Cash on hand for the Paul campaign is $5,300,000. WHAT?

Anyone have a breakdown of where it went?

spending too much - are you for real?

good to see the positive feedback about spending.

dr. paul is a brilliant man and he knows EXACTLY what he is doing.
the staff is doing the best they possibly can with what they have and i applaud them.
i know in my heart that the money is well spent and will pay off big time.
there is a plan and it's gonna be a winner!

everyone donate $100 on november 5th!
$10 million in one day - now THAT would be something!

Ron Paul is My President

frugal on purpose

He did it on purpose on Q2 - That way he can get the press attention (for much cheaper I might add). And his plan worked. Simple as that. He had more money that Mcain and that bought him so much attention.

The good doc is smarter than you think. Now I understand why you are upset but fret not - the spending frenzy is about to begin.

That's what it's for

It's not for looking at, the man is running for President!

A better question.

Is that all he spent? He should have spent more. But Ron Paul is frugal. I trust him with my last alleged dollar.
Don't complain when Ron Paul only spends 2 million. That 2 mil.was well spent.
Ron Paul said he would rather be at home with his grandchildren than on the campaign trail. Who wouldn't. And the crap he has to put up with. He is making quite the sacrifice. I would allow him to spend $10000 out of each million on drugs and hookers if he wanted to because of what he is up against and what he is doing for America and the entire world. And perhaps the galaxy.
Bite your tongue. Never complain about the way Ron Paul is spending the money you gave to his campaign. I am more than sure it is being used to promote liberty. There is no one else you can trust like you can trust Mr. Paul. Not even the bank(s). I would bet money, real or fiat, that Ron Paul has never stolen anything in his entire life. Not even a miniature raspberry marshmallow.
My dad was a Ron Paul supporter. My dad was a smart man.
The grassy knoll is everywhere Ron Paul goes.
I am going to donate today just because of this article.

Go Ron Paul!

none are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free.

This sounds like a bullshit post again.....

Money is for spending...period....
I think (like I'm sure everyone else here) that NO ONE ON EARTH is better trusted to spend his money more wisely than our great Dr. Paul.

spend, spend, spend, spend, spend, spend away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree

Most probably the guy that posted this is not a donor. WTF!!!! I am not rich, yet I donate more than 100 dolars. Come on people step to the plate and give some mullah!

Advertising Probably Bought

Some t.v. and radio ads have probably already been made and paid for. The campaign is now just waiting for the best time to air them.

$5,000 on shoe polish for car window signage!

c'mon people, stop worrying about paul's money allocation & invest $2 on car polish & hit every willing car at all of your future meetups! tag every willing driver who responds to dr. paul's vision! car windows people! spread the message while you commute!

What did you expect?

I'd be really upset if he didn't spend the money. We aren't donating to his retirement fund here. The goal is to SPEND the money in order to get more people to vote for him.

The whole point...

Is to get votes. That comes about through awareness and education. Best way to spread the message? Mainstream media. - Advertising. Increased base = increased support = increased donations.

“The most powerful force in the universe is compound interest”
Albert Einstein

Compound interest: The ability of an asset to generate earnings, which are then reinvested in order to generate their own earnings. In other words, compounding refers to generating earnings from previous earnings.

You fken know it... Total trust in the man & what he spends the $ on. Keep building the baseeeeee!

Spend it all

I wish the campaign would spend it all on advertising. The more people find out about him, the more donations will come in.

Today, I saw on the one of the Paul sites that $500,000 is being spent on a radio advertisement blitz. The ad is really good!

Spend the money Dr. Paul!

2 million is nothing.. look at how much all the others have spent..!!! get a grip!

wolfe's picture

there is no debate.

I gave a man that I trusted money to support ideas that I believe in. Period. No one should be second guessing the campaign or wondering where the money went. It went to spread the message, and it has worked.

I honestly find this thread embarrassing and wish it would go away. The FEC reports are interesting but I didn't need to read the reports to know the money was spent wisely.

The Philosophy Of Liberty -

Re: Spending Concerns? Consider the Other Campaigns

Nothing more frugal than the Paul campaign.

Benito spent $13.3 million in Q4; raised $10.2 million
CFReddie spent $5.4 billion; Raised $9.5 million
Hucky spent $800K; raised $1 million
McCain spent $5.4 million; raised $5.2 million
Mitt spent $21.3 million; raised $9 million, not including $9 million loan

Compare to Paul campaign:
Spent 2.1 million raised $5.3 million... way to go... no questions... no complaints... just bundles of appreciation.

Plano TX

Frugality works both ways...

Yes there are lots of fees to participate in straw polls and debates.
There are the minimal staff to pay.
There are phone bills, hotels, and plane fare.

This is why we should not be emailing the campaign or callling them about little things; it puts a strain on the office people.

RP spending

Good comment Jane.

Ron Paul's HQ consists of mostly volunteers. They get flooded daily with with thousands and thousands of un-important emails and try to answer them all. I wonder how many of those are folks from other campaigns doing their own spam jobs. He has said on TV that his entourage try's not to stay in high dollar motels too.

RP is the only cogressman that actually turns un-used money BACK into the budget office at the end of each year.

Believe me, your money is being very thoughtfully spent.

I am surprised he just spent 2 million!

Two million is nothing for a national campaign. I will suggest that instead of bitchin just go and donate more.

I can't even believe we're having this debate.

