Rand Paul Endorses Mitch McConnell in 2014 Senate Race, Won't Back Tea Party Challenge

Patrick Howley | March 27, 2013 | Daily Caller

The Daily Caller has learned that Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul is endorsing Sen. Mitch McConnell for re-election in 2014, ending speculation that Paul would back a tea party challenge to the Senate minority leader.

“Rand Paul has endorsed McConnell,” Jesse Benton, McConnell’s 2014 campaign manager, told The Daily Caller.

Benton, who has worked for both Rand Paul and his father, former Texas Rep. Ron Paul, is credited by insiders with brokering Paul’s support for McConnell.

I would...

...submit that since Ol' Mitch is a globalist-collectivist who factually erodes liberty, Rand's endorsement of him actually helps to advance collectivism by assisting one of its champions.

Funny how that works, huh?

I Guess We'll See

Only time will tell.

If you want to work from outside the system and never support anyone with whom you do not agree entirely, 100% of the time, that’s your prerogative and I wish you well. But I am not about to condemn Rand Paul (or anyone else for that matter) for working from within the system. He has to deal with the reality of the current political situation and if he feels that supporting McConnell at this time is the right thing to do, then so be it.

Well, That Is a Real ...

...nice box you attempted to paint me into, but I guess that I will just do what I always do......

That being, if Rand or anyone else acts in a way that protects and defends individual liberty and/or limits government, I will applaud them for that individual act and support that action.

What I will not do, contrary to much of what I see involving those who adhere to the 'follower' phenomenon, is to give trust or blanket support for anyone, particularly anyone in government.

There will be no rationalizing, justifying or excuse-making for the acts of Rand Paul or anyone else. It is what it is, not what some wish that it were, or try to paint it as.

Dirt-simple stuff.

I also will keep calling things as I see them and attempting to get the glassy-eyed acolytes who are so firmly ensconced in the 'Cult of Rand', to take a step back and keep things in perspective.

By hey, that's just crazy Ol' El-Tee and his unreasonable and bizarre ways.

well we've already seen that

well we've already seen that Rand's endorsements have always been so-so....this shouldn't come as too big of a surprise no matter which side of the argument you're on...

Smart chess move.

Smart chess move.

Have you heard the one about the 2 Senators from Kentucky who went to the bar to have a drink? The older Senator said to the younger "I'll get us through the door, you rip em a new azz when we get in there." Wahka wahka wahka

Dates Back to the 2012 Campaign

This is just my opinion of course, but I believe you have to look at this with a few key events in perspective.

May 9, 2012: Fed Foe Ron Paul Breakfasts With Bernanke

May 14, 2012: Ron Paul Suspends Active Campaigning

June 7, 2012: Rand Paul endorses Mitt Romney

September 16, 2012: Former Paul Staffer Jesse Benton Joins Mitch McConnell

Ron looked like crap in his first interview after that meeting with Bernanke. Like 10x older and dark eyes. I lean towards a tough deal being made just before Ron stopped "actively campaigning" and that you are seeing the deal play out with Rand and State Media.

I also feel Ron's message has been extra dire for the economy since that meeting. Like Bernanke told him how its going to go down. And how it will be good for some and very bad for others.

And Bernanke knows Ron will tell everyone the truth and that no one will believe it.

Maybe I get a bit carried away...

Good move for Rand

He is playing the game.

The cause for liberty doesn’t involve a snot-nosed politician advancing himself. Think with your thinker, for goodness sake.

Rand Paul is compromising the crap out of America. I gave him the benefit of the doubt; I thought perhaps he was on a [rather flimsy] path toward learning. But if he stays on his current path, he will always be an enemy of liberty. You cannot serve opposing masters.

That's messed up. Mitch

That's messed up. Mitch didn't support him nor does he ow Mitch a damn thing... He had brownie points on the filibuster, and now he just took them back..

If you disagree with me on anything you are not a real libertarian...

I have no respect for Rand, sorry....

