It disgusts me when people

It disgusts me when people downvote posts that are simply facts.

Unapproved facts.

It tells you everything about the Mormon religion right there.

If it is, you are simply being a liar to try to conceal it.

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.

no. it is not.

I have been a member of the Church for 16 years. I have served a mission. I go to the temple regularly. I have no idea where you got this and not even sure what it means or what you think it means. It doesn't even make sense.

Do you think this is something we "perform"? Why would we? What does it even mean?

Wiegh the Evidence

I don't really " Bash " the Mormans, but they follow the same path as the Muslims in claiming there was more to the story after the Bible.

The only problem is people like Mohamed and Joe Smith had no eyewitnesses to their encounters with God. There is no evidence to believe what they said. This seems nothing like the Bible story of God at all since in the Bible there are numerous eyewitness to Jesus by both believers and non believers, both Jews and Gentiles. Why would God suddenly change the story and only reveal himself to one person at a later date and in contradiction to the New Testament?

There were many people who shared sacred encounters with God and angels with Joseph Smith. We have their written testimonies. If you open one of the common blue copies of the Book of Mormon you can read 3 witness who were shown the plates by an angel and 11 witnesses who were shown the plates by Joseph Smith. You may choose not to believe there testimony. But they are indeed witnesses and they gave a signed declaration.

How did a man living in the 19th century...

translate a book in 16th Century English? When in fact, Jesus did not speak in 16th Century verbiage. Perhaps, the KJV which was the readily available Bible in J.Dawg's day, mistakenly was used to forge a counterfeit book?

Seriously, I'm not trying to fight here, however this is a huge glaring mark of a forgery.

Let me know.

EX mormon,

God has appeared to

God has appeared to individuals at various times in the Bible without tons of public observers. God also appears in the Book of Mormon at times to many people, thus there are many witnesses. Your argument doesn't make much sense to me.

In any event, it's Mormons and not Mormans. It's Joseph Smith and not Joe Smith. I don't care if you disagree with my religion, but at least show it some modicum of respect. I don't think that's too much to ask for.

Who do you worship?

Your church or Jesus?

Neither currently.

Neither currently.

Get bashed on a daily basis. I can't even watch a movie now a days with out them trying to demonize Christians. I don't dislike Mormons though. I think people mistaken fake Christians to real ones. We are not taught to hate. I think people are angry because Romney took away what we had. "RON PAUL". And Romney was a Mormon so people are lashing out on Mormons.

Yeah. I don't understand why

Yeah. I don't understand why they single out that religion, when it seems that any religion they disagree with would be non-Christian by their narrow definition. I also don't see why this is a good forum for religious discussion.

You know that person who mostly agrees with me politically because they regularly post on the same political website that I do? Yeah. Well, because they believe in the same God that I do, but they do it a little differently, I'd like to alienate them.

Yeah. Cause that makes sense. This movement can't afford to push out large groups of people because some dogmatic zealots aren't willing to get along with others.

i agree

The point of liberty is that people are free to worship and live how they choose, right?

How can you say you love liberty if you don't support people's right to their own beliefs? You can positively believe your own things. You can believe them to be wrong and talk about why.

But hating them? That sounds like someone who doesn't really love liberty as much as they pretent to.

I get sick of the everything bashing

i like our atheists too. i like us all and i really appreciate how my tradition and spirituality seems to be accepted. Or at least tolerated.

I can't see doing what we're doing without all of us.

Be brave, be brave, the Myan pilot needs no aeroplane.

I agree with Penn Jillette

I want people to speak out about what they believe. I want them to argue with and proselytize adults. But there is a time and place. This is not the place.

Need to get you in touch with

Need to get you in touch with a very dear friend of mine who left the Mormon Church last year. He was very high in the Mormon church. He found the real Jesus. His last name is Smith. Had a brother who was an all American tight end at BYU. Had another brother who was very good at BYU and a nose guard. If you want to know the truth I will get you in touch with him.

