Rand Paul Just Made Another Political Masterstroke

First he goes Left (drones filibuster) and now he's going Right (abortion).

How's this for a one-two punch?

Rand Paul Introduces Life at Conception Act in U.S. Senate

WASHINGTON, D.C., March 19, 2013 (LifeSiteNews) – Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) introduced the “Life at Conception Act” on Thursday afternoon, then took to Twitter to tell the world, “the right to life is guaranteed to all Americans.”

“The Life at Conception Act legislatively declares what most Americans believe and what science has long known — that human life begins at the moment of conception, and therefore is entitled to legal protection,” Sen. Paul said in a statement.

Sanctity of Life

I am 100% pro life. I believe abortion is taking the life of an innocent human being.

I believe life begins at conception and it is the duty of our government to protect this life.

I will always vote for any and all legislation that would end abortion or lead us in the direction of ending abortion. I support a Human Life Amendment and have co-sponsored the Life at Conception Act as federal solutions to the abortion issue.

In addition, I support a Sanctity of Life Amendment, establishing the principle that life begins at conception. This legislation would define life at conception in law, as a scientific statement.

Wow. So...

What's the difference between the Obama and the democrats vs. Paul and the republicans?

Rand Paul just drew a huge, thick red line between the DNC and the GOP.

Life does begin at conception...science has proven it just like science has proven that the earth is round, grass is green, and the sky is blue.

That's what I find so interesting about Rand's 2nd political masterstroke....it is rooted in science, not religion.

No, this isnt going to get

No, this isnt going to get him very far like the drone topic did. With the drones, people on both sides can kinda agree and what not. With abortion, its one group of people who will agree and the others that will not period.
I sure it will get him something with the right, but there are better things like wading into the gun debate.

To climb the mountain, you must believe you can.

I am new and open to abortion topic. Here are my questions?

Actually my questions and my devils advocate position.
I am genuinely interested in hearing arguments and I have not made up my mind so please keep the discussion logical, and no emotional rants. If I thought I was talking to pro-choice people I would play devils advocate the other way.

1. So this bill would make the morning after pill murder? Y'all cool with that?

2. Lets say we all agree life begins at conception. Although mother has no right to kill fetus, does she have an obligation to support this (in her mind) parasite living off of her body? If science allows the fetus to live, then taking it out is like giving it up for adoption. However if science does not allow, then it is not fair to call it murder. It is simply not allowing the fetus to live in your body. If the Fetus can't survive without another then that is the fetus's problem to solve.

Looking forward to your answers on this.

Morning after pill is a hormone pill designed to prevent concept

conception. It is not an "abortion". really people

I was under the impression...

the contraceptive pill, when used in a larger dose as the morning after pill caused the embryo to pass straight through the uterus. If I am wrong, then forgive me. I am just the product of a state school.

So change my question to IUD. Is that murder?

To your second point...

That's Walter Block's theory on Evectionism.

Frankly, I find abortion abhorrent. Having said that... making a woman carry a baby to term from THE MOMENT OF CONCEPTION is not only impossible (you gonna have a fed in every bedroom drawing hormone levels on women right before they have sex?) ... but also immoral.

Here's a good thought experiment: if Rand's bill passes, what do we do with women that have an ectopic pregnancy? Embryo/baby is gonna die regardless, but that law would make it murder for the woman to have a medical abortion to keep from bleeding to death internally.

Seems like this plan wasn't thought out to the fullest extent possible.

More importantly: what in the world is Rand thinking? He was doing so well... bringing up Abortion is a sure fire way to shoot himself in the foot, unless his goal is to only get the GOP nomination and then risk losing the general.

Ok, without having read the

Ok, without having read the actual bill, I am only assuming that you are being ridiculous with this. I find it hard to believe that they would expect a woman to bleed to death. Besides, an ectopic pregnancy is not a vital pregnancy. Baby under no circumstances will grow in an ectopic pregnancy.

Also, there are a lot of motivated pro life women.

A politician? Taking a stand for what he believes in?

Absolutely preposterous!

Daily Paul cured my abibliophobia.

risk is the key

But is this good?

Remember the guy Ron Paul had speak at his 2012 Ron Paul Rally? A woman owns her environment and when someone trespasses onto that private property, she retains the right to evict. If she did not allow the baby to be conceived, then the baby is a trespasser, innocent or not. Once the baby reaches a stage in development that they can be evicted but still survive, the mother does not retain a right to kill the child and the child's life must be protected. how do you not infringe on the mother's rights to her body by protecting unwanted life at conception? That just does not make sense... both parties were innocent.

Also, this decision should be left to the States, remember? The federal government does not have authority to regulate abortion.

"Government is not reason; it is not eloquence. It is force. And force, like fire, is a dangerous servant and a fearful master." George Washington

Walter Block

I remember his speech (see above), and agree completely.

circle continues.

Last week I'd seen a video of Rand Paul defending the idea of ending the federal prohibition on drugs and he said that murder is illegal but states handle the punishment. Am I to understand that on Abortion he wants the federal government to handle the punishment or not? This is kind of confusing in my mind. What's the point of making abortion illegal at the federal level, if states can always nullify it? I dunno, just seems like a contradiction of sorts.

