I get what you're saying..

I'd probably help you with the walloping.. I just think that 30 months in a federal prison would do the average kid more harm than good. No good lessons learned there.

Let's look at some basic

Let's look at some basic definitions:

Assault:

"An assault is carried out by a threat of bodily harm coupled with an apparent, present ability to cause the harm. It is both a crime and a tort and, therefore, may result in either criminal or civil liability."

"The punishment for criminal assault is a fine, imprisonment, or both. As in aggravated assault, the severity of the crime, the extent of violence and harm, and the criminal intent of the defendant are all factors considered in determining the sentence imposed."

Emphasis Mine

Hopefully now you can see why pointing a laser or gun at someone is a crime. Or even threatening to run someone over with your car even if you don't actually do it.

another good case for

another good case for castration

I'm as libertarian as they

I'm as libertarian as they come but pointing a laser at someones eyes is infringing upon that persons life so I don't really care that this criminal gets 30 months in prison. Another useless idiot criminal off the streets for a bit, good riddance. Obviously the people defending this guy have never had a laser pointed at their eyes while driving or flying/landing a plane.

Everyone is responsible for

Everyone is responsible for their own actions. Does a person shining a laser at a plane or car have good intentions or bad? I think the people defending him have done the same thing and don't want to admit they were totally wrong and reckless.

Traded a guilty plea for 30 months in federal prison?

It's the prosecutor who should be jailed. What lying threats did he make to make 30 months a reasonable option.

This is a phony baloney crime anyway. How may people have been blinded by the laser light at the grocery store checkout?

In any event make the State prove it's case.

Free includes debt-free!

A more fitting punishment

A more fitting punishment would be to castrate him. Anyone stupid enough to shine a laser at a plane should not be allowed to reproduce.

Why? You claim a danger but offer nop proof.

?

Free includes debt-free!

What possible good could come

What possible good could come from shining a laser at a plane or car?

==cough==

think about it ;)

A system out of control

While it is dangerous to shine one of these into someones eyes, the punishment here doesn't fit the crime. Nobody was injured and the point could have been clearly made to this kid with 1 night in the county jail. 30 months is obscene, but I guess they have 30 months to sell this kid as slave labor to corporations.

The bold effort the present bank had made to control the government ... are but premonitions of the fate that await the American people should they be deluded into a perpetuation of this institution or the establishment of another like it-Andrew Jackson

I agree. Should have been

I agree. Should have been smacked with a lot of community service and an order from the court that he is not to touch a laser pointer for 5 years. I could see him getting jail time for violating the order though.

I agree..

This seems like an awful lot of federal jail time for this especially if he were just a dumb kid with no idea it would actually reach the plane. I would think that unless there were some extenuating circumstances that weren't made clear he would have been better served by some other punishment.

Another foolish young life swirling down the drain..

Not to mention that he now

Not to mention that he now has a record and will be more unlikely to find a good employment once he gets out which will only increase the liklihood of him resorting to criminal activity.

He got 30 months for pleading guilty, God only knows what they threatened him with if he tried to fight them.

We all share this eternally evolving present moment- The past and future only exist as inconsequential mental fabrications.

Pretty harsh considering just

Pretty harsh considering just a teen but still he should serve time for that. Basically it's nearly the same as firing a gun at an airplane in terms of what could happen if the pilots had been blinded.

LOL get real, theres no

LOL get real, theres no comparison there.

Why because one could leave a

Why because one could leave a tiny hole in the aluminum and the other could cause loss of control and a crash?

Well not quite.

He wasn't smacked for a laser pointer, he was smacked for "lasing" which is pointing such a device at an aircraft. This can temporarily blind or PERMANENTLY INJURE the pilot and result in fatalities. As such it's on the order of shooting the pilot in mid air.

There is nothing strange about having a bar of soap in your right pocket, it's just what's happening.

That's why I don't go though the checkout

All those blind people staggering around.

Free includes debt-free!

"Adam Gardenhire deliberately

"Adam Gardenhire deliberately pointed the commercial grade green laser at a private Cessna Citation" A checkout scanner laser is not the same thing. Still I wouldn't recommend looking directly at one in the grocery store and they do have warning labels on them

So

Is there a study or is the danger a myth?

Free includes debt-free!

It's about the same as the

It's about the same as the myth that one can hit a airplane with a .22 rifle shot and cause it to crash. Highly improbable bordering on impossible but still unsafe nevertheless.

a green commercial laser pointer

Is immensely more brighter than some red common laser pointer you pick up in the toy store or an office supply store. So bright you can see the beam and you can even burn things with one.

Homeland security statement: patriotism is now considered terrorism.
I love www.isidewith.com shared it with everyone I know. If anything they realize its not just a red and blue idiot running for reelection.

didn't mean to echo.

didn't mean to echo.

Wow. We used to play with those outside all the time

when we were kids. We used to turn off all the street lights with them. Good thing I'm not a teen now. I would be put away.

All lasers are not created

All lasers are not created equal. I can just about guarantee the ones you played with were red not green.
