Does Anyone Receive Social Security Statements Anymore?...I Don't.

This post addresses a couple of Social Security issues.

It recently dawned on me that I no longer receive Social Security statements in the mail each year (like I used to).

Apparently you have to go online to get this info now - but they never informed Americans of this, and they should have.

Personally I don't think they WANT us to know - or even think about this stuff.

But everyone should keep an eye on what they've earned and paid into the system to make sure there are no errors which could affect your benefits one day.

In my opinion, Social Security is not an ENTITLEMENT, but rather an INSURANCE POLICY we've been forced to pay the premiums on all our working lives.

Thus we have every RIGHT to collect on it (if we live long enough to do so - which the government hopes we won't).

With that in mind here is...

This is an email going around apparently by an older woman receiving benifits. I find her thoughts to be appropriate on the nature of Social Security...

Remember, not only did you and I contribute to Social Security but your employer did, too. It totaled 15% of your income before taxes. If you averaged only $30K over your working life, that's close to $220,500.

Read that again. Did you see where the Government paid in one single penny? We are talking about the money you and your employer put in a Government bank to insure you and I that we would have a retirement check from the money we put in, not the Government.

Now they are calling the money we put in an entitlement when we reach the age to take it back. If you calculate the future invested value of $4,500 per year (yours & your employer's contribution) at a simple 5% interest (less than what the govt. pays on the money that it borrows), after 49 years of working you'd have $892,919.98.

If you took out only 3% per year, you'd receive $26,787.60 per year and it would last better than 30 years (until you're 95 if you retire at age 65) and that's with no interest paid on that final amount on deposit!

If you bought an annuity and it paid 4% per year, you'd have a lifetime income of $2,976.40 per month.

Another thing with me.... I have two deceased husbands who died in their 50's, (one was 51 and the other one was 59 before one percent of their social security could be drawn. I worked all my life and am drawing 100% on my own social security). Their S.S. money will never have one cent drawn from what they paid into S.S. all their lives.

Entitlement my foot, I paid cash for my social security insurance! Just because they borrowed the money for other government spending, doesn't make my benefits some kind of charity or handout!!

Remember Congressional benefits? --- free healthcare, outrageous retirement packages, 67 paid holidays, three weeks paid vacation, unlimited paid sick days.

Now that's welfare, and they have the nerve to call my social security retirement payments entitlements?

We're "broke" and we can't help our own Seniors, Veterans, Orphans, or Homeless. Yet in the last few months we have provided aid to Haiti , Chile and Turkey and Pakistan.

Literally, BILLIONS of DOLLARS!!! And they can't help our own citizens in New York and New Jersey !

Retired American seniors living on a 'fixed S.S. income' receive no additional federal aid nor do they get any financial breaks, while our government and religious organizations pour hundreds of billions of $$$ and tons of food to foreign countries!

They call Social Security and Medicare an entitlement even though most of us have been paying for it all our working lives, and now, when it's time for us to collect, the government is running out of money.

Why did the government borrow from it in the first place? It was supposed to be in a locked box, not part of the general fund."

In case this hasn't been answered (it looks like the responses

aren't answering the question asked here). SS quit sending annual statements to save money. They will send statements the last two years before you turn 60. You can also log in online to see your statement.

They Could Save Gov't Money by Sending 1 Statement Saying...

IOU Thousands of dollars that we'll never be able to pay out.

P.S. We're bankrupt!

Sometimes Reality Hurts

I feel for the lady in the e-mail that is circulating that the OP included. I feel for the Op as well.

The history of SSI (not that it matters in the least), Red D R passed it as a safety net. It was never intended to be a retirement system. A communist who was deported in the 50s sued for his insurance contributions. I don't think Ii need to tell anyone how that played out. That was the first Supreme court ruling that made clear your payments buy you no obligation of the govt.

It isn't her fault that the govt spent it?
What the heck was she doing all those years they were running deficits?
Did she think the math that she learned growing up wasn't real?
She thought her govt could spend far more than it made all those years that without somebody left holding the bag?

To bad she was politically distracted most of her life, well until she could see it directly impacted her and now she can write a letter.

Better find husband number three.

Public schools first, and now even private schools, indoctrination is so completely effective. We have adults, grown men and women, who literally believe that the Federal Govt of this USA is something more than a looting and killing machine.

Welcome to reality, I am sorry it turned out this way too. Looking to DC for any help is a mad cause. Hide your money, now!

Liberty = Responsibility

Why do you "feel for the OP?" That would be me. Do you think...

...I had any CHOICE but to pay into the Socialist Security System all my life?

You make it sound like it's something I CHOSE to do because I thought the government would take care of me in retirement.

As a matter of fact, several years ago I tried to opt out of Social Security System by asking them for all my money back and telling them they would never have to pay me anything.

But they said I was not allowed to do that. No surprise there but at least I tried.