Just curious. Other than that, I really hate this issue. It's like gay marriage, stem cell research, and the confederate flag in South Carolina. KEEP THE GOVERNMENT OUT OF IT.

a clever ruse

intended to stir up state rights. That is the common factor between the drones & abortion.

I thought this as well. It is incongruent and unconstitutional.

And Ron agrees with us that it is unconstitutional.

Protect your assets and profit from the greatest wealth transfer in history.

Good point,...

We found that abortions were too expensive, so we just waited til our kids were born, then snuffed them out in their sleep.

You're right, government can't force us to raise them.

Some people think the fetus and babies have rights, but they are crazy.

Believe what you want. Act on

Believe what you want. Act on your beliefs in your own life but you are dead wrong on the politics of abortion and federal government. No matter what you believe you can't force a woman the carry a fetus without using force you have no right to use. That decision is between her and her god and maybe her family if she chooses to include them only. Sorry life is a bitch.

“Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the government take care of him better take a closer look at the American Indian.” ― Henry Ford.

There's a lot of things government can't "stop"

"No matter what you believe you can't force a woman the carry a fetus without using force you have no right to use."

You're right. We can't keep you from killing your babies. But we can decide whether you should face justice. Government can't "stop" murder just because the rest of us agree it's wrong, but there are STILL things we can do about it.

"Dead wrong on the politics

"Dead wrong on the politics of abortion and the federal government?"

Are you sure about that?

You speak as if the government is right...when you know how the individual is wrong.

There is no mention of force. The only person forcing the action is you. That's the real CHOICE in the matter...YOU.

Pro Life or Pro Choice.

Keep the child, or kill it.

Those are the only choices we have.

To keep or to kill?

For good or for evil?

Life or Death?

Never be afraid to ask simple questions.

Actually, there is a third choice....

(but it does involve one of the two) There is the right to allow an adoptive family to care for the child.

I understand both sides of this, but when we are to the point that Obama care threatens to force Christian businesses to pay a staggering fine every day for upholding their principles already, I say: Government, just leave everyone alone. PP can get donations from liberals, Crisis Pregnancy Centers can get donations from their supporters. Just don't take my hard earned money for a cause that I am diametrically opposed to! (That includes a whole stack of other stuff as well, but this is one of the more egregious examples.)

"Hence, naturally enough, my symbol for Hell is something like the bureaucracy of a police state or the office of a thoroughly nasty business concern." ~~C.S. Lewis

but conception?

when does that occur?

Fortune Favors the Bold

in my house...

2nd tuesday of every month ;)

You got....

your left and right all mixed up. Technically, Rand went (right) then he went (left).

Its time for Americans to realize and be well educated that civil liberties were never a "left" position. Its a lie!

And stop saying: "I'm fiscally conservative but socially liberal" That just does not make any sense! It's like saying: I like red apples but I prefer blue skies.

The Libertarian Party, irrelevant since 1971.

On a side note...If I go out

On a side note...

If I go out and get a girl pregnant on a one night stand tonight, why should the government pay for the abortion? Whatever happened to personal responsibility?

If I go out tonight and decide to ski the K-12, and wind up breaking my leg, should the government pay for that?

After skiing the slopes with my broken leg and all and I go out later tonight to bang some hooker and get an STD, should the government pay for the treatment?

Government (Taxpayer) funded abortions MUST STOP!

Bill Gates, yes...the Microsoft guy, his father was the man behind Planned Parenthood.

Why do they call it, "Planned Parenthood?"

Shouldn't they call it, "The Planned Government Subsidized Abortion Clinic?"

Why should I and other American citizens have to pay for your own created dilemma?

If I were dumb enough to go out to a bar, get loaded, attempt to drive home and accidentally killed your husband, mother, father, son, daughter, niece, nephew, uncle, or aunt in an auto wreck, should the government pay for what I have done?

The same logic applies to abortion....but the people involved actually have a real CHOICE in the matter.

Never be afraid to ask simple questions.

Which is cheaper Abortion or a Lifetime of Gov't Services??

Let's think a little further ahead with this issue an not pretend it's so simple.

While I appluad your perspective..

is the system isnt set up that way.

Its nice to be philosophical. Honest.

The truth is, most dont get it.

We cannot escape it.

'Peace is a powerful message.' Ron Paul

It's going to be a joy:

Someday soon, the neocons and phony social conservatives are going to have sit there and watch those damn Libertarian kids, nutters, and basement dwellers do what they couldn't do; successfully defend the right to life.

Never underestimate how badly "ridicule" can backfire.

Rand Paul: "I did it MYYYYYYY WAYYYYYYY!"

My view of abortion changed

When I read Liberty Defined by his dad.

I was adopted but still pro choice. I read the chapter on Abortion and my viewpoint changed immediately.

Now I am vehemently against abortion. I also do not support the death penalty any more.

The whole chapter was incredible espousing the sanctity of life and one of the best chapters in a book ever written.

what about evictionism?