Praise The Lord

Seriously, I was there as well. Thank God I read the Bible!

I have a friend

who is very high in the Mormon church. I mean, way, way up there. He "found" atheism decades ago. He just doesn't tell anyone he does not trust completely. He devotes many hours a week to helping others.

If you "went around saying Baptists are going to hell" you'd be

If you "went around saying Baptists are going to hell" you'd be telling the truth.

Most baptists get their religion from something that looks more like TV church with Tammy Fay these days that what is depicted by Christ and the disciples in the bible.

You don't get to heaven as a christian by joining a particular (false) denomination. Your faith, if you have any, comes from seeking the Father and accepting Christ through scripture.

I agree, most baptists and mormons are going to hell because they know Him not.

if you go around saying anyone is going to hell

You are pretty much admitting you do not truly believe in the gospel of Christ.

What that statement means is- I have appointed myself to be judge over someone else's soul and although I don't know the future, nor do I have a perfect understanding of the present nor the past, I can decide the nature of that person's soul and their past, current, and future relationship with God.

You are also saying- I do not believe Christ can redeem that person- therefore they are going to Hell. You are also saying to a certain extent, that you WANT them to go to Hell.

That is the most unChristian position I can possibly imagine taking.

Jesus Wants You To Worship Him Not A Religion!

"What that statement means is- I have appointed myself to be judge over someone else's soul and although I don't know the future, nor do I have a perfect understanding of the present nor the past, I can decide the nature of that person's soul and their past, current, and future relationship with God."

What that statement means is- if you continue to worship a false God, in a false religion you will go to Hell. That is called accountability. The truth hurts but it is necessary. The Word doesn't lie. If you repent for your sins and accept Jesus as your Savior you are going to Heaven. If you believe in religion and not Jesus you are going to Hell. Plain and simple.

Ex Mormon,

P.S. Who is your God? Your church or Christ?

Re: "What if we went around saying Baptists are going to hell, because they are not real Christans, or non denominations are not real Christians?"

Didn't Joseph Smith the founder of Mormonism teach that all of the creeds of Christianity are abominations, and that none of the Christian churches of his day were to be joined?

I don't know of anybody who hates Mormons, but a lot of Mormons seem to think that if you offer an argument in opposition to their views, that you are hating them and that you are divisive. Why aren't Mormons ok with people saying why they disagree with them or saying why they think Mormon religion isn't theologically compatible with theirs? Shouldn't open dialog be embraced and engaged?

i'm not sure where you got the idea

that Mormons don't embrace open dialog. We love talking to people about our beliefs, when it's a positive, productive conversation, even when people completely disagree. What do you think a mission is all about? Open dialog.

I don't think people hate Mormons because they disagree with us. I do think there are people who hate Mormons. Just like there are people who hate Democrats, Republicans, Mexicans, children, Muslims, Communists, Baptists, Catholics, white people, Americans.

There are hateful people. No point denying it. I'm not one to whine about it when I'm the recipient because it doesn't do much good. But when someone does complain about it, it might be true. Just because you don't see it or experience it doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Not all of them..

I said "a lot of Mormons" don't embrace open dialog, not all Mormons; they are people like any of us, but some kind of Mormon culture affects some more than others. There are surely some open to dialog otherwise there wouldn't be so many ex-Mormons resulting from people open to questioning their faith, and there are some who are open and hold to their beliefs as well. But even Mormon missionaries are selective in where they spend their time. I don't know how many times friends and I have stumped some and then they never came back. If they get stumped, they think it's no longer a "positive, productive conversation". If they feel they are making progress in converting someone, then they like to talk, but when they aren't doing so well, or the more taboo portions of Mormon history are discussed, they tend to get dodgy. I know some Mormons who will talk about almost anything but their religious beliefs. I'd like to see the Mormon Prophet officially representing the Mormon church engage in public moderated debate with Christian theologians and apologists.
