Dylan Ratigan quits Soul-sucking MSNBC to become an Organic Farmer to aid Veterans!

Remember Dylan Ratigan?

Well, our Dr. Paul-friendly former MSNBC commentator's had a beautiful and fruitful catharsis:

Putting Our Money Where Our Mouth Is

March 20, 2013

Dear friend,

If you are reading this, you likely know I left a highly-successful, self-titled show at MSNBC last June in search of meaning and purpose in my work and life. I had lost both after 18 years in Manhattan and the chaos surrounding the hollow political debates permeating America’s media and politics.

After 780 hours of political cable news, 6000 hours of live financial television, 45 cities, 2 national jobs tours, 277,963 signatures to amend The Constitution, 245 pages of book and a promotion tour for Greedy Bastards, I was exhausted.

It was a three-tour Iraq combat Marine and his war-protestor wife who pointed me in a new direction. They were guests on my show last June discussing how they were bootstrapping their way to operate a high-yield hydroponic organic farm that uses 90% less water and produces three times as much food. It was a business that promised to cure food deserts – areas where access to fresh and healthy food is limited – while having the potential to create jobs for thousands of combat veterans, each of whom was the beneficiary of $1 million in military training while on active duty.

Dylan

is probably happier than he has been in a long time. Good on him.
I'd much rather these guys get plugged into sustainable agriculture than become cops.
I just spent about 2 weeks on a farm of sorts and it was extremely refreshing. The food, animals, plants, peace and quiet are just good for the soul. It makes you realize how much noise and stress you're subjected to living in (or even close to) the city.

I attended the VSAT course

and deployed to Iraq with Colin Archipley. Fantastic experience, he and Karen have a great program doing honorable work. Some have brought up the concern of working to closely with government. Being one of the many voluntaryist I'd do it a bit differently. But with in keeping the dynamic duos aim to help veterans, there is probably not a better way to do it. Plus the fact that a high percentage of vets come from rural or ag backgrounds makes it a natural transition. I believe I can safely say from experience that Colin and Karen are truly independent and are believers that Agriculture is the way to turn this country around; based on the population increase and arable land matrix alone. Add in the cost and availability of water equation, and they likely have cracked the code.

thanks for sharing your 1st person POV

and experience with them and the program.

it sounds promising.

all those 'criticisms' aside, they seem to mean well, the program seems effective, seems to be headed in the right direction, and if it spreads nationwide, as described, it can be an awesome game changer.

their gardening/farming model works; for those concerned with WholeFoods/local govt subsidy, I'd say simply copy their methods and share them. It's the biz and technical gardening model that is demonstrated to work. Simply seek another financial infrastructural paradigm.

Food freedom IS freedom, at least a very key component of it. I commend them. And, in this case, I commend WholeFoods for recognizing it, and publicizing it.

Thanks

And well said.

I also used to work in media,

I also used to work in media, got as far as a #4 market in the nation and was highly disturbed at how things were being done. I also decided that kind of life was not for me. I am so happy to see someone who made it as far as he did and called it off do the something good with his life. I have the highest respect for his decision.

Good Story, I was with him right up until this;

"We have begun redeploying returning veterans and unemployed civilians to US cities, while coordinating with city, state and federal governments to create good jobs providing local, fresh food, reduced energy waste and pollution, improved wellness and rebuild infrastructure."

Why even get them involved?

Liberty or Death

Great story I love it! We

Great story I love it! We all need to start doing what we love and the money will follow. Start right where your at start today!

We also gotta stop nit picking every little thing about folks that we think they are not doing some things up to our standards. People are at all different levels we need to praise every step forward instead of condemning them for not going as far as we think they should.

This is refreshing and reassuring!

More to come from me on this exact topic, but Dylan is absolutely correct!

"I left a highly-successful, self-titled show at MSNBC last June in search of meaning and purpose in my work and life."

I quit too! I wanted to tell you guys sooner, but there's still a few things I'm working out!