Maybe you're not a U.S. citizen. Or maybe you somehow earn your luiving in such a way that you can bypass the Social Security System.

But most Americans are forced to pay into it all their working lives.

So unless you aren't one of them, you shouldn't feel any sorrier for me than you do for yourself because presumably you've been paying into it all your working life too.

So you're not schooling me in the least with your reply. I know full well the government is looting/killing machine.

The looting part was what my original post was all about.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

I didn't mean to school anyone

Just posted the comments that your post caused me to think. The killing and looting machine comment was meant as a general statement not directed at you or the Lady in the post. That being said your post endorsed the points of the letter so I guess the questions Iisted apply.

Oh yes - I am being taxed as well - at the max annually in regards to SSI. I will not be asking the murdering thief anything about anything.

Hide your money, now!

Liberty = Responsibility

Yet You Have the Balls

..To state:

"Better find husband number three. "

That, in itself, is an offensive, stupid "suggestion".

Not looking to "school" anyone, you say?
Well I will "school" you.

As a man, I am disgusted by your "mindset" that lends itself to viewing men as somebody's "wallet".
"Better find husband number three"???????
Maybe you'd do well to consider using what little intelligence you possess BEFORE making such arrogant, offensive statements.

"Beyond the blackened skyline, beyond the smoky rain, dreams never turned to ashes up until.........
...Everything CHANGED !!

Welcome to

a free society. People are allowed to say things that they think and you may find offensive.

Get over it.

Being "offended" by words is your choice. Actually your "as a man" qualifier is offensive to me, but that is my problem not yours.

Liberty = Responsibility

this site loses credibility with this nonsense....

1) SS did do a mail campaign saying the statements wouldn't be coming. Sorry you forgot or didn't read it and now think it's news.

2) SS isn't insurance. Learn the definition of insurance. No one agrees with you, certainly not economists: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCdgv7n9xCY

3) It's been an entitlement since the beginning. The first collector was entitled to way more than she ever contributed. Sorry again this is news to you.

4) What does it mean that the government hadn't "paid in a penny?" What does the govt pay into? I think you're very confused at the role of govt. It redistributes, it doesn't earn and pay.

5) It's not a savings account either, sorry again this is news to you. I'm confused how you think it's insurance and a savings account at the same time. Or, rather, I think you're very confused on the topic.

What is your major malfunction?

Could it be possible that the OP did not get that letter that you refer to?
I didn't.

Too much emphasis on semantics and splitting hairs on your part.
If you don't understand those terms, google will help you.

This post is entirely relevant, while your bashing of it is not.
Good Day to You!

"Beyond the blackened skyline, beyond the smoky rain, dreams never turned to ashes up until.........
...Everything CHANGED !!

Thanks Danton - I agree..."Too much emphasis on semantics...

...and splitting hairs." And thanks for backing me up on that point.

My point as the Original Poster was to shed light on the Social Security System and that we should keep an eye on the money they steal from us each paycheck.

Whatever you call it; insurance, tax, entitlement, even welfare, all that matters is that lots of the money you earn gets taken away and you may never see it - or much of it.

Just consider how many millions of people die and have died too early to have ever collected a penny of it back.

The whole system is theft, based on a plan for the payers to die off before becoming payees.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

TAZ - You said: "SS isn't insurance" but do you even know...

...what the acronym FICA stands for???

Maybe this will help - FICA: Federal Insurance Contributions Act

Do you see that word "INSURANCE" in there?

That's the government calling it INSURANCE in the very NAME of the program they created.

AND, the last statement I got in the mail was in April of 2010. With no further info from the S.S.A. that they were changing their process of getting us that information.

They simply did it and didn't inform the citizens they steal from.

Maybe it's YOUR nonsense which causes questions of credibility here.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

Can't believe the Pluses you got

Do you know the same government that according to you is allowed to change the definition of insurance, also defines you as a terrorist for the websites you go to.

I don't suppose you believe that definition.

Kind of surprised you read this site and haven't learned to ask question s yet.

What do you mean you can't believe the pluses I got? That's...

...because my posts might not quite be the BS you claim them to be.

How many pluses are you getting?

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

I'm still waiting for an intelligent response from the poster that defends the idea that SS is insurance. B/c the govt "says so" isn't an answer.

Lemme See Now....

Tax "Labeling" versus "Entitlement" Labeling and all the BS designed to divert one from the facts.

Fact: You pay "Taxes....You are "entitled" to "services".
Fact: You make an investment...you "expect" the promised "return".

Whether Insurance, Tax, or whatever label you care to toss around, if one pays into something there is an expected return for those funds, and an accountability of where the money went.
...........It's NOT rocket science.
I hope this helped you to understand.

Enough with the pseudo-intellectual posing.
It's not that complicated. PERIOD.

"Beyond the blackened skyline, beyond the smoky rain, dreams never turned to ashes up until.........
...Everything CHANGED !!

