36 Hours to Hell - Horse Slaughter - Animal Cruelty

Warning: some of the video is graphic.

I found the video heartbreaking. But it is one among many horrors against people and animals taking place in the world today.

My own opinion is that as long as we remain desensitized to the pain of animals, we will continue to slaughter and abuse each other. Take a look at the slaughter of people in the Middle East and Africa. Consider the proposed drone attacks on Americans.

It is all part of a growing lack of empathy and compassion in the world. Our governments set the example of human slaughter in war, the media, movies, video games desensitize the people, and the horror gets worse by the day.

Utter shame

I eat meat, although I don't eat horse, by personal principle. Just like I wouldn't eat dog or cat.

I'm not going to watch this. That'll make me too angry.

Now, in our 21st century, DAMN IT, when we see how much man is being ENGINEERED TO BECOME desensitized about man...

WHAT do we expect about the treatment of animals, of whatever companion species of ours?

Expect even worse to denounce as long as we keep losing our own humanity.

"Cyril" pronounced "see real". I code stuff.

Give it Up

People on DP don't care about horses. I have posted threads about the abuse of horses and the feedback I got was about how good horses tasted as well as cats, dogs, parrots, and anything else that breathed Oh, they didn't fail to mention that HUMANS were not on the menu like that made it all better. I lost a great deal of respect for people on DP thanks to that. How can people claim to be so enlightened and yet be so closed hearted? I don't know or care anymore. I guess it comes from being closed off from nature. Of course if you are an animal lover they make out like you are some radical PETA nut (which btw shows that they are as brainwashed about PETA as the mindless masses are about Ron Paul) so like I said, give it up on DP when it comes to animals. No one here has the sense to care!

I read some of those comments on your post .

Notable lack of love, empathy, compassion. We are not born this way. I have seen children cry when they first see an animal like Bambi killed in a cartoon. Then they gradually are brainwashed by movies, the media, video games, and desensitized to the kind of brutality in this video.

But there are many positive compassionate comments about the abuse of horses on this page. I choose to focus on the people who care and can still love, and feel hope for the world.

The brutal handlers and people who have lost their ability to feel compassion and empathy have been controlled and brainwashed to OBEY without thinking.

Thanks For Taking The Trouble

Those posts blew me away. I never fail to be amazed at how people that I think are of like mind to me end up being just more of the same old same old. It is nice to know that there are SOME people here with a heart. I used to foster wild horses and I know that they are very intelligent, loving, humorous beautiful creatures that deserve better than to be slaughtered and minced like compost piles for the consumption of stupid, mindless masses of uncaring creatures like humans. Sorry if I have a low opinion of people but I came by it honestly. Thanks again though. But like I said, give it up here on DP. There is no concern from these "enlightened" people.

Pschopathic governments

produce psychopathic people. Everything seems geared to teaching children to laugh at pain and brutality, even in cartoons and video games. It is all a joke, funny, when a person or an animal gets hurt.

Children are being taught to desensitize their own natural empathy and compassion. They grow up to be the psychopathic adult who cannot feel the pain of others.

There are still good people left in the world. The psychopaths are a minority.

I also love animals and do not eat any kind of flesh because of compassion and respect for these beautiful creatures. I do not see any animal as food.

Screw PETA. Do you have any

Screw PETA. Do you have any clue what they area about. They are as bad or worse than the MSM at reporting the "truth". I don't have the time, but if you are to lazy to look up the TRUTH about PETA and the US Humane Society, then I will post you some links tonight.

You are a fucking dickhead.

No matter what the motives of PETA are, video doesn't lie. Let me guess, you are a "christian", right?

Probably think...

Joel Olsteen or John Hagee are full of truth.

Uh but the objective of my post was to show abuse of horses.

I do not support PETA.

Why have you jumped to the conclusion that this post is about PETA?

It is about horses being abused and I use the video because it shows the abuse clearly.

You don't owe anybody an explanation.

If a person is too big of an evil piece of shit to think what is happening in that video is ok, they are everything that is wrong in this world. Never, ever defend yourself against scumbags like that. Thank you for the post.

Thank you.

for your comment.

No need for the attitude...

...but if you are too LAZY to actually read the OP, which didn't mention PETA at all, I'll post some links to some online reading comprehension courses tonight.

NOTE: I am not advocating violence in any way. The content of the post is for intellectual, theoretical, and philosophical discussion. FEDS, please don't come to my house.

Thank you

for your kind and wise words.

I do not support nor am I in favor of PETA.

I am against anyone who is hypocritical or does hypocritical things.

However, the pictures of the abuse to the horses cannot be faked. And that is what I have tried to convey.