I indicated my intent to resign my awesome job on Monday! I've been thinking about it for a long time, and after watching some Napoleon Hill, specifically this, I quit my awesome marketing job a few days later.

You wouldn't believe the storm of doubt that rained down from friends, family, and co-workers, but like Dylan says, finding meaning and purpose in life was more important.

I'm going to pursue my dreams of starting successful businesses and helping others do the same! I've never felt so free in my life. I'm going to write more on this as the story develops.

Thanks so much for sharing! This is awesome!

Congratulations Rob!

Best of luck. Keep us posted on your progress.

Simply by taking bold action, you serve as an inspiration to those around you.

How cool is that? Simply by doing what you love, you inspire others to do the same.

I don't believe in good luck!

Good luck is the ability to spot opportunity! :)

But thanks for your kind words MN, and thanks for your help and encouragement with RCB. You sir, have inspired a lot of people to take actions too, and that should not be forgotten!

That is exactly right! Inspiring people along the way, money, riches, and material gains are merely consequences of conceiving, believing, and achieving your dreams.

I just stumbled across the completely relevant and amazing video!

I always liked Dylan Ratigan he looked for truth.

Which is more important that whether one can agree to me...

Msnbc will be even worse without him, but that place can't be cured and he will no doubt be better off with out it. I like where his search for truth has lead him.

Congrats, Rob.

Nice

Where did I hear it? Somewhere along the way. Career advice that went something like this:

"Imagine if money were no object. What would you choose to do with your life then? Think about it, and whatever it is, go do that. Do what you love, and the money will follow.

And if the money does not follow, it does not matter because you're doing what you love."

Was it from Alan Watts that I originally heard it? I can't remember. But our friend tragedyandhope made a wonderful video of Dr. Watts talking about it: (and his video has 1.8 million views! Way to go!)

What if money were no object?

We all think of a guy like Dylan Ratigan as loaded, so he can do whatever he wants. Maybe he is, maybe he's not. Maybe he was living hand to mouth like the rest of us. Maybe he lost it all in the crash. Who knows. Even if he did have a pile of money, what he did - throwing out the time worn and tested pattern from something new... Plunging head first into the unknown. That takes courage.

My hat is off to Dylan Ratigan. I sure enjoyed watching him on CNBC back in the day, and on the MSNBC clips. Man could that guy talk!

Nice also to see that he can walk!

Great Quote!

That's another good one. It is always very scary. Sometimes you have to be pushed, lol.

I actually think it was

I actually think it was Dylan's comments that finally made Ron decide to run for President again. I could be wrong but I would put money on the notion that Dylan voted for Ron, too. Either way, it is good that he is away from that true rat race, and I think his humanity will find a better home here.

Two weeks ago I searched him on the web

There was nothing ... I had hoped he would go in this direction. He is a smart guy. Food is money ... I am and will be doing the same. Building my green house in NH in may or june.

I was JUST wondering what happened to him a few days ago

He was one of the only anchors on corporate news that had *anything* honest to say about what was happening.

Although he was on the Blue Network - his niche was toward independents and he always was open to new solutions and was sincere in his examination of competing sides of an issue.

In short, he was a Real Journalist. Not as on point with liberty as Ben Swann is -- but of the same DNA of integrity.

I even read one of his books and have a lot of respect for his positions, some of which I feel are spot on (others not so much)

Of all things he could get into this is totally awesome.

yea

I remember when he had the melt down when he was on another show...I knew he was done. Good man.

I was wondering what happened

I was wondering what happened to Dylan. He was a solid, good journalist on MSNBC, not because he favored RP but because he was respectful to RP, asked good questions and explained situations, explanation being difficult because it requires time and study.

Dylan could take a complex subject and break it down to its nuts and bold while retaining its substance. That's what I remember most about Dylan.

