Rand Paul Endorses Mitch McConnell in 2014 Senate Race, Won't Back Tea Party Challenge

Patrick Howley | March 27, 2013 | Daily Caller

The Daily Caller has learned that Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul is endorsing Sen. Mitch McConnell for re-election in 2014, ending speculation that Paul would back a tea party challenge to the Senate minority leader.

“Rand Paul has endorsed McConnell,” Jesse Benton, McConnell’s 2014 campaign manager, told The Daily Caller.

Benton, who has worked for both Rand Paul and his father, former Texas Rep. Ron Paul, is credited by insiders with brokering Paul’s support for McConnell.

...that made him just as wrong for doing so.

The Paul's are not gods, or divine. They can be wrong and they certainly are capable of ill intent or selfish motives, just like 'normal' people.

If people cannot have the basic assessment skills to discern these things, coupled with the intellectual honesty and the integrity to call things as they are, regardless of its acceptance or popularity, then there will be no restoration of the Republic.

It really is that simple.

The ideals the elder Paul

The ideals the elder Paul gave them, the younger Paul is taking away.

The Paul's are not Gods? What is this blasphemy you speak? Do you prefer to be chased out of town by an angry mob carrying torches of fire or by a rabid pack of wild dogs?

I Figured it Would...

LOL...Thanks for the laugh, I needed it today.

indeed he did

endorsements are nearly irrelevant, and McConnell (i dont believe) has wen out of his way to not cross Rand Paul. Rand said he would support McConnell ever since he won the primary. Trust me, Im much more concerned about the Senators cozy relationships with Hannity and Beck- who will turn on him any day now- than I am about intra-party endorsements.

Come on...Benton is a turd in my book.

Does Rand Not...

...have any say in this? Is he being forced?

Perhaps the same 'shadowy forces' that purportedly threatened Ron have now threatened Rand and/or his family.....yeah, that's it...Rand wouldn't do this unless he was nobly protecting an innocent.

Benton is involved?

hmmm...... well can't say that I am all that surprised.

Instead of Rand trying to win back some of the principled people that helped him get to where he is, he is going to compromise more over to the establishment. Great....

At least Mitch is not as disgusting as many of the other establishment clowns. He still is disgusting though.

I don't disagree with rand on this

McConnell is helping us legalize hemp In Kentucky he stood up for Rand Paul and he Stood up for Ron Paul.
We are not about political party's we are about liberty.
Out goal is to show by example how to lead and how to utilize human liberty.
Neocons , progressives , ECT.. What the oligarchies fear is when their own lapdogs realize that liberty is popular they will follow a new leader and may even start to lead themselves.
Our goal is not to compromise and get them to come to us. We will not budge because we represent natural law and human life is at the top of the system not greed and wealth.
When everybody else jumps into to movement that what they call critical mass.

ron Paul quote "he is one of my closest friends in washington"

i like Senator McConnell too, specifically because even Ron Paul says "he is one of my closest friends in washington"

see video at 2:30, Ron Paul talks about him

Who is the tea party candidate

Is it someone awesome or just one of the pro-war regulars who passingly mentions the debt?

Old News Really

He said he would do this a while ago. Ron endorsed NeoCon establishment types in Texas too, even when there were good liberty challenges to their seats. I think the Pauls have a deal with the Republican Party of their state that they will not back challenges to encumbants. At least I know this was true for Ron Paul. I would assume Rand too...

Ahh yes..

Mr. Brenton, we meet again. If there's a snake in the grass it's Brenton.

Cool. We need a few on our side.

Political Strategy? Selling Out? Or Both?

Because I am not closely following the dirt on Benton, let me ask you guys the following questions:

Is it possible that Benton is not out for himself but is still on our side; only working within the neocon camp to turn on them in the end like a sleeper agent?

Is it possible that Pig-Rot-McConnell will now be indebted to Rand Paul in the senate? A "he owes me one" kinda thing. This would be so only if the McConnell race is close, if not then it doesn't matter i guess.

I guess its possible but not probable. Any thoughts?

What I see is that Rand is fighting for freedom on the establishments terms, while his father, Ron Paul, fights for freedom openly, loudly, and boldly. That is why I like Ron ten times more than Rand because you can trust him to be all in.

Perhaps his endorsement of McConnell

will have the same result as his endorsement of Romney, then Rand becomes senior senator from KY.

Key words in your post: "fighting for freedom"

Rand appears to be doing a good job.

Right on. He is the best ally

Right on. He is the best ally liberty has in the Senate for sure.

Can't wait for the spin on this one...

Let me guess, it's all part of some super secret stealth strategy?

Once again Rand refuses....

... to trash his political career (and the only chance for the American people to have a real choice in 2016) just to prove he is a "libertarian".

Even if a "tea party" candidate had a slim chance at winning against McConnell (something I highly doubt) it wouldn't be worth the gamble.

The establishment GOP leaders already are looking for ANY excuse to blackball Rand. Rand shouldn't make it easy for them.

The Virtual Conspiracy

It's true

Rand has obviously made commitments in order to build pathways in Washington. This is the path he has chosen and I think he will continue to move forward politically even when it makes him queasy. He's chosen a different path than his father with the same goals in mind. The fact is that we need more of us in there trying whatever we can and seeing what works. This enormous government has been growing and growing and we have had some successes but the snow ball is still rolling downhill. It's going to take a gigantic push with many sets of hands to stop it and then turn it and we need insiders rather than people who will stand in front of it and scream no, only to be pummeled.

Right On spacehabitats!

Seems to me Rand proves he's a "libertarian" repeatedly by being his own man, making his own decisions, and not worrying about what a collective that calls itself "LIBERTARIAN" thinks.

Kathleen G.'s picture

You nailed it, spacehabitats

The only people paying attention to this at this point in the game are:

• Paid operatives (trolls) funded by the Obama Regime and the Priebus Regime with a mandate to divide and conquer the Liberty vote (see below?)
• "Inside Baseball" liberty activists
• A handful of Establishment GOP regime members looking for reasons to sabotage anyone who isn't on their approved Neocon list of candidates

In other words, actual liberty voters are already outnumbered and under attack from both sides, which is why I refuse to take the Establishment's bait.

I will not allow trolls or Reince Priebus to divide me from the best possible GOP presidential candidate (Rand Paul) or conquer me (dishearten me to the point of giving up).

While I'm not too excited by McConnell

Actually he reminds me of the slow talking droopy joweled disney cartoon dog that was always supposed to be about a half-wit. On the other hand, McConnell has been coming our way on a lot of issues. At this point I believe Rand more than has his ear, and that there is a strong chance McConnell can be "saved" for liberty though he may never be a leader. At any rate, he is not a John McCain or Lindsey Grahm type Neocon, and his leadership position is a very valuable ally to have. With McConnel behind him Rand may not need our money bombs, he'll get the inside funding instead, which of course doubles his fundraising power while reducing the insider dollars someone else will ahve to run against him. So, while I am not excited by this, I see where he is coming from and what he is trying to do. If he is successful it will ahve been a master stroke, if'll be the end. It's a gamble Rand has to make though, or he'll end up as policially effective as his father was i.e. ignored, hated, and almost hounded out of the party.

It's all about the establishment money, which dwarfs our money. The only way Rand will win the '16 nod is to get some of that pie.

Shrewd move by Rand.

So what!

If you live in Kentucky just don't follow Rand Paul's endorsement. Just don't vote for McConnell.

All the Rand Paul supporters in Kentucky should start a campaign: "I stand with Rand, but never with Mitch, even if Rand suggests me to!!!"
