Texas: Car dealers are not allowed to sell on Sunday

Sean Willeford remembers going into stores on Sundays and seeing covers draped over tools, knives and other items that couldn't be bought that day.

Those covers - and the blue laws that prevented certain purchases on Sundays - are long gone for the most part.

But Willeford and others are frustrated by one of the few remaining restrictions - the ban on car dealerships being open on both Saturday and Sunday.

"From a societal standpoint, it's ludicrous," said Willeford, 43, of Arlington, who was shopping for cars recently. "I can buy almost anything I want on a Sunday except for a car.

"It's really an inconvenience more than anything."

Still waiting for you to

Still waiting for you to defend your position that worker's compensation laws should be repealed.

Still waiting....

:o)

Give up Bill, you can't argue with anarcho-capitalists (Utopians) or someone who prefers logic to wisdom (as many Libertarians do), or someone who believes that the States job is to protect your rights (government protects nothing but it's own existence), it's pointless man.

Let's say I live in a secluded town of 500 people, each of whom is a bible believing God fearing Christian (if you know of such a place please provide a map). We all decided, as a community, to pass an ordinance prohibiting business, any business, to be conducted on Sundays. Or better yet, we passed an ordinance which prohibits any doctor who cares to practice in our happy little community, from providing at will abortion services. What will be the fate of our community? I'll tell you. Those who have been down voting your post and saying you know nothing of freedom (or similarly misguided individuals), will mount their high horses of Libertarian Justice and come quickly riding in to town.

The relative peace and happiness that was our norm will be replaced by impoverishing legal entanglements, Orwellian controls and regulations, and endless mindnumbing challenges to our faith and freedom. In the end they will have destroyed those very things they intended to protect, mainly life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And they will do all of this because of their simple misunderstanding of what it means to be free, and from Whom it is those freedoms truly originate.

πολλα γαρ πταιομεν απαντες ει τις εν λογω ου πταιει ουτος τελειος ανηρ δυνατος χαλιναγωγησαι και ολον το σωμα

May I correct you?

Sunday is not the day of rest I am going to quote you the catechism, it is very clear why they worship on the Sunday (I have the book in my hand I would be happy to send you an original scan if you wish):
Peter Geiermann, C.S.S.R., The Converts Catechism of Catholic Doctrine (1957), p. 50.
"Question: Which is the Sabbath day?
"Answer: Saturday is the Sabbath day.

"Question: Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?
"Answer. We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday."

So if you are saying catechism believing Catholics you have a point, yet you are abusing your power. If you are saying Bible believing Christians then history happen to disagree. Because you are forcing (via fines, prison, etc whoever does not do what you want) your beliefs to others. That is why we are a republic in which we defend the rights of the minorities.

That is the problem of today's Washington, the "majority" choose Obama so why do you complain of his policies if the "majority" elected him. We don't like it because we are a Republic therefore even the minority rights should be respected....

A good way to defend your freedoms: www.libertymagazine.org

Ever heard the term "hypothetical"? It was a hypotheticical argument. Deconstruct my argument if you will, but this... seriously?

I work 80 hours a week and rest when I can. I don't require a bible lesson on the Sabbath, but thanks anyways.

What absolute nonsense

You demand your freedom to get what you want but deny others that same freedom. What a greedy POS.

I said vote on this

I said vote on this law....thats freedom right???

Write your fucking congressman and ask him to put it up for a vote.

Salespeople outnumber owners atleast 20-1....it will not change.

Uhhh

You must be trolling. Should 51% be able to vote how 49% conduct Buisness? How bout can 51% vote to steal from the 49%? If we voted doesn't that mean we have freedom. Utter BS. Tyranny of the majority is just as bad as a dictator.'

You don't want to work on Sunday ? Don't work. Don't want to buy a car on Sunday, don't do it. Don't prevent me from participating in voluntary commerce.

I live in Indiana where we still have blue laws. No car sales on Sunday, no alcohol sales either, unless you're in a bar/restaurant or at a sporting event. Way to go Christians legislating your morality onto us! Utter tyranny...

OK so if a vote, which is a

OK so if a vote, which is a pillar of our country isn't right ....then maybe a group of corrupted people, like electoral college, should decide.

I live and sell cars in Indiana, its not tyranny if it protects the employees from an owner who would exploit them. Its not tyranny if it doesn't harm anyone ....no victim, no crime.

If you don't work in the field , why should you have a say in how it operates if it harms no one????

Call senator coats and tell him you want to bring up a voteon these horrible laws that hurt no one.

How do these laws affect you and your family specifically??

That's the wrong answer.

That's the wrong answer. Christianity did not impose blue laws on you, your government did.

Ron Paul 2012 - It's Almost Here!

Voting away others rights and freedom

How noble of you

So you are okay to be enslaved as long as it was voted on. What a moron

OK, so if it is not up for a

OK, so if it is not up for a vote. Who should decide ???

Sounds like you want communism or a dictator.

Who is the moron now?

the business owner should decide

you nitwit.

You should stop replying. You look more foolish and ignorant with every post.

Good job replying to a

Good job replying to a business that you know nothing about.

Your bus must've been shorter than mine in school.

the type of business is irrelevant

you using force against the owner is despicable

Physical force? Where was

Physical force? Where was that implied?

Now have a landlord ever used force to evict a tenant illegally? There are laws that protect against that.

you are using the force of government

which at the end is deadly force you using against the business owner

It is truly amazing how ignorant and foolish you are with every post. Can't wait for the next retarded response.

Wow.....the drones are

Wow.....the drones are circling your ford focus specifically.

Watch out for the black helicopters.

Pray to Rand to save you.

I was not dissapointed

your stupidity is reaching new levels

No where in there was I

No where in there was I denying anyone their freedom...or maybe you cant decypher sarcasm.

State a dissenting argument instead of going straight to insults.....

Why is it that you want to change the laws that affect me and others whom it protects, but wont change the laws that protect the kinds of people from bad landlords or investment bankers?

your ignorance about freedom and rights is epic

you have clearly stated that you are in favor of denying the owner of the business you work at the right to decide if they are open for business on Sundays. Yes, you are denying other people their freedom.

Oh but as long as it is a majority vote then denying freedom is just fine.

No where did you state that the owner was stealing, defrauding, or injuring anyone else. Those would be wrong, but just being open for business to sell a car is calls for laws to protect you? Protect you from what? Your own poor decision to agree to work at a place that you don't want to if you have to work Sundays.

Insults are the least people should spout at you.

Are you only able to buy a

Are you only able to buy a car on Sunday based on your schedule? Is that the sole extent to your involvement in this issue? It doesn't affect you probably so why stick your beak in?

I am defending the rights of those you wish to

deny rights to. That is my involvement.

move along traitor

IT'S NOT YOUR JOB!!!!!

it is the owners job that he allows you to do and pays you for doing it. if you're not the owner then it isn't YOUR job.
