Russia Today And The State Run Media

State run media....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RT_%28TV_network%29

RT, also known as Russia Today, is an international multilingual Russian-based television network.

It is registered as an autonomous non-profit organization[2][3] funded by the federal budget of Russia through the Federal Agency on Press and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation.[4][5]

-----------

State sponsored television...is CNN that bad? Are they funded by the federal budget via Congress? No. Does the government purchase paid for propaganda, yes...but at least they admit it and often make it seem obvious to the point where people actually turn against it.

"If you see something, say something." WTF does that mean?!!!

At least Wolf Blitzer isn't paid by Uncle Sam, Ted Turner signs his checks.

Rand Paul, for the Love of Jesus, please don't go anywhere near a RT Network studio.

As for the rest of us...

I think it is our own best interests to stay far away from Russia Today. They act like our friends, but they're really not.

SO RT is like ...

NPR with added eye candy. ie. the ladies

donvino

had to log in to upvote you op

not that rt always lies and cant ever be trusted but they are provacating the controlled opposition. theyve also found their niche to sell advertising. no matter what the news source its always best to fact check and scrutinize everything.

nuts to that

all media is biased.

you should never trust a story because there is a brand stamped on it. life just isn't that simple. sorry.

there's my rules for deprogramming the propaganda:

1) sell your tv. today. CL that shit and turn it into money (and i don't mean FRN's) or take your significant other out for a nice dinner.
2) start finding ALT news sources online.
3) after a while, you'll realize that they ALL have their own agenda. you'll be able to spot it almost immediately. that doesn't mean that it's not a valuable resource.. it just means you can never take off your critical thinking cap.
4) don't limit yourself to the type of news source you identify with. every now and then visit the communists, fascists, and even david ike lol if for no other reason, do it for entertainment. but it's important to get out of the habit of writing people and ideas off because someone else told you to. decide for yourself if what they are saying has any validity. sometimes, it does.
5) [extension of 4, really] if you ever find yourself reacting to statements almost unknowingly.. stop everything you're doing. and ask yourself why they are wrong. if your reason is mostly an emotional reaction, listen to them. even if it drives you insane. that reflex is the calling card of propaganda.

peace

"I think it is our own best interests to stay far away from RT"

I watch it everyday, it is by far the best news source on TV. Al Jazeera would be a close second. Anyone who tells the truth is our "friend".

Libertarians don't go around telling people what to think or what to watch.

Russia Today may seem more truthful to us in America.

Ask Russians what they think of Voice of America broadcast over the former Soviet states. Ask how they feel about Pravda & Russia Today here in the USA. Then & now. Opinions vary.

Reminds me of something Murray Rothbard once said...

...the only truth you ever get from a politician is what he says about his opponent during an election. ;-)

RT = VOA

RT is the same as Voice of America.

Different ownership. Russia today (formerly Pravda).

.... autonomous (Snide joke) non-profit organization[2][3] funded by (i.e., paid for by Russian taxes)the federal budget of Russia through the Federal Agency on Press and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation.

Similar to America's Public Broadcasting system (PBS). As I recall, PBS is only about 10% funded by US taxes.

Russia Today foreign editions are similar to CIA sponsored Voice of America. Format is a take-off on CNN (some might view RT as a parody of CNN):
===== 2005. Russia Today Starts Broadcasting in English. =====
Russia to start 24-hour TV news in English
BNE: Russia will soon start its own 24-hour English language TV news channel. Its name is Russia Today and it will be similar to CNN. The new channel will broadcast up-to-the-minute news of world and Russian affairs. Everything will be from a Russian viewpoint.

Russia Today will initially be broadcast in Russia, Europe, the USA and some C.I.S. and Asian countries. It is due to screen from as early as late summer. The launch may coincide with President Vladimir Putin’s speech to the U.N. in September. Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of Russia Today, said it was time to challenge CNN and the BBC. She said Russia Today will offer an alternative to the U.S.-British stranglehold on English-speaking world news coverage. She also said it would make interesting viewing. The channel is an arm of Russia’s tightly controlled state media. Many people have expressed doubts over how much independence journalists will have. Others fear the Kremlin will inject propaganda into the news stories. Many doubt whether non-Russians will want to watch Russian news in English.

Sorry Zoo, I can't agree...

No matter what the source is, there will always be a root-agenda. The agenda of ALL Amerikan media is to keep the public stupid, distracted and uninformed. If the agenda of RT is some anti-American rhetoric, then I say "good"! Calling a spade "a spade" isn't a bad thing; truth on TV is wonderful, even if you don't like what you're hearing. The foreign actions of American intervention are deplorable and RT is calling us out on it...Whatever their under-lying motive, I welcome the voice of the 3rd-person perspective offered by RT.
As for Rand, who gives a crap? I'm happy that he tried to give America a much-needed civics lesson by philibustering and bringing attention to the drone stuff, but he just hasn't won me over on anything...not by a long-shot.