Although I wish Dylan stayed in a position of prominence because he presented "the other side," freedom's side, fairly well especially to mainstream news viewers, I'm happy for him he's doing well and that what he's doing well in returns him to himself. I hope you're a journalist still, Dylan, regardless if it's not in the big time. People know you and your work. Someone in big media would be fortunate to pick you up. Hell, maybe Faux Snooze will hire you, being that it improved itself when Andrew Napolitano and John Stossel got shows to promote freedom.

But don't wait for F Snooze. It looks as though you got your own show, a podcast. Keep it up. Maybe you can parlay it into XM radio or, better, fashion it into a into television station that rivals the big boys. Why not? Just keep pounding the truth pavement, Dylan. Free men and women are out here. We outnumber the bastards by a long shot. In what you do for freedom from here on out, Dylan, I wish you well.

yup, he was one of the better ones

I do wish he didn't have to go through local gvts, which means tax subsidies, etc. Be that as it may, if he's not calling for NEW subsidies just for his program, while not ideal, it's still a good 1st step.

All fundamental econ & political philosophies and differences aside, when you get right down to it, with most people, they just want to lead a fruitful life, without harming anyone, and just let it be.

It's always when one astro-turfed 'modern' socially engineered tribe dangle the natural human empathy carrot before the well-meaning, twist their abstract global 'gee... that'd be nice if the world were more like this' sentiment into a centrally command-controlled institutionalism be it via govt, banksterism, or corporatism.

But, just in case y'all weren't certain before, yup, FauxNews is actually less 'faux' than MSDNC these days!

Who'd have 'thunk' it? MSDNC actually out-foxed, Fox!

http://stateofthemedia.org/2013/special-reports-landing-page...

FakeNewsNetwork is 'only' 55% pure opinion, and MSDNC is...wait for it....wait for it...a motherfrakking whopping 85%!

http://www.dailypaul.com/278987/pew-research-study-finds-msn...

Yes, MSDNC is 85% opinion commentary. It stopped all pretense of 'news' ever since their laughable PR (considering they're a major TV & Film media powerhouse) of "Lean Forward" childish BS PR campaign.

Pew Research, their biased gun stats aside, still better than some mainstream polling and 'research' co; be that as it may, their study only confirms what we always, already knew about MSDNC... well suppose along with all other MSM companies.

The problem I have with what

The problem I have with what Dylan and the Marine are doing is that it automatically starts by putting government and big business in a position of power. They work with government as Dylan stated and start with a grant from Whole Foods; meaning that without either of these entities they wouldn't be doing anything. This then puts a sense of dependency and gratitude to both government and business, and these people will therefore most-likely pay taxes to contribute to what shipped the marine off to war and what Dylan has been railing against. They are propping-up the broken system which they both are trying to disassociate with. It is like a perpetual-motion machine.

If this was done more Voluntarily without the help of government or business in a community which has been decimated; and an Agorist perspective of business was to be utilized. One could place government in a position whereby the people are being lifted out of poverty and if the government wants to collect "its" taxes it would have to force the people back into poverty. This would not be a good situation for government to find itself in. If anarchists were smart they would utilize this approach and take-over the run-down towns and cities decimated by bad government policies, and rebuild those towns and cities with Voluntaryist/Agorist policies and principles; thereby turning an entire town, which would have normally be a Liberal Progressive stronghold, into a Voluntaryist/Agorist stronghold.

Can I ask you an honest question?

If General Electric gave me funds to start a hemp business, would you have moral and/or economic issues with me and/or my business?

I like your idea about the "abandoned cities," though. +1

If you don't know your rights, you don't have any.

Great comment, TP. I wrote a comment, it's above yours. In it I said Dylan discussed freedom issues fairly well to mainstream media viewers. Your comment here is an example why I said "fairly well" instead of well and why I said "...to mainstream media viewers." I had to make qualifications. Even though I think positively about Dylan, he has work to do to convey freedom without contradictions. Solid freedom comment, TP.
