Rand Paul Endorses Mitch McConnell in 2014 Senate Race, Won't Back Tea Party Challenge

Patrick Howley | March 27, 2013 | Daily Caller

The Daily Caller has learned that Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul is endorsing Sen. Mitch McConnell for re-election in 2014, ending speculation that Paul would back a tea party challenge to the Senate minority leader.

“Rand Paul has endorsed McConnell,” Jesse Benton, McConnell’s 2014 campaign manager, told The Daily Caller.

Benton, who has worked for both Rand Paul and his father, former Texas Rep. Ron Paul, is credited by insiders with brokering Paul’s support for McConnell.

It makes sense to me. As

It makes sense to me. As loathsome as McConnell may be, he was one of the first to support Rand in his election. I was surprised at the time, but he most certainly supported Rand, and deserves Rand to support him, in turn. This is not selling out or whatever, it just makes sense.

Are you kidding? McConnell

Are you kidding? McConnell fought us tooth and nail in the primary. He only supported us after we whipped his neocon butt.

That's right!

Exactly.

Political move to get the

Political move to get the establishment republicans behind him for 2016.

Rand Paul does some good or is he just lucky

Rand Paul got lucky on the Drone stuff..won a lot of people over.
But Mich is a killer!
So did Rand take so stupid pills. Or is he just a man without principles?
McConnell:Still wants to pretend. the war makes sense when the USA is bleeding money and nothing about the war worked. UNLESS YOUR A CROOK.
McConnell voted for the initial War in Iraq, has supported the "troop surge", and opposed a timetable for withdrawal from the country. McConnell remains one of the strongest supporters of the Iraq War, which he considers a central part of the War on Terrorism. He holds the view that the violence in Iraq is perpetrated primarily by al-Qaeda and other international jihadists who would otherwise be engaged in terrorist actions within the United States. In an interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper on January 10, 2007 (after President Bush's announcement of an escalation in troop levels in Iraq), McConnell claimed that the war in Iraq was a success because it had prevented terrorist attacks in the U.S. since the September 11 attacks. He warned that if the United States withdrew from Iraq, "the terrorists would come after us where we live."

The only thing I can figure is that Rand's base is the partisan

right wing of the tea party. I thought Rand was elected in Kentucky mainly due to tea party support, yet he is going against his base, and their chosen candidate? What happens if he disenfranchises his supporters in Kentucky, and looses the 2016 run for the White house? Is this Liberty's last hope risking it all to support McConnell?

While I do stand with Rand, I do not see this as advantageous if his base is supplying a candidate to replace McConnell, is it smart to go against them and their money, hard earned money at that? Seems dangerous to go against your base and risk loosing one of the only true freedom fighters we have in Washington today?

Perhaps Rand has seen the numbers and feels comfortable dissing the tea party who put him into office, and perhaps he sees that the tea party of today is the right wing status quo, who knows. It does make one wonder though, if a deal is made so easily whilst he is a senator, what will happen when Washington's real owners come in to "have a talk" with Rand for the 2016 run, and give him the globalist playbook?
Will he compromise then as well?

All questions that can only be answered in time, but certainly ones to ponder as he goes all in to play nice with those that have worked very hard to enslave the people, and represent all that we despise.

Always remember:

Mitch McConnell is every bit as much of a tool as Mitt Romney is (or Jeb Bush for that matter).

If these are the kind of people that Rand Paul chooses to surround himself with, then just what kind of President would he be?

He would have a Cabinet, and a Vice-President with all the same old GOP-Neocon-Austerity-WallStreeters faces. The same crowd in power. The same faces mean no change.

The New World Order just dressed-up in a little "Libertarian" rhetoric is not any better than The New World Order just dressed-up in a little (insincere) "Progressive" rhetoric.

And if you notice, you never see Rand Paul calling for ending the Federal Reserve System.....

wrong

Okay, but......

He also said that he didn't see it as a "front burner" issue for even the Tea Party movement.

He did frame the issue correctly, when he said: (paraphrasing) why can't we just print the money through the U.S. Treasury, rather than have to get it printed through Goldman Sachs with added loan debt cost charged to Taxpayers?

Private Central Banks are a profiteering scheme (and also a clandestine one, with huge misallocations going into the pockets of Globalists) which robs from the people, and enriches private Bankers.

Public Sovereign currency (from the U.S. Treasury) has no profiteering middle-man, and there is public transparency.

It is nice that he understands the issue, but I don't see Rand really out there leading the fight for such a major shakeup, and pushing the issue.

Even a strong President would have to really want reform urgently (and be prepared to go through some serious hell) to ever make it happen.

There is only one thing for certain here

and that is Benton counting on a large pay day. Any one who is gullible enough to contribute to any thing this pick pocket is involved in deserves to be fleeced.

