It's Time to Put This 9/11 Conspiracy Thing in the Right PlaceSubmitted by Benjamin Vander Jagt on Wed, 04/03/2013 - 03:16
I want to begin by thanking bloatedtoad for his DP original, "It's Time to Put This 9/11 Conspiracy Thing to Rest Once and For All". It's well written and very thought provoking.
It's not really very important what I think happened that day. There are much bigger and more important questions. Whenever I start talking to someone about the topic of the attacks on 9/11, I detect a lot of cognitive dissonance from my fellow countrymen. I can't even begin to hint at the numbers 9 and 11 before people think I'm a lunatic. Most people don't WANT to go down the rabbit hole.
So I ask, "Do you agree that the attacks on 9/11/01 have been used as an excuse to strip us of our constitutional rights?"
Everyone always pauses and then answers, "Well, definitely yes."
Then I ask, "And can we agree that the attacks were inspired by the fact that we've had our military occupying other nations?"
So far, I've always gotten a "yes" to this one as well.
"And have we been distracted by fake threats of terrorism, while the government goes off and spends our money with reckless abandon?"
"Are we in fact now allowing our government to go to war everywhere with impunity, even though practically none of our current wars have anything to do with the attacks on 9/11?"
"Have we all been blinded to the fact that Bush and Obama have the same foreign policy since 9/11?"
"Has the US not started kidnapping, torturing, and murdering US citizens without due process, such as in Gitmo?"
I ask all of these down-to-earth questions, and when I see the nausea start to set in, I ask, "Knowing all of these things, do the conspiracy theories really seem so far fetched anymore? In fact, do they even matter anymore?"
