On March 23rd Saturday in Albuquerque New Mexico the New Mexico GOP held its annual Lincoln Day Dinner at the Albuquerque hotel. The Dinner had a reception which started at 6 pm and the dinner was help at 7 pm. We held our first Republican Liberty Caucus New Mexico chapter state convention at the same hotel from 4 pm to 5:30 pm. We met at a table that was right in front of the entrance to the Lincoln day reception. We were also adjacent to the bar and we were dutiful consumers of some local Albuquerque beers. The prices were outrageous (6 bucks for a pint!) but the brews were cold and from our local Marble brewery so I was satisfied. There were Lincoln day participants in the hallway with us and in the bar and many passed us on the way into the reception area. We missed Mr.Priebus who apparently arrived an hour earlier. I was hoping to interview him and I made a special banner greeting him to our beautiful city. The banner poses a question as to why Mr. Priebus is afraid of the grass roots Republican? I thought it was fitting because Mr. Priebus words have not matched his deeds. At the dinner he spoke of working with the grass roots but his every action as chairman has been to centralize power and crush the very soul of the GOP the local everyman conservative activist. We wrote to Mr. Priebus asking him to meet with us and we gave him every opportunity to do so but we never received a response . I personally wrote to Mr. Priebus as well and we distributed these letters to hundreds of Lincoln day participants .If Mr Priebus were sincere he would have not fraudulently enacted the 2012 RNC rules which only serve to put power in the hands of a few people at the top. If Mr. Priebus were sincere about working with the grassroots he would not be proposing abolishing the caucus process and destroying state primaries by turning them into regional primaries!This will make states like New Mexico irrelevant when we have to share a primary with Texas and Nevada?! Our voice wont matter.
It appears that while Mr. Priebus is saying one thing he is behaving in an entirely different manner. This kind of starts to make sense when you consider some recent statements of our state Chairman John Billingsley. Mr. Billingsley said not a month ago at the Santa Fe County GOP meeting that while he would work with "libertarians" he would not work with "Ron Paul people" and the reason for this is due to the "bad" behavior of "Ron Paul " people at the RNC in Tampa. Now I was a National Delegate in Tampa and I am a Ron Paul Republican. The only unethical behavior I observed in Tampa came from the likes of Reince Priebus who was being honored by Mr. Billingsley as our Lincoln day dinner keynote speaker! What is going on? Why would Mr. Billinglsey say something so profoundly inaccurate?! I think I know why. I have a theory (and it is just a theory) as to why Mr Billinglsey would say something so outrageous and perhaps it is connected to Mr. Priebus and a grander scheme. Perhaps John Billingsley wants to separate the "Libertarians" (see compliant pliable manageable people who will do as they are told ) and "Ron Paul people"(see wild eyed barbarians) . You see we could be witnessing a new tactic of divide and conquer. It is just a theory and I am going to forward this post to Mr. Billingsley and every Republican I can contact in New Mexico in the hopes that Mr. Billingsley will issue a public statement explaining what he meant and I hope it is not true that he intended to insult the very backbone of the party. Mr. Billingsley passed by our table as well and he asked us if we were up to trouble.We good naturedly responded yes . I did not have a chance to speak to John last Saturday but it is on my to do list. We were having a great time getting important business done and drinking when we were approached by Mr Rick Lopez our State GOP 2nd Vice Chair.Now Rick is a nice guy and as a county chairman in northern New Mexico he endorsed and volunteered publicly for Adam Kokesh's Congressional opponent! This is a clear violation of party rules. Rick told us that Mr. Priebus had been saying that he wants to work with the grassroots. I asked him then why does Mr. Priebus not repeal the fraudulent rules he enacted in Tampa and why he is trying to abolish caucuses and force New Mexican Republicans to share votes with Texas and Nevada?! He looked dumbfounded and walked away.As he did so I asked if he would like to take a picture with my Priebus banner. He declined. Next we took pictures with my Priebus banner and with our Rand Paul 2016 banner. We were not trying to be rude we just wanted to have memento's of the event and we do want to send a clear message to our fellow Republicans. We want a fair transparent party for ALL Republicans period. We then adjourned our RLCNM meeting and I and Dr Chrarles Mellon went to the public sidewalk to greet the arriving participants the majority of which had not showed up yet. We stood at the only parking entrance on the public sidewalk. We got lots of honks of approval and even shouts of "I stand with Rand!" The weather was horrible and we were fighting bitter cold and 40 MPH winds. Those of you unfamiliar with the wind in Albuquerque can be assured I am not exaggerating . It was rough but we are a hardy lot. After an hour or so a one of Albuquerque's finest approached us in a squad car. He got out and asked us what we were doing. Now we did have our Rand banner up against an exterior wall but we did not know it was hotel property and we were cold as hell and trying to keep our banner from turning into a kite and remain visible. We bungied my Priebus banner on Charles Truck on the other side other side of the street so the arriving cars could see both. We advised the officer we were trying to resist the wind and he told us we were on hotel property. Brief aside not an hour earlier we were patrons at the hotel bar and I personally dropped about 30 bucks in beer at that place. We apologized explained our mistake and walked out more so we were completely on the public sidewalk which is what we thought we were on before . Now that should have been it. I was a corrections officer for 10 years and had I been that cop I would have left it at that maybe tell us not to go back on the property and leave. This cop however kept escalating the situation and at this point it became a case of harassment not just a police officer doing his job. He said "but you only took one step forward" One step is all it took to get away from the wall. I offered to take another step and promised we had no intentions of returning to the property. Apparently someone complained about us or so the officer claimed. He than asked for our I.d.'s at this point I began filming the officer and I asked him his name and badge #. educated the 20 something officer that he did not want to give the officer his I.D. because he had not committed a crime and we were exercising our Constitutionally guaranteed right to freedom of peaceful assembly and I concurred saying I had committed no crime. This one two punch by Charles and myself seemed to get through to the young officer that he was setting himself up failure and he became more reasonable. Charles than de-escalated the situation by offering to cross the street where everyone who came to the dinner would still see us. That was it but I did tell Charles that his cool under pressure behavior and his disciplined defense of our civil liberties would earn him the support of millions if they were around to hear! He is a very humble man and did not agree but I know that he is the first shot New Mexico has had at a real Constitutional Conservative voice ! It did not occur to me until later that our action took place on the same day that Mr. Patrick Henry gave his famous speech pronouncing his justified hostility against tyranny.