Neither your post nor the ignorant post from the OP offered anything insightful, new, or truthful.

"That's the government calling it INSURNACE"

Did you respond to my or Milton Freidman's facts about the definition of insurance with facts?

Government words honestly are credible to you?

Please. You know better. Save your breathe until you feel up to responding to the points.

its gone! forget about it.

The money was stolen long ago. Any thing paid out has to be take from current and future producers. Anyone who thought they would let the government take money and think they would get it back is a fool and deserves to loose everything.

R3ovlUTION charles walker 8322474577

This fool had the money taken from my paycheck.

I didn't get to vote on it and I had no choice but to pay it, as did my employer. I don't deserve to loose anything and I want every penny of it. Given that s.s. deductions are still manadatory, that would make you a fool too unless, you must work under the table, barter for everything you need, or have someone else paying your freight.

For $100, I will tell you how much money is in the Social Security Trust Fund.

Forcibly steal peoples'

Forcibly steal peoples' money, inflate the dollar and spend it now, then pay them back with devalued dollars 30 years later--assuming the person even makes it to retirement age. Brilliant. You can't make this shit up.

No more snail mail statements

Social Security Administration no longer sends out annual statements via snail mail. You must create an online account at ssa.gov to see your statement.

Social security has been a

Social security has been a scam from day one. The original calculations had most people never collecting a dime. The government courts ruled FICA a tax and social security a welfare program. Both subject to change whenever congress feels like changing them. There are no property rights to social security funds. It's a big hunk of your income going up in smoke every year. Remember, both halves of social security was taken out of your productivity, your labor. Even though the other half doesn't appear on your statements or check stubs it is still your earnings.

The social security 'trust fund' is spent ordnance spread across south east asia and the middle east amongst other wastes of government. They spent it. It's gone. It's a pile of IOUs from one wing of the government to another. How will they pay them? By taxing us again.

People decided to trust a bunch of people who by their very nature are largely con-men and thieves with a retirement fund. How else would it come out?

Excellent reply Tetra...

What FDR did in 1937 was another (big) nail in the coffin of personal liberty and responsibility.

The government didn't think we were smart or disciplined enough to prepare for our retirements.

But one important question I have is; Where is it written that anyone even has a RIGHT to retire at a certain age - chosen by some government agency???

Somewhere along the way we started believing we are entitled to stop working at an agreed upon age and recreate the rest of our lives.

That's all well and good if you can afford to do that, by having worked hard and saved wisely all your live.

But since Socialist Security steals so much money from each of us, we are FORCED to play by their rules and save the way the government says we're going to save.

I've paid nearly $90,000 into FICA and Medicare and I have NOT been a high earner. I'm 55 years-old and my best year ever was just around $50,000 a year, so based on that, the government has taken a high percentage of the money I've earned - which I COULD have invested and saved.

And if I didn't prepare for retirement, then I would just have to keep on working as long as needed.

But the government says everyone at age 62 can stop working and go play golf or go on cruises for the next few decades.

That is unless you die before collecting, which is a big-government's DREAM.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

Every two years?

I wonder if they changed it to every two years? I received one in 2010 and 2012, but not 2011. My wife received one in 2011, but not 2012.

AN Amen Bump!

The last sentence alone merits it. I haven't received one recently, either.

"Hence, naturally enough, my symbol for Hell is something like the bureaucracy of a police state or the office of a thoroughly nasty business concern." ~~C.S. Lewis
Love won! Deliverance from Tyranny is on the way! Col. 2:13-15

I Went 2 Years Without Receiving One Of These SS Statements

Then last May or June, I did get one in the mail.

I'm old enough to draw but I'm still working full time and haven't decided if i'm ever going to retire and draw.

I don't think I've ever believed paper money was going to last.

Men like Dr. Paul and my dad have confirmed my beliefs that only Gold, Silver are real money..

I heard on the radio yesterday that something like 90%...

...of Americans had now idea their payroll taxes went up 2% in January.

Hell, they had no idea we had a 2 year, 2% payroll tax reduction in our Socialist Security portion of their taxes for that matter.

The sheeples are too indoctrinated and ignorant to even question anything.

You mean to tell me you don't even know what's coming out of your paychecks???

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

I know.... but it hurts...

My job pays decently. I've had two raises since I started (End of 2010).

Due to a higher tax bracket, and increased taxes on multiple levels in 2013, I make the same as when I started.

Let us also include: Bills have gone up for rent, untilities, internet, gas, and groceries.

And the dollars I earn are being devalued...

I feel like I'm playing a game that is rigged against me...
but I'm not the only one out there going through this.

You are not

I am in the same boat. Earning more money than I ever have, but with taxes not getting any better, and an increase in my state income tax rate, dollars being devalued and other bills rising(healthcare, utilities, etc.) I can't keep up. I have no idea how anyone else is surviving. The game is rigged to make us all poor I am certain about that.
