Everyone sees what they want to see

In response to: Truthers continue to see what they want to see.

Everyone sees what they want to see:

  • The truthers and the antitruthers;
  • The believers and the non-believers;
  • The Rah-Rah-Randers and the Rand-Can-Do-No-Gooders;
  • The statists and the anarchists;
  • The gold bugs and the paper pushers;
  • The carnivores and the vegans;
  • The Keyensianists and the Austrianists;
  • The IP defenders and the trashers;
  • The Republicans, the Democrats.

Isn't that clear enough by now? Doesn't all the data here on the DP point in that direction? There is no way we can have unity, nor is there reason to. People believe what they believe until they change their mind. Or rather, until their minds are mystically, magically changed.

Don't take it personally, and don't hold it against anyone.

People see what they want to see. Everyone does it.

I know what you're trying to express...

This slight modification may help.

Everyone sees what they expect to see.

This accounts for various degrees of missing or incorrect information, culture, gender, age, programming, etc. It helps explain why we see what we very much do not want to see - but feel powerless to change it.

The Battle of Conscience vs Pride

What is the meaning of life?
I think it is the fact that we have a conscience,which is our inner sense of right and wrong,good and evil,better or worse,fair or unfair and just or unjust.We know our conscience is real,whether we believe in God or not.Some people call conscience the law of human nature.But there are other parts of our nature that are in conflict with our conscience.A few examples would be greed,hatred,selfishness and jealously .It seems these examples are all related to the main culprit that conflicts with our conscience. It is called pride, which is described as an inflated sense of self-importance or self-righteousness.

Pride is what makes us reluctant to admit it when we are are wrong as well as cause hatred,jealousy,lust for revenge,lust for money and lust for power.Pride is what makes us unwilling to forgive or show mercy to others.Pride is what makes us think of excuses to try to justify something we know is wrong.Pride might even cause you to dislike this video.LOL

Pride can cause us to dislike people we don't even know who live thousands of miles away.This is because we might feel proud of a certain "group" we think we belong to.This "group "may be one that is based on race,religious denomination,a political party or some other chosen belief system that prevents one from questioning things and seeking truth.Pride has enabled people in positions of power to convince others to willingly commit horrible acts of violence throughout history.

Some people have committed horrible acts of violence because they felt "shamed","dissed" or "disrespected".In other words,someone or something has offended their sense or feeling of pride.Maybe pride is the most destructive force to the human race and many people are not even aware that it exists.

But there is hope for us.Just simply being aware of pride can help us.We all have pride and every soul is a battlefield.One simple victory over pride can help us.Why not apologize to someone you have done wrong?.Why not forgive someone who has done you wrong?What do you have to lose?Your pride.

Are you angry with a friend or family member?Would you feel so angry with them if you were at their funeral?Probably not,as you would most likely feel great compassion for them.Why not give them compassion,mercy and forgiveness while they are still with us?

Have you ever heard of the golden rule?The golden rule says to treat others the way you would like to be treated.What if you tried to live your life by the golden rule and treated others with kindness,forgiveness and mercy.What if you admit and repent of your mistakes and the wrong things you have done ,said, and thought?What if you swallow your pride and let your conscience be your guide to truth and to what is right or wrong.In the end,do you actually think you would regret living this way?You decide.......

Hopefully,this message will help someone change their life for the better. Please share this message if you think it would be helpful to anyone.Thank You

The desire to not be ignorant of the truth , ...

and the desire for others to not be ignorant of the truth. That will cause suffering. To think you know the truth and expect others to believe the same thing means suffering to no end.

I see nothing.

Cause I want to.

AUM

I would say

people see what they are capable of comprehending.

Love or fear? Chose again with every breath.

The conversation continues...

Free includes debt-free!

Of course, you are only

Of course, you are only seeing that people want to see what they want to see because you want to see that people want to see what they want to see.

Plan for eliminating the national debt in 10-20 years:

Overview: http://rolexian.wordpress.com/2010/09/12/my-plan-for-reducin...

Specific cuts; defense spending: http://rolexian.wordpress.com/2011/01/03/more-detailed-look-a

The dichotomy of the NWO.

Those who use psychology (psychopaths) to scientifically influence the ones who "believe" too passionately, eg. the ones who are too passionate will "die/kill" for a "cause" whereas those who use psychology, understand how to control human behavior ie. "Divide and Conquer" to do their bidding; to set up a society of control.

The ones who are "awake" or "truthers" who believe in the Non-Aggressive Principle, for the most part fall into the latter category by default.

I believe the challenge is to prevent our fellow human beings to act like savages and instead embrace virtues of a loving "family". Can 95% of us truly be free as intended by God, and not government?

Can we occupy "Make Love, Not War" on a global scale?

"society could go in a thousand directions as to how it would exist and how it would be, but the public mustn't know that. The generations must believe that the one that they're born into is naturally evolved."-Lenin/Alan Watt/cuttingthroughthematrix.com

Who wants unity?

