Great Song for Freedom Loving People

I was listening to this song and it literally gave me chills while listening to it. The song is in Spanish, but I have provided the translated lyrics below. It was made by Spanish singer Nino Bravo and it is about the killing of Peter Fechter, one of the first persons killed by Soviet guards while trying to cross to West Berlin. For anyone who appreciates a good song about the search for freedom, I highly recommend it. Even if you cannot understand a word of Spanish, I hope you can appreciate what the song tries to convey.

He is almost twenty years old and already
he is tired of dreaming,
but through border is his home,
his world, his city
He thinks that the barbed wire is just
a piece of metal,
something that can never stop
his desire to fly

Free,
like the sun at daybreak,
I am free like the sea…
…. like the bird that escaped from its prison
and can finally fly….
…. like the wind that picks up my cry
and my sorrow,
I walk incessantly,
in search for the truth
and I will finally learn what freedom is.

With his love as his flag he left
singing a song,
he was walking so happily that he didn’t hear
the voice that called him,
he was left lying on the ground,
smiling and not talking,
crimson flowers over his chest,
were emerging incessantly…

Free,
like the sun at daybreak,
I am free like the sea…
…. like the bird that escaped from its prison
and can finally fly….
…. like the wind that picks up my cry
and my sorrow,
I walk incessantly,
in search for the truth
and I will finally learn what freedom is.