As a small business owner I know that it takes money to make money.
Who thinks $2million is a lot of money these days? Payroll, Rent, Commercial Air flight, Rental Vehicles, Utilities, Food, Hotels, Marketing, Advertising, Straw Polls, Debates, Supplies, Merchant Account charges, besides Miscellaneous---what have I forgotten?
Folks, this man still has over $5million left over--that is actually amazing!
John McCain raised a bit more in the 3rd Quarter, however, he ended up with less cash on hand---in the $3million range---he was running on credit. Most people have no clue how much it costs to operate a business, let alone a Presidential Campaign! Please remember, in many states, they have moved up the Primary elections, there is less time to prepare. If this campaign doesn't spend money wisely (good timing and negotiated rates) it would then be irresponsible. Ron Paul is the best darn steward with the cash on hand than anyone in this country. If we think $5million dollars is enough...then we need to put on a new pair of Reality Eyeware. As William Wallace screamed, "FREEDOM!!!"
Folks, if you want freedom, it's gonna cost you. If you want to remain Slaves...it's costing us now, and it's only going to get worse like comfortable frogs in a slow simmering pot of water. We better get outta the luke warm H2O and WAKE UP!

I Love the Internet

I don't have to wait for information from the campaign, I can go find out what they're up to. I see their scheduled appearances, FEC reports, news coverage and YouTube video.

I know that my state, California, is too big to focus on right now, and that they are being strategic in targeting the states they've chosen. I trust that radio ads and other approaches are being prepared and used in the target states.

Everything hinges on setting Paul up as a winner in the early states. The rest of the country won't make up its mind until the last minute, anyway.

What do you think? http://consequeries.com/

A myopic analysis

My fiance' and I went to Ft. Lauderdale to see Dr. Paul, paid our $1,000 and met him, talked with him, and asked him tough questions.

He was with many dignataries that evening before the debate. To include all of his staff, support, security, wife, family, and other local costs...lets just say for shits and giggles it cost on average $1,000 each for a day and a half travel/event for those directly in his campaign. With say 50 people, thats $50,000 for one event.

I'm sure the good Doctor is standing on his record of frugality.

The man is brilliant.

He's smokin.

from fec.gov

Ron Paul only spent 34 percent of the 8.2 million he received in the first 3 quarters. He will probably start doing better in the polls after he spends more money.

from EricRI

It would be more expensive to have someone opening envelopes

Suppose, instead, that the campaign employed someone to open envelopes, process checks and letters, enter the information into a computer for FEC tracking purposes, etc. And then suppose that all of the people who donated online actually sent in these contributions by U.S. mail.

It would have been WAY more expensive, and of course lots of people would have had good intentions and would never have gotten around to writing a check. Furthermore, we wouldn't have the "real time" reporting that has encouraged so many people to donate more, and donate again.

Automated processing of credit card donations is a GOOD THING for the Ron Paul campaign. In fact, it is a good thing.

All of these talking heads on the news channels talking about how Ron Paul has collected money "from" the Internet are just laughable. The Internet hasn't donated anything! He is collecting money from real people via the Internet. Some few will choose to mail checks to the campaign, but most of us are donating online because it is cheaper and easier for us and the campaign to do it this way.

Don't they have to pay to be in the debates too? I could be wrong, but I thought they do.

Look At All The Happy Creatures

I heard it's around $50,000. I can't cite a source though.

What's up with all of these cloaked accusations???

I am offended that some of you posters would even think that this money is being mis-spent by Ron Pau.

If you actually think that or entertain those thoughts, then you need to do a little more research on the man!

RP has no problem at all putting his info out there. RP is the ONLY candidate that reports ALL straw poll results on his campaign site, win or lose. This is the most real and shoot from the hip candidate that I have ever seen in my 50 years. That's the main reason we are being so energized and active in his election!

It's the reason that America is going to elect him as President.

My $.02 on the $2M

I have been following Dr. Paul's career for 20 years now. I don't care WHERE the money went because I know that it all went to further the cause of freedom and liberty. For who? FOR ALL OF US! Quell your curiosity and your mistrust. This is a man who doesn't care about money or power. He doesn't want to see this country continue to go to hell like it has been. He has a large family who is going to inherit this country, and he wants to do what he can to make them free, and he's offering to take us along for the ride. But make no mistake: whatever he does, even though he may make a mistake or two (and he will), it will never be for the same kind of evil or crooked intentions of the rest of this crew that's running and he will never use the hard-earned money that we send him for anything other than to make our lives better for us. Count on it. I KNOW that you have never seen his like before, but he really IS a horse of a different color.

Pretty great return, I'd say...

We were just building up steam during the second quarter and look how far we have come. We still have much more to do, but I do know that Ron is the most fiscally conservative guy you'll find. I don't think he highly values wastefulness either. Much was spent on campaign materials, as a Meetup Organizer I received hundreds of yard signs and hand held signs and billboard sized signs. Slim Jims, and bumper stickers. (We also bought a lot). If all the meetups got as much as we did, it isn't difficult to see where much of his second quarter funds went, he has been from coast to coast more than once. He spent very little considering he increased his donations by 114% over second quarter fundraising numbers. Spend 2 million and get 5.8 in return? I think he spent it well. Now, we can move into full throttle.

spent wisely

the campaign is starting to kick into higher gear, with the 5 million we raised for him last quarter, he will be able to do twice as much this quarter.

Don't forget, they supplied meetup's with a lot of free stuff just for the asking last quarter. I like how they are doing it now, sell it cheap with the money going into the campaign funds. I know the DFW area purchased at least 2K worth of signs this last week.

Man, you are right about those credit card fees, those are at a MINIMUM 2 percent. Paypal is closer to 3 percent plus other fees.

They have also been sending out mailers.

The question is, should we take matching funds next year to gain more momentum.
