Rand Paul Endorses Mitch McConnell in 2014 Senate Race, Won't Back Tea Party Challenge

Patrick Howley | March 27, 2013 | Daily Caller

The Daily Caller has learned that Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul is endorsing Sen. Mitch McConnell for re-election in 2014, ending speculation that Paul would back a tea party challenge to the Senate minority leader.

“Rand Paul has endorsed McConnell,” Jesse Benton, McConnell’s 2014 campaign manager, told The Daily Caller.

Benton, who has worked for both Rand Paul and his father, former Texas Rep. Ron Paul, is credited by insiders with brokering Paul’s support for McConnell.

I don't support McConnell, I

As Dr. Paul says don't compromise principles form coalitions.

Think about this: McConnell

Think about this: McConnell endorses Rand for President.

isn't McConnell

the least liked Republican?

ugh it doesn't matter

some of you get caught up in the stupidest things.

OK Bot

Nothing matters so quit.

I had a feeling he would.

I had a feeling he would. Welcome to politics.

Thats Hard to take

I understood Rands pro Israel stance as pure necessity politics, he would of been black balled from every mainstream news outlet and labeled a anti Semitic, I could barely swallow Rands position on mass illegal amnesty but I understand he would be labeled a racist.

BUT...Mitch McConnell two freaking years out!!!!!!! How can I support Rand now? Thats too far he dosent need him anymore, no no no no I wont tolerate this. Its not good politics its not anything but Jessie Benton.

Rove and the gang will run (repeat) will run a Latin Male in 2016 no matter what they say now, hold amnesty over the heads of the Latino voting block and we get 8 more years of the same neo con agenda.

No folks..unless and until Rand steps away from this wildly misguided move.. like they say in Shark Tank...for this reason Im out.

Go-Along to Get-Along with Rand

Representative Amash is more closely aligned with the real Dr. Paul, than the Senator from Kentucky.

It's pure politics

Here's a scenario for ya:

Rand makes these political moves all the way up to 2016, does a great job of walking a fine line playing the game.

Along the way he loses Purist Libertarians and Anarchists (< 5% of the likely voters).

But he gains 60% of the lukewarm Neo-Cons and 75% of Constitutional Conservatives.

So he wins the White House in 2016 after a massive financial collapse / currency devaluation and becomes one of the best pro-liberty pro-Constitutional presidents in US history and pulls us out of this mess.

Or ... Option #2

He goes the way of his dad.

He gets demonized, marginalized, demagogued and totally shut down and excluded from the process before he even gets started.

But as a consolation prize?

All you guys love him.

All 3% of you

Ding! Ding! Ding!

...we have a winner.

YOU, sir...

Need to stop making sense. This is, after all, the Daily Paul!

Seriously, though, kudos for a brilliant comment.

Option #3

Rand actually believes in forms of pro-Israel zionism and believes in the "realism" he has proclaimed about using a mix of periodic massive global military strikes and diplomacy in a long long war to rout out radical islam wherever it exists (see his Heritage Foundation speech).

And also that Rand genuinely disagrees with his dad when Rand suggests that the first step towards fiscal reform is to pay down the interest on the debt (which means the fiat dollar stays). Ron said the debt is fraudulent and mathematically impossible to pay back and that we MUST default on the debt.

In other words, Rand talks a lot vaguely about Liberty, but he's not so much for Peace (his realism precludes disassembling the empire in the name of a long long global war with islam) and not so much for Sound Money (he wants to "fix" the current fiat system -- someone planning on ditching the fiat dollar would not suggest paying down the interest on the debt)

Ahh yes: Option 3: The Bob Wenzel Option

There are some people convinced that Rand is actually and sincerely pro-Zionist at any cost - and anti-radical Islam with no awareness of the concept of blowback or the US fedgov's role in any of it.

They also assume that because he's not vehemently anti-Fed and openly calling for it's downfall, and doesn't get on talk shows promoting the gold standard, that he's weak on monetary policy and fails to understand the fundamentals of the situation.

They're convinced of both of these things and try to cut him down every chance they get, grasping at ever line in every speech or every media appearance he does.

But wait ... pop quiz:

If we had to pick only 2 issues that - if we got right down to the core - of what sunk Dr Paul's chances of every making tangible progress toward passing bills in Congress, making headway with corporate media, or getting support from the Establishment as a whole..

What would they be?

1) Ending the FED, pushing gold and

2) Pulling all the troops back from overseas and Non Interference doctrine (oops! I mean Isolationism)

Sunk him. Slam dunk.

I don't think in present company I actually need to spell out the reasons why in depth, do I. No.

These two things are at the foundations of the Establishment.

So .. they are watching him like hawks to see how he handles these two issues. He'd best prove he's *not* his dad on these two things. He'd better be damned convincing.

And I think he is doing a pretty good snow job on them so far. So good, that he's losing the people I can see that he's losing. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't getting private coaching on both of those things and *all* of it from you-know-who.