36 hours to Canada, or 8 hours to Oklahoma

Sounds like the bill to reopen the slaughter house in OK would help alleviate some of the horrible conditions these horses suffer in transport. Once again, unintended consequences of legislation actually creates additional suffering for these animals. Remove the ban on horse slaughterhouses, and maybe there would be facilities close to the auction sites.

I am against cruelty to animals. I believe that slaughtering animals for food can, and should be done humanely. I try to avoid commercially raised and processed meats because the condition of the animals affects the quality of the meat. But, if market forces do not change how the majority of meat is processed, I am still not in favor of legislation trying to do so.

It's a bureaucratic mess.

After watching the video, I was curious if there weren't already laws against such abuses. What I found was all these different laws pertaining to different animals and in different situations (apparently leaving a lot of loopholes). Plus, in this case, two countries are involved. So for instance, re the 36-hour trip, while the U.S. has laws about the maximum length of time you can transport horses (28 hours) without unloading them for rest, water, and food (for 5 hours), that law wouldn't have been broken *while* the trucks/horses were still within the U.S. Now as to re-opening slaughterhouses, I had the same thought. A problem there is that we don't allow slaughter of horses for human consumption. One issue is that animals raised for food have certain laws re diet/drugs and are inspected throughout that process - from farm to slaughterhouse to ensure standards are met (at least in theory!); whereas, the horses headed for slaughter (in the clip) were workhorses or racehorses, in any event, not raised for food consumption. So... it's not as if they could be slaughtered here *with* their current intended purpose. Still, there's got to be an answer. What's happening now is unconscionable.

See if you feel like drinking milk again after watching this.

Milk has been part of my meatless diet. I keep getting flashbacks of the cow that was so sick and he kicked and electroshocked her until she struggled to her feet, died two days later. I think I am done with milk and cheese.

Animal abuse is never

Animal abuse is never acceptable. Reminds me of a couple of quotes "He who is cruel to animals becomes hard also in his dealings with men. We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals" -Kant

"Whoever is righteous has regard for the life of his beast, but the mercy of the wicked is cruel."

You need to watch this to get a proper perspective on using animals for food. It really shows that it's always heartbreaking

I can't watch it!

This stuff kills me. Thanks for posting for awareness though. I agree, animal cruelty is disgusting and wrong. I don't eat meat. I love animals.

Animals have more intelligence and love

than we give them credit for. I would only kill in defense of myself or family, and that includes animal or human.

A question.

I am wondering what your view on abortion is. It has been my experience that many animal rights activists are pro abortion also. Just wondering.

They are two separate arguments,

with more than nuanced differences to be considered - with 80% of your fellow Americans wanting abortion to remain legal in all (28%) or at least some (52%) circumstances. But looking at just the cruelty issue, i.e., the subject of this post and what I'm therefore assuming your question alludes to, can something be called a sentient being before a brain and nervous system are formed, necessary for sense impressions and the ability to even perceive pain? No one would question that horses treated in the manner depicted sense cold, hunger, pain, and fear. I think it's our responsibility to be responsible caretakers of both wildlife and domesticated animals. I appreciate the post for bringing the situation to our attention.

I am against abortion.

But please let us allow a small amount of leeway in the case of rape and if the birth endangers the life of the mother. And only within the first few weeks of conception. It must not be used as a method of birth control!

Death is never easy.

Humane treatment should be given to all animals as we are able. However, the animal kingdom is based on the concept that some organisms do die to give life to others. Why horses should be given different treatment than chickens and cows I am not sure.

Why should a horse that has humanly prized genetics be treated better than his common pen mates?

The laws against horse slaughter in the US created this "need" to ship these horses so far under cruel circumstances. If we want to butcher in a more humane way, let us do it ourselves.

PETA is no friend of people or animals. It 's a sham that uses our emotions for their own agenda.

Agree PETA goes to extremes and seems hypocritical at times.

It is not a group I support. But the video shows pictures of horse abuse and that was my objective, to bring the suffering to public awareness.

I do not eat flesh. In fact I do not believe humans are meant to eat flesh; wrong kind of teeth etc. I am in perfect health, perfect hemoglobin, and very strong.

What is our "Natural" Diet? Scroll down to the table.

As far as any horse or rabbit or chicken or human being more important than another, I agree with you. I see them all as beautiful and worthy of respect.

I voted you up...

for awareness.

But chose not to watch the video.

I know you'll understand.

Thanks. It was hard to watch.

I did not want it in my head either. But then I thought ignoring this and other issues like wars will not make them disappear. So there it is presented. This did not make my day.