There are no politicians or bankers in foxholes.

Why doesn't

McConnell just freakin retire? He's made millions off of us already. He can retire and live comfortable. What is with being a senator that they want to hang on forever?
Rand Paul's backing of this scumbag sux.
Isn't Lindsey Graham up again in 2014? That is a RINO I would love see defeated. Is there any one challenging this maggot?

It's time! Rand Paul 2016!

"Truth, Justice, and the American Way!"

Challenge

Rand Paul got elected by using his father's wide grassroots movement. Regardless of who Senator Paul endorses, and regardless of whether he is wholeheartedly behind that endorsement; the power lies with us at the grassroots level. We have shown time and again we have the power to win at the state & district level.

I suggest we ignore Rand Paul's playing nice with the party and drum up massive support for McConnell's challenger. If we are successful it would rid us of McConnell. And it would leave Rand Paul shrugging his shoulders and telling McConnell, "I did my best, I endorsed you;" and yet still looking squarely at 2016 as GOP front runner.

I don't see this as betrayal by Rand, I understand he is playing the game and positioning himself for a 2016 nomination. What we must realize is we don't have to play along, we can continue to stand on principle and throw our massive support behind whomever we choose.

I agree, let's support the

I agree, let's support the tea party challenger and throw a ton of money bombs that whip Benton and the rest of the neocons into submission.

Agreed

Power is in grassroots activism, if we've learned nothing else its that we need to take it to the streets, and cover the net with our ideas and voices.

I'm not interested in Rand, I will support the good things he does, and condemn the bad...

Betrayed by Rand

I think you made an interesting point that I hear people around me often talk about: how could Rand endorse this or that. Politics is a vicious game and Rand could easily be unwoven with the stating a very controversial position or taking a hard stand against the base. I hope Mitch gets the boot, no matter who Rand endorses. I think most of us here have it figured out that we better play the game better than the neocons do, or else we are stuck. Alienating people who wouldn't otherwise support a libertarian conservative doesn't help our cause. If Rand makes it to the White House (I think he will), we'll have to see if his actions match his rhetoric. Personally, I have faith in the guy and considering he is his father's son.

God bless Texas and these United States.

Doesn't mean a thing. I mean,

Doesn't mean a thing. I mean, to be sure, it is another sellout by daddy's little conman, but on this website, where people aren't so principled, this will be forgotten before the end of next week.

haters gonna hate

Just how Sheriff Mack might see it from his point of view. Ron Paul never ended up giving an endorsement to the Tea Party candidate, despite sharing similar views. Many in the Liberty movement claim Lamar Smith is a “NeoCon” and that Sheriff Mack is a true “Liberty Candidate”. Lamar Smith defeated Sheriff Mack 76% to 14% in last night’s Congressional race in Texas.

In December of 2009, Ron Paul sent his supporters a letter encouraging them to support Lamar Smith

a question

Tell me, Turtleman's jowly power-slut,
Tell me, while your soul succumbs to rot,
Tell me, before the water gets too hot,
How many frogs can fit into Rand's pot?

Another Reason Why ...

I like the Daily Paul. We are a cornucopia of free market econophiles, liberty diehards, engineers of innovation, scholars, video artists and poets who enjoy exposing the elitists and their ill-contrived machinations to rule over the people. We are so good we could be our own comic book, as popular as the League of Justice.

No other website has what we all share; a burning love for freedom!

Nice Poem

I love your poem. It is soooooooooo true.

Cmon everybody..

Im not a big McConnell fan, but the Senate Minority leader has essentially tied himself to Rand Paul for his own political well-being. He even signed on for industrial hemp!

McConnell is the minority leader, and he's essentially bowed to Rand Paul and the liberty movement, begging for mercy! Hopefully, McConnell will retire in a few years and then Thomas Massie can become the Junior Senator from Kentucky!

We will make sure McConnell

We will make sure McConnell is forced to retire by supporting the opposite candidate.

Haters going to Hate

Play the game Rand! I don't like McConnell and I don't like Benton but go Rand go to 2016!

What game?

There is no game going on.

Lil' Rand...

...could endorse and support Obama, McCain, Lyndsy Graham, Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer, or anyone else and the Acolytes of The 'Cult of Rand' would turn out in droves with wide glassy-eyes, to rationalize, justify and 'explain' it away.

This is no different in this than the republican faithful do for their party and their chosen man, or than the democrat faithful do for theirs, other than that this is about a purported liberty movement and 'a man' named 'Paul'.

Let the down voting commence.

Ron Did the same shit

Ron Endorsed Lamar Smith and every other NEOCON Texas Incumbant politician, because that was the deal he made with the party....

Im assuming Rand did the same
