Florida college student suspended for not ‘stomping on Jesus’

"A Florida Atlantic University student is accusing an instructor and local Democratic party leader of suspending him for refusing to stomp on a piece of paper with the word “Jesus” written on it.

Mediaite reported on Friday that junior Ryan Rotela said he has been barred from returning to his intercultural communications class after complaining about an exercise assigned by his professor, Deandre Poole, three weeks ago.

“I said to the professor, ‘With all due respect to your authority as a professor, I just do not believe what you told us to do was appropriate, I believe it was unprofessional, and I was deeply offended by what you told me to do.’” Rotela told WPEC-TV.

Rotela, who identifies himself as a Mormon, said that he put the paper back on his desk instead of stomping on it.

“Any time you stomp on something, it shows that you believe that something has no value,” he said. “If you were to stomp on the word ‘Jesus,’ it says that the word has no value.”"

people are now going after the book on Amazon

Gigs writes: "I was looking for a book about stomping on Jesus, man this one really fit the bill. Sure, there are other books about stomping on Jesus, but this is really the authority on the matter. I was a little disappointed that there wasn't more coverage of stomping on Buddha, considering that the title of this book is "Intercultural Communication" so it loses one star for that."

From the few pages I was able to read, it looked like it was pushing the UN's Our Common Future bullcrap. Multiculturalism respects no culture ans is actually how the UN intends to create a world that accepts its, the UN's, Agenda 21 culture.

As I couldn't read the whole book, and wouldn't want to, I'm sure there's a section whereby the students will be asked to throw down a mat and pray towards Mecca just to know how that feels.

Weird story. It doesn't quite

Weird story. It doesn't quite add up IMO.

If this was Public School

The teacher would of been fired imo or there would of been a good resolution in favor of the plaintiff.

Quick research on the professor

Just google the professor's FB page...he "likes" Gospel music and the Bible.

There could be more to this story than Christian persecution.

And make sure to read the linked story. Certainly, the syllabus of the class uses this to make a cultural point, not to persecute.

I applaud this student for not doing what he felt uncomfortable doing, but I think we'll find there's more to the story than what we're hearing.

If it were any other

religious figure there would be an uproar.

Colleges are a cesspool of demented thinking. Our daughter had to take an freshman English composition class where the students had to sit in groups (of course) and dissect a rap song by Drake that was beyond offensive - particularly to the girls in the class. All the while the little demon teacher was laughing everytime he repeated the perverted words of the song taking great enjoyment in its content, the squirming of the girls, and the raucous laughter of the guys. And this is beneficial how?

Our daughter, a Christian, was disgusted and went to the dean of the dapartment and requested to transfer to another class (the syllabus indicated that further classes would not be any different - the next reading assugnment was why straight girls are attracted to homsosexuals). The idiot dean admitted the teacher liked to stretch the boundaries but told our daughter her moral boundaires were just different than everyone elses. She was not the only one offended - just the only one who spoke up. He let her transfer which tells me he knew the content of the class was wrong and didn't want her to make waves. Transferring is not usually allowed.

Glad the kid from Florida spoke up - it is a rare thing - the current generation in the colleges were raised as group-thinkers and do not like to stand up for anything. Of course half of them aren't paying attention because they can not stop texting for one millisecond - even in class.

The law cannot make a wicked person virtuous…God’s grace alone can accomplish such a thing.

Libertarians anyone

the reality is that some people profess to be for liberty until liberty offends some state sponsored superstition and then a simple of act disrespect is now grounds to be excoriated. Freedom if for the believers, those who are independent need not attend. that's sarcasm by the way.

The title says it all lol

Do not expect any decency or common sense from one. These Universities and Colleges are all corporate bodies. Think of them as a business and you a customer. In this case their customer service stinks and you should not deal with them again imo. I do not know if the guy has a legal case here since the school is probably all private. When you register you usually end up giving up something like signing a business conduct agreement with a company.

Perhaps the Civil Rights Act can help him ?????

How about stomping on some other words

Like Mohammed or ni***r.

Lesson from loony tune academia: Christians have no right to be offended, because they are not welcome in the self-defined class of perpetually offended.

I think the real issue is the suspension of the student. A school should be sensitive to students' sensibilities and allow them to object and to opt out without reprisal or damage to their grades. Further, as the update states, the teacher was a pervert getting off on the 'stomp on Jesus' part and completely ignoring the intellectual aspect as described in the lesson plan--that people will in fact be hesitant and that's the importance of symbols in culture. The professor and his supervisor should both be suspended.

As the linked article mentions, this is the same college where a professor claimed that Sandy Hook was staged by the government. If the school's definition of academic freedom protects all views and not just leftist views, at least it is balanced.

Ryan should add this to his resume. There are still a lot of employers who value principle and backbone.
