Marine Draws Gun, Stops Brutal Crime

I was surprised this showed up at The Huffington Post:

"A Marine Corps veteran with a concealed carry permit stopped a suspect in a brutal beating in West Allis, Wis., on Tuesday morning when he drew his gun and called the police.

"Charlie Blackmore, Jr. told Wisconsin Fox affiliate WITI that he saw a man kicking a woman in the head and belly at the side of the road as he was driving to work early the morning of March 12. He pulled his car over and told the suspect to stop, but the man came towards him."

Permit? I don't need no stinking PERMIT!

I have a right!

Blackmore kept his cool. When police arrived, they forced the suspect to the ground and asked for Blackmore's concealed carry permit.

He should have had a constitution in his pocket, not a concealed carry permit. CCW's FUND TYRANNY!

While technically true

We get a lot more positive publicity because he followed the legal system. They are already trying to associate him with "Notorious Vigilantes" on Huffington Post. If he didn't have a permit, the story would be written to make him look like a monster.

Many thanks to Charlie. Love

Many thanks to Charlie. Love the t-shirt and a great measured, honest tone on the radio interview.

We are our brother's keepers in many ways, and having a gun allows more folks like Charlie to act on their heroic natures while decreasing risks to themselves.

I hope his story gets lots of play. I certainly feel safer when I know there are folks around me carrying.

I asked on another thread,

I asked on another thread, but is anyone collecting a list of these stories of guns saving people?

good idea I actually have a folder in my email on this

I'll post a few of them

we posted at the exact same time :)

Very interesting

The two posts complement each other quite nicely. Not surprised the other media outlets didn't use the same photo unfortunately...

I am a Wisconsite and I will help out as much as I can. We have to take care of our own cheeseheads ya know. Really pisses me off that some scumbag would do that to a woman.

Lots of news to share:

It appears Marine veteran Charlie Blackmore has set up a fund to help the victim, Kathy. Disclaimer: Do your own research, all I know about this is what I've found on the net.

"Please Help Kathy Heal !

On 3/12/13 Tuesday morning after getting off of work I intervened in a brutal beating of a woman on her way to her factory job. She was incapacitated and unable to defend against her attacker. I stopped the beating and the man was arrested and is being charged with a felony battery charge. The victim's name is Kathy and her battle isn't over yet. She has a shattered left orbital bone in her face and could possibly need reconstructive surgery to fix this. She will no doubt be stuck with the medical expenses unless you can help. Please help Kathy heal inside and out with your support we can do this. I am Charlie Blackmore Jr. a Marine Corps Disabled Veteran and I ask you to be one of the few and the proud. Thank you !

Anything you can donate will help

I am trying to raise at least $35,000 not only to help with the medical expenses but to send her on a vacation with her children to help forget about this horrible morning. Every cent raised will go to Kathy and her children. If we reach the goal I will try to have their time documented on video and shared on YouTube for you all to view what happiness you helped accomplish.

Kathy also takes the bus to work every morning even during the brutal Wisconsin winters. I know it's a stretch but to get her very own vehicle for transportation would just be the cherry on top. Please help in any way you can and if you want to contact me personally I have set up a separate email for anything concerning this incident. Thank you once again for your time. Contact me at ccw.blackmore@yahoo.com for any questions.

This is a real event and here is the proof"

Call a spade a spade, and quit with the what IF stories these are the facts...period. IF anyone was around or to stop my constant verbal commands would have informed them as to the situation. Someone holding another at gunpoint that wishes to do harm would NOT be telling them to stop and get down on the ground ! Use your heads and quit bickering. We have more important issues at hand like our rights at stake. Don't fall for the two party division that has tricked many of you "wise people" for so many years. I am simply a man that saved a woman from possibly getting killed by another man and for most of you that's all you need to know. As for the supporters which are by far the greater majority I thank you and ask that you donate to the victim at indiegogo.com. " Help Kathy Heal ! " is the campaign and all the information is on the site coordinator is myself and all proceeds go to Kathy and her children.

This is really cool

This is how we get past the idea that we need the government to take care of us.

Usually it's...

"Marine draws gun, commits brutal crime".

Just ask Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

Stopping a crime is a welcome change.

...I wonder how he would behave if he saw a cop in uniform doing the exact same thing to a woman. Do his "principles" go out the window?

Obviously hard to say

He made the right choice for the circumstances. I just look at it as a valuable example of an armed citizen making a positive difference in a bad situation. Out of curiosity, are you posing that question because of his service in the Marines?

It Is Hard To Say

He obviously did the right thing in this instance. I raise the question because we need more people out there with principles strong enough to guide them through "foggier" situations. I'm a Marine too BTW.

Given that he was wearing a "Veterans for Ron Paul" t-shirt in one interview, I think odds are better than average for him to make good decisions (obviously not guaranteed just because of a t-shirt).

The only reason I asked if him being a marine made a difference is that I have seen times where all military members are categorized negatively, and I don't think that is fair.

Obviously hard to say

edit: double post, site glitched.