The ONLY unity we should be worried about, is having the freedom to be different and who we are. I'm not at all worried about being 'united' to any single belief, just the freedom to believe and be.

bullshit

I continue to see that which I do not want to see.

Michael Nystrom's picture

Ah, now we're getting somewhere.

I understand you to say that there are things in this world that you don't want to see, yet you see them anyway.

Now we're getting to the root of the issue: Desire.

You believe the world should be a certain way, and it is not.

The world is what it is.

Why should it conform to the way you desire to see it?

To be mean is never excusable, but there is some merit in knowing that one is; the most irreparable of vices is to do evil out of stupidity. - C.B.

Thank you! (minus the curse word)

That is what truth is--reality regardless of our desires.

Sometimes, I don't know what the truth is, but a lot of times I do. It's my job to accept it when I find it.

Christians should not be warmongers! http://www.lewrockwell.com/vance/vance87.html

I second that!

Who among us does not want to see the triumph of the rule of law, rightly administered, with no partiality? The truth is, if we do not battle injustice, or if we do not distinguish between right and wrong, good and evil, liberty and slavery...we get the greater of two evils, not even the lesser.

"Hence, naturally enough, my symbol for Hell is something like the bureaucracy of a police state or the office of a thoroughly nasty business concern." ~~C.S. Lewis
Love won! Deliverance from Tyranny is on the way! Col. 2:13-15

I disagree, I come here to see what others see Nystrom

The most challenging posts, the ones which make you research and find you are wrong. Those are the most enlightening.

The challenging posts which force you to research and find you are right, those are the most reinforcing.

The challenging posts which force you to explain in a logical way what you felt on an emotional level, those can be humbling.

Without trying to see what others see, none of this would happen.

It is very true..... Life is

It is very true..... Life is what we make of it and 90 percent of that is how we choose to look at things.

Some folks are gifted and can see good in just about everything.

And Those Who Don't See What

we see are either asleep, uninformed, brainwashed, stupid, or too lazy to do the research! ( Just Kidding.)

Disagree. People have

Disagree. People have different views of reality but it reality is the same. Let me show you an example:

Alex Jones invited Noam Chomsky to his program. They are in totally different segments of the political spectrum. However, they agreed on a majority of points, both of them could clearly pinpoint the power structures (military industrial complex, mainstream media, fake two party system, etc).

I think the difference is mostly on shallow vs deep people. The more deep your point of view is the more you can agree with people who hold contrary views.

I think you are missing the tautological point of this post

The only way to attack this post is with a paradox, as I have done below.

“Although it was the middle of winter, I finally realized that, within me, summer was inextinguishable.” — Albert Camus

"Facts are stubborn things"

Every now and then, reality comes around and smacks you. You sit back and, if you're honest, say to yourself, "Well, I sure was stupid."

Any person who has not changed their mind about some closely held beliefs at least once in their life is not using their mind.

What about those that want to see

that which they don't want to see?

What do they see?

“Although it was the middle of winter, I finally realized that, within me, summer was inextinguishable.” — Albert Camus

jrd3820's picture

lol They see what they want to see if they are seeing what

they don't WANT to see. Because it is what they DON'T want to see that they want to see.
Get it?
Gawd Ed.... you would be so lost without me.
You do see that right?

all I see is that I am now confused

Or, as Robert Frost would say: I am not confused, I am just well mixed.

“Although it was the middle of winter, I finally realized that, within me, summer was inextinguishable.” — Albert Camus

You're on the right track,

You're on the right track, but I would argue over the use of the word "want".

Yes I agree... but FACTS are

Yes I agree... but FACTS are Facts. No matter what you want to see. Some people are not intellectually honest.

Michael Nystrom's picture

And what if the facts turn out

not to be facts?

To be mean is never excusable, but there is some merit in knowing that one is; the most irreparable of vices is to do evil out of stupidity. - C.B.

then those so called facts

then those so called facts were lies and everything associated with that "lie" need to be adjusted.

Facts vs Truth

The words Fact and Truth are often used as though they are interchangeable. However, a distinction can be made. Facts are subjective. Subject to time, perception, interpretation (i.e. events). Truth is something that can exists as a principle (axiom). 2+2=4 is a Truth. That the twin towers fell/collapsed is a fact. Most facts are lost or become inconsequential over time. Truth persists for all time. That Jesus lived / lives is a fact. Some may believe / agree. Some may not believe / disagree. Michael seems clearly identifying a human trait. The need to be right and the reticular activating system are powerful in the human mind. Our egos, for the sake of edifying our subjective value system, and hence our identity, will seek out to ensure we are "right" (bias). I cannot overcome your bias. Only you can overcome your bias. You cannot overcome my bias. Only I can do that by first wanting to do it, or to be open to it.

By the way, lying is intentionally conveying information that is known to be false. Naively conveying false or incorrect information is not lying.
