'Obama’s “No Fly” List for FedEx and UPS'

by Wendy McElroy | March 22, 2013 | FFF

The Obama administration is notorious for crony capitalism, through which big businesses reap huge riches by virtue of their cozy association with government. Big oil, big car companies, big agrobusinesses, big banks, and big drug corporations are among the legally privileged cronies who are profiting at the expense of nonprivileged competitors and of customers who pay higher prices.

Now the Department of Justice (DOJ) is trying to institute the shipping version of a “no fly” list on behalf of the big pharmaceutical companies and in the name of the war on drugs. The DOJ wants America’s two largest courier/delivery services to open and report on the shipments from online pharmacies, allegedly to staunch the flow of illegal pharmaceuticals. Here’s the catch: the DOJ wants packages opened even when there is no reason to suspect illegal contents.

FedEx spokesman Patrick Fitzgerald explained, “sealed packages … are being sent by, as far as we can tell, licensed pharmacies. These are medicines with legal prescriptions written by licensed physicians.” Fitzgerald added, “We are a transportation company that picks up and delivers close to 10 million packages every day. They are sealed packages, so we have no way of knowing specifically what’s inside and we have no interest in violating the privacy rights of our customers.”

Here's the deal

with lots of online pharmaceutical companies. They are far cheaper that ones not online, especially those found outside of the US. So, if people can get their medicine for cheaper and outside the US then that defies Obummer Care. It's not necessarily that they think there are 'illegal' drugs in them. They want the poor/middle class that they have artificially manufactured to get their legal drugs at a higher price because that benefits their pocket books and is more control for them to play with. This attempt to control UPS and FedEx is the preverbal child crying over spilled milk with a temper tantrum because he can't get his way. This child needs a very unpolitically-correct spanking.

Isaiah 2:4
And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

Federal Pharmacists

Pharmacist go through extensive training before they are licensed to handle drugs. Let's hope that the guys in the back rooms of UPS and FedEx are equally qualified.

The bully child is the DOJ. Eric Holder is head of the DOJ.

Mr. Fast & Furious is long overdue for a good spanking. :)

why use ups and fedex?

Surely there are other companies or DIY.

We have seen how they handle parcels/items/gifts, you see it in the malls and streets. MOREOVER, this is why outsourcing is really stupid at times. I personally would not have trust in getting these companies to deliver. Find pharmacies closer by or get your butt out there or get a family member or neighbor to get you something on their way out and do likewise. That is how we did it. There was as not as much need for something like ups before. Can you imagine their insurance costs? lol

Their drivers go like madmen, I have seen them in the wee hours tractor trailers and all. Do people really need to buy so much junk? I have yet to buy anything on the web and have no desire to do so. If I want to return something I want to do it that day and deal with the vendor or manufacturer person to person.

tssk tssk...

Wont they ever learn? Where's the think tank evaluating the unintended consequences? This will become very major blow to the pharmaceutical companies. Might even bankrupt ups & fedex to boot.

Considering that recent societal responses to infringement on liberty has been to permeate legislation while advancing obselatory technology. I would wager that it wouldnt take long for 3d printers to start popping up everywhere and homebrews of viagra, lipitor, & God knows what becomes as common as a smartv.

Meanwhile, mail parcels might begin to be shipped in encrypted containers. Whereby, only the addressor & addressee have access to its contents. Rendering the search a pointless waste of resources.

Wish I had the resources to build a container business. Im certain that it would become a fruitful endeavor in the years to come.

Et Tu UPS?

I worked relatively high up in the UPS food chain. I left for many reasons, but one of them was the massive letter campaign they launched in support of getting a bill passed to make it easier for FedEx to Unionize. Refusal to write the letters was not handled well.

Although short term for UPS a unionized FedEx would be a great thing, but really, why would we want to give the unions more government authorized power?

Anyway depending on how this "deal" with the DOJ (Read "Sell Out") turns out, I'm dumping my stock and using only FedEX. I suggest the same. UPS is in deep with the government.

More appropriately

this is crony fascism.

Not really

Fascism is neither a political ideology nor an economic philosophy. Fascism is a martial tactic that both commies and corporatists employ when demanding that everyone else become obsequious subjects.

Mussolini admitted toward the end of his life that he and his cronies had erred when they used "fascism" to describe the superstructure of their "glorious new Rome." He encouraged people to refer to it instead as "corporatism."

"Crony" would imply chummy. But coercion is at work here.

According to the article...

Criminal charges have been threatened against both FedEx and UPS if they refuse to cooperate with DOJ demands, on the grounds that they are “aiding and abetting online pharmacies that illegally ship prescription drugs.”

UPS execs are gutless snakes and reprobates

These are the two biggest shippers. If they both publicly defy the DOJ, then freedom wins unequivocally.

UPS colludes with the DOJ to "settle" when they've done nothing wrong and they cave to illegitimate demands of a rogue government agency. This isn't coercion, it's corruption. Corruption trumping the rule of law thanks to willing cooperation between a corrupt corporation and corrupt, euphemistic Department of "Justice".

The sooner these stupid sons of bitches get their asses strung up by the government anyway after being ingratiating lapdogs towards the government, the better.

It would be something to behold if both defied the DOJ.

Sick of the collusion and corruption, that's for sure.

I see where this is going...

won't be long before the contents of every package will have to be "declared".

The 13 oz rule

You can't mail anything over 13 oz without bringing it to the counter. Next step is having to fill out a customs form whether it's going overseas or across town. Any mistakes on the form is lying to a federal officer, the felony Martha Stewart went to prison for.
