Rand Paul: "The Last Two Presidents Could Have Been Put Into Jail For Their Drug Use" - VIDEO

Jeff Poor | Daily Caller | March 24, 2013

On this weekend’s broadcast of “Fox News Sunday,” Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul said punishments for marijuana-related crimes should be reduced, citing President Barack Obama’s reported drug use as a reason to look past certain minor indiscretions.

“The main thing I’ve said is not to legalize them, but not to incarcerate people for extended periods of times,” Paul said. “I’m working with Sen. [Patrick] Leahy — we have a bill on mandatory minimums. There are people in jail for 37, 50, 45 years for nonviolent crimes. That is a huge mistake. Our prisons are full of nonviolent criminals.”

He's catching on...

Im tellin ya!

'Peace is a powerful message.' Ron Paul

Again, Rand is not his

Again, Rand is not his father, but he is moving the conversation in our direction. I support this man.

Not to start trouble - but exactly - he is NOT his father

his father would not have had the balls to call out the sitting president.
No offense to Ron - he is a great man and he is the one who opened my eyes - but he was not a good politician and he wasn't good at playing the game.

This is why Rand will accomplish more. Sure he may not be 100% libertarian - but - he WILL move the needle.

Now lets start the real talk - will the Republicans let him win the nomination - or will they railroad him like they did Ron?
It's never to early to start thinking.

Ron and Rand definitely have

Ron and Rand definitely have different styles, I think it has a bit to do with age. I can't remember the name, the Morton Downey show maybe(?), but Ron got in that guy's face, and it was in 88 when he was a lot younger.

I think your comment contains a certain gray area, and that is the definition of "accomplishing more". Perhaps legislatively and politically Rand will accomplish more. But it seems quite clear to me that Ron, through simple morals and consistency, has changed the conversation more than Rand ever could, and he has inspired an entire generation. Ron has always said his goal was never legislative achievement, but education. I also think Rand would not be able to accomplish as much, barring unforeseen circumstances, if it weren't for his father. So, comparing what they have accomplished and will accomplish seems a bit unfair to them both. I think Rand, while not as pure as his father, will continue to move the conversation in the proper direction.

Rand Paul, living large.

And the last two US Presidents SHOULD have been put in jail

for more serious crimes.

Localism is for people who can still sleep at night even though somebody they don't know in a city they have never been is doing things differently. ("Localism, A Philosophy of Government" on Amazon for Kindle or Barnes and Noble ebook websites)

Make that the last 3

presidents.....

Rand Paul should go on a

Rand Paul should go on a Queer Eye for the Strait Guy episode. I'd like to see what they do with is hair, even though it doesn't bother me, it's just joke material for the opposition, even though it's childish.

I'm serious. He should time the appearance for when it would be most politically advantageous for his political carrier.

Every time that sucker opens

Every time that sucker opens his mouth, a daemon loses their wings.

Arrgh! My Head!

The dissonance... it's... too... much!!

lol

It must eat them up that it is him, not Obama, who is saying this stuff. That makes me smile a little, I must admit.

And I like how they just don't even get where Rand is coming from. What a bunch of clowns. Could they be any more stuck in the right/left paradigm??? DERP

Bumpity bump

100% about the last few presidents being drug users at some point themselves. Ah, but they are privileged--different standard for them!

I think Rand made big points today - watching Twitter - a lot

of very positive comments from the Chicago, NYC areas, hispanics, etc. I thought it was presented perfectly using example of Bush & Obama being "lucky"

An outstanding response on a

An outstanding response on a no-win issue. Harmless in spots, bold in others. This is how you win elections without compromising core principles.

10-15 million more voters need to believe in non-interventionism (liberty) at home and abroad to change America. Minds changed on Syria. Minds changing on privacy. "Printing money" is part of the dialogue. Win minds through focus, strategy.

Copping out again. Well which

Copping out again. Well which is it Rand? Make the hypocrisy legal or arrest those presidents. This, "well we don't want to legalize", we just don't want to have enforcement BS is just another failure of leadership. Do we have law or not? If the law is wrong then say it.

It seems this Paul chooses "selective straight talk" and sooner or later he is going to screw up big by trying to walk that line and the MSM is just waiting to crucify him for it. Why not just say it. The drug war is a scam on the American people and then quote Jefferson as to the inconveniences of too much liberty. He needs to educate people not placate TPTB.

“Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the government take care of him better take a closer look at the American Indian.” ― Henry Ford.

ARRGHHH! Whats wrong with wanting to feel good and be happy?

Its not Rand's or anyone elses place to say smoking weed or using any other drug is wrong. Its behavior that may be unacceptable but I've used drugs all my life and the benefits always have outweighted the few problems they have created. I smoked pot A LOT in high school and college. It did not make me not want to work. I woke up and got high and still worked without any problem. My job was just more pleasant and enjoyable while I was high. I very rarely smoke weed anymore but its only because I just don't like the way it makes me feel nowdays. There are other drugs that I do like now and I enjoy them whenever I feel like it. The one drug I DO NOT use anymore is alcohol. Talk about a drug that creates bizarre behavior...alcohol does that. But drinking and using drugs are a personal choice. I don't care if others drink booze.

People have got to get over their propagandized views on the decisions that individuals make regarding what they CHOOSE to put into their bodies. If I want to get high and sit in my back yard and enjoy soaking in some sun...WTF difference is it of ANYONE?

Again, whats wrong with wanting to feel good and be happy? People do all kinds of shit to make themselves feel good and be happy...why pick on people getting a buzz? Someone that plays tennis too much if they are overweight might die on the court. Should they be banned or put in a cage for playing tennis?

Rand is corrected - "last three presidents" LOL

Good one.

An anonymous source

without any other corroboration? Sounds like someone was scratching the ground to find some dirt to hang on him.

Michael Nystrom's picture

Same for "the last two (three) presidents"

Anonymous sources / rumors, etc.

Why should anonymous sources be more credible if it is about Obama / Bush / Clinton than Paul? Everyone is always scratching the ground to hang dirt on everyone else.

im pretty sure slick willie and barry o

Personally admitted to it. On the arsenio hall show and in a book, respectively. Dont know about dubya off the top of my head but i have heard in the media that he previously participated in illicit drug use until he was "born again". So no anonymous sources unless I've misunderstood you? Those three have more important things to lie about

Is it bad if that makes me want to vote for him more?

I've got a few college stories that go something like that lol