Rand you lost me a long time ago, no amount of filibustering will ever redeem yourself. Oh yeah, hey Jesse, there's a real hot place waiting for you, you scum.

Real Simple People

If you have the money, send it to the Tea Party Candidate in order to defeat McConnell. We got Rand elected, we can get another elected.

Rand Will Sell His Soul...

On his way to the 2016 presidency. And I am willing to gamble that he is playing THEIR GAME in order to get us into the White House, and Rand will show his TRUE COLORS once he is our president.

It is worth the risk folks.

i'm sure he'll take Hery

i'm sure he'll take Hery Kissinger as his vice president so the illuminati can keep him in check

Some questions to ponder

I'm a Libertarian just asking Republicans here some questions. No one really needs to reply with answers - they're just questions from an observers perspective - to think about.

Republicans are currently the minority in the Senate?

Mitch McConnell is currently Senate Minority Leader, the highest ranking Republican in the Senate?

I think it's safe to say most if not everybody on this site hopes to see Graham and McCain defeated. If that happens that's 2 Republican seats lost. Throw in McConnell and that's 3 seats. How many seats can Republicans afford to lose without lessening where Rand is currently positioned politically ie. to introduce bills, get them passed, win motions, gain committee appointments, etc.?

If McCain and Graham gets re-elected and McConnell doesn't, will Rands position in Washington be strengthened or weakened?

How about if McCain and Graham both lose re-election and McConnell wins re-election - strengthened or weakened?

Same scenario, McCain and Graham both lose re-election and McConnell wins re-election and Republicans gain majority control of the Senate - strengthened or weakened?

Would Rand Republicans in Kentucky working with McConnell Republicans in Kentucky be good PR to lay a foundation for uniting KY Republicans to deliver the state to Rand Paul overwhelmingly in the primary and general election of 2016? (aka a great way for KY Rand backers to make some new Republican friends before 2016.) Bonds are built in the trenches.

Seeems to me. that the man has a plan

Will it work, I doubt it..

will it matter, I doubt it even more...

After all everything is already in motion...

There will be no second chances no second whatever...

Certainly no elections worth mentioning.

Any one who can´t see this is delusional.

Let me spell it out for ya.. It ain't gonna happen, ever. !

But would count, but not count on Ron Pauls son, certainly never on voting record, n everything else is secondary!

They will steal money everywhere now that it is settled that there will be little or no resistance.

Your money in the bank is really their money in the bank, their as in the banks that lost it in the first place, you see... you loose... no matter what,,

they made bets, they took profits, but now that the bad bets made it home, you, taypayer pay, not the criminal who made the bet.

Is there Hope in Rand...Rand endorses Mitch McConnell

With respect to the integrity of the purists in the Liberty Movement, we have to pick our battles if we are going to move the ball down the field. After watching Freedom to Fascism, I spoke to my father who was than 30 year senior counsel to the House Republicans in WA State. I asked him about the constitutional legitimacy of the income tax. His response was simple yet powerful, “you may be right, but you can be right all the way to jail. You have to pick your battles, this is a losing battle and if pursued should be rethought tactically.” He suggested that a cost benefit should be considered and applied to what issues and battles are taken up. That does not mean avoiding fighting battles that cannot be won but weaken the opposition, build public support or provide a distraction etc.

If Sen. Rand Paul is endorsing Sen. Mitch McConnell for re-election in 2014 will you be able to work with Rand? I will work with almost anyone who will stand with me to educate people on personal responsibility and limited government. I have chosen not to concern myself with who anyone endorses; I don't make up my mind off endorsements. I draw the line at policy decisions, how people vote and furthermore the specifics behind the vote e.g. how close the vote was etc. If I am able to promote and work with Dennis Kucinich on issues and help to form a collation with Santorum’s delegates, I think I can find a way to work with almost anyone without compromising my integrity. I understand the political game and I hate it, I will not compromise my integrity. The question is do you understand politics, game theory and how things really work behind the scenes? You and I may differ on what compromising of integrity is, and that is what I am trying to focus on.

