of the people are statists that voted for the last two assholes in office. The majority of Americans vote for people who support the mass murder of foreigners, enslavement of peaceful people here at home, and complete world-wide financial corruption.

Look around. The country is full of fat, lazy, obedient subjects that worship the state. The individualists are the minority.

We are the minority.

No.7's picture

With that attitude, we are the minority

Yes, despite all the bad America has the greatest history of any other present day country in the world. Where else would you rather live?

You could have all those things, but then you be put in prison for posting it online. It could be much worse.

Your view of a typical American is very negative. I think most Americans know what's up but think there is nothing they can do about it or are apathetic to politics.

Either way, I've found a patriotic spirit works well when trying to sell liberty. Showing patriotism, putting the Constitution on a pedestal, and teaching people their Rights is a great way to show the "fat, lazy, obedient, subjects that worship the state" what liberty looks like.

More and more everyday.

I had my doubts. For awhile I thought those OWS camps would lead people to their own destruction, but Americans are smart and using the tools they've been left with.

We have everything we need to win. TPTB only have a few weapons, and once overcome, it's just a matter of time. THEY NEED chaos and mobs, but Americans are standing their ground and staring right back them. All a destroyer can do is spread hate, fear, and division. They thrive on chaos and misery, but so far, there aren't enough takers.

Tick tock. Tick tock.

Sometimes I think Obama is going to step up to the podium and declare himself 'God and ruler of the world' just to create chaos.

They're getting DESPERATE NOW. Like I said, Americans are smart, and he'd being doing it just so those who hate our country can justify destroying "it" rather than serving justice on those who wanted to use and destroy us in the first place.

Great comment, thanks for sharing

Many people think all Americans are hopeless sheep that will never learn anything but I have faith in Americans.

I think more people are apathetic than ignorant, but they can't say apathetic for too much longer before they are affected.

I'm glad to see another proud American Patriot and I thank you for sharing that.

Grateful Yes, Proud No.

Being born here was not my accomplishment, therefore I can take no more pride in that fact than I could in my eye color or hair texture.

On the other hand, it appears (though not so much any more), that Americans are still the luckiest people on Earth. As the Union seems to be the next best thing to a free country, I guess I'll stick around and see if we can reclaim it.