In fact I would be really surprised if he wasn't.

3% of the Daily Paul or 3% of the voting electorate?

Von, whom do you suggest we look to, if any, to run for Presz in 2016?

I would prefer Ron Paul but he's finished..

Maybe you should throw your hat in the ring. You might get lucky and get 1% of the vote..

Sorry if not clear

3% (totally intuitive guess off the top of my head) of the total likely voting public that are Hardcore Libertarians and Anarchists that he is already losing along the way. If that.

You know, lots of people here on the DP lol. People that hang on ever appearance, analyze it, churn it through mountains of understanding of economics and politics, hold him up against Mises and Rothbard etc

That's a very small segment of the total likely voting population.

Yes, I would totally vote for Rand. I'm all about Option 1 (again, sorry if not clear)

Second choice - or even first, depending: Judge Nap

egapele's picture

Sounds to me he wants Rand

he's just trying to talk sense to the people who see his endorsement of Romney as a sign of being a traitor.

Sure, among other things

Politics is a tough game. He needs to overcome the objections to his Dad .. from both the Establishment *and* the rank and file flock of braindead Neo-Cons and Conservatives.

That's a tall order. But I answered weebles above.

you HONESTLY think the main objection to Rand is the Romney endorsement? How can you honestly try to portray it like that when you are a frequent reader of Daily Paul?

You are conveniently leaving out objections over Rand's foreign policy, his being praised by zionists and neocons, his wanting to "fix" the current fiat dollar system by paying down the interest on the debt (which is fraudulent and mathematically untenable -- i.e. Rand doesn't believe in his father's sound money), etc etc..

Basically your tactic is to baselessly portray people who question Rand as one-dimensional irrational emotionally-driven morons. Perhaps that is an indirect ad hominem but it is an ad hominem none-the-less...

~wobbles but doesn't fall down~

"objections over Rand's foreign policy"

Legitimate objections there, but the magnitude of Rand's offenses is greatly exaggerated by his detractors.

"his being praised by zionists and neocons"

Because it would be better if he were attacked and marginalized?

"his wanting to "fix" the current fiat dollar system by paying down the interest on the debt"

In other words, he doesn't want to default on the debt. Yes, and that makes him sane. Do you appreciate what would happen if the US defaulted at this point? And when did Ron ever advocate default?

"Rand doesn't believe in his father's sound money"

That's untrue. Rand supports the exact same Audit the Fed bill as Ron supported, and supports a return to the gold standard. I might add, once we return to a gold standard, then a sovereign default becomes feasible - but not until then.

"Alas! I believe in the virtue of birds. And it only takes a feather for me to die laughing."

or option 3 The Neo-cons and

or option 3 The Neo-cons and press use him for the 2014 elections and drop him like a hot potato in 2016.

Or Option 4...

...where his establishment/mainstream tendencies become cemented and he ends up as just another cog in the wheel, but a cog who ensures a healthy portion of the liberty-movement fall in-line with things, because after all, it is Rand 'Paul' and his apple didn't fall far from the 'Ron-Tree', right?

Is there any memeber of the house or senate you would rather see elected to the white house fighting for our republic other than Rand Paul?

I don't!

Who was it who that had the guts to filibuster for 12 hours and 52 minutes in an atttempt to get pharoah to claify wheather the government can use weaponized drones to kill American citizens on American soil?

Rand Paul is going to do many, many other positive things that others in congress don't have the balls to do..

Ron Paul is proud of Rand and so am I..

As for me I will...

StandWithRon :)

~wobbles but doesn't fall down~

“Rand can’t stand David

“Rand can’t stand David [Adams],” Benton said. I was always one not to bash Jesse, but this is about the least classy thing he could have said. Not cool.

McConnell has started to come

McConnell has started to come around. He even voted for rand's budget and helped out a little with the filibuster. This could be a strategic move for both of them. An endorsement from the senate minority leader would not hurt rand's chances in 2016 either. We don't know what kind of a deal they have made.

Rand's budget...

combined with the fact that Rand wants to first pay down the interest on the debt as the road to fiscal reform means Rand is not interested in Ron's sound money and getting rid of fiat which means a WORLD OF HURT for you and I in the form of austerity (paying off the banks for their counterfeited money and global derivatives fraud while drastically cutting aid to the elderly and letting infrastructure decay even further) and things like in Cyprus where they are on the verge of taking 40% of all people's bank deposits...

~wobbles but doesn't fall down~

who here is from kentucky?

And has also now decided to vote for McConnell?

So who the EFF cares who Randall endorses?

so 2 DP members from kentucky

Have now changed course and decided to vote for McConnell? I guess I was wrong and this does matter

Not Ron Paul, not Rand Paul and none of us. If Rand’s support of Mitch McConnell today helps to advance the cause of liberty even a tiny fragment tomorrow, then that’s one tiny fragment that we didn’t have before.