I will make endorsements of former Ron Paul caucus goers, alternates and delegates. I will also endorse people I personally know well and trust. While I would encourage everyone to probe and get to know as much as they can about whom they are voting for, I will ask you to blindly take my word for it and send money to my PAC, Putting People First. This is a PAC that will be used to help non partisan races from school boards to fire commissionaires to city council and everything else in between.

My endorsement is based off getting local Liberty candidates elected, Rand's endorsements are about getting a larger platform to educate and expose people to the message of Liberty. Rand is the number 1 National messenger for the cause whether you like it or not. I see it as our mission to support him and his efforts to achieve and maintain a national platform to espouse our views.

Locally our mission is to get as many Liberty candidates as possible into the public sphere, planning commissions and boards, councils etc. Cultivating candidates for the future is of the utmost importance. Please stand with me locally to help get our Liberty brothers and sisters into local offices and in a year or so, please consider supporting the cause of Liberty by getting behind Senator Rand Paul.

Matthew Edward Hayward

Rand's endorsement means nothing. We know where his heart is

As the Tea Party leader of KY said,"it actually hurts McConnel"
Plus, what alternative candidates were available?

right now, McConnell is an ally to Rand in the senate and two KY senators are getting along. Rand needs McConnell for however neocon he may be. McConnell is bolstering our establishment support for the 2016 election and maybe we can hope for an endorsement from McConnell in 2016.

Rand needs to endorse Amash when he runs for Senate, there we will see his true allegiance.

Stay strong, you ardent followers of the Good Doctor.

Wasted Credibility

No matter what Rand does to support establishment neo-cons, they will never return the favor. Any credibility Rand spends by supporting McConnell will never be repaid, except with treachery.

McConnell backed Rand's opponent, right?

When Rand ran for Senate so turnabout's fair play, right? Uh, wait a minute...thats doesn't seem right. That seems backwards. Go along to get along?

Well, I hope the guy running against McConnell blows his butt out of the Senate and then tells rand to go suck a big burrito!

God, I hate politicians that sell out for the "greater good". The "greater good" NEVER seems good for the people.

Benton is full of it and I

Benton is full of it and I hope he has to eat those words. I'll believe it when I see a video of Rand saying it himself.

Blessings )o(

I hope your right

I think its possible after his emails and phones melt down tonight Rand does a 180 and walks this back.

“In the beginning of change, the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for it costs nothing to be a patriot.”

I hope

he's just "playing along" ready to hit establishment once he becomes president.

Damnit Rand...

everytime I start to like you again.... damnit. damnit.

Isaiah 2:4
And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

That Jesse Benton

is sure a nasty piece of work.

Leges sine moribus vanae

Jesse Benton is...

Jesse Benton is the nastiest piece of CIA trash on the face of the planet. I am so sick of people saying, "but he's related to Ron Paul"... no he's not, he married the guy's grandchild... he's a CIA operative. He's the reason the campaigns were thwarted, he's the reason Ron Paul made it into the Bruno movie, he's the one who has teased and taunted Ron Paul supporters openly and let us know quite bluntly what he thinks about us.... He's such a piece of scum it makes me nauseuous just thinking about my run-ins with him....

While I feel Randall has gotten himself into a sticky situation... I CANNOT EVER forgive some of the public positions he's taken lately. He's a neo-con... he's a statist... he's not on our side. I really can't wait for him to let you all down again... it's coming...

im willing to give randall

The benefit of the doubt. I'm willing to settle for someone who is mostly alright. We have to conaider that he represents kentucky...

But if he breaks my heart I think I will give up on liberty

jrd3820's picture

Why would you give up on liberty if Rand breaks your heart?

Liberty is not about a single politician. Support whoever you want, but liberty is much bigger than Rand Paul. It's even bigger than Ron Paul. If a politician breaks your heart as you put it, give up on the politician, but never give up on liberty.

because liberty is running out of time

Before turning back becomes impossible

And its bad for my health to keep up with the news as I usually get upset
