Californians--Why aren't you Registered as Republicans yet?

0 votes

Coming off of a strong showing in Nevada, I have something disheartening to share. In Nevada, we left thousands and thousands of votes on the table (we did not get them) simply because many Ron Paul supporters failed to register as a Republican in time. Imagine what the reaction would have been to a 20% or greater showing in Nevada! This could have been possible had our supporters understood the fact that they could not simply show up and vote. Mind you, I am thrilled with our results in Nevada. They were outstanding. But I have seen too many people show up, only to be turned away—taken too many phone calls from people who were upset after finding out too late that they were not able to participate because they had not registered as a Republican in time.

The best way to ensure we have a strong showing, is also often the easiest; Register Republican. That’s it.

Now we are coming very close to the Super Tuesday primary and caucuses, and it is obvious that what has been true in the early states is also true in California; Ron Paul supporters are not all aware of what is required of them to participate. It appears that as much as 60% or more of those participating in Ron Paul meetups and other Ron Paul activities in California are NOT registered as Republicans. This means they cannot participate in the Primary on January 5th.

We are doing everything we can to identify Ron Paul supporters and get this message to them: Participating in a primary is MORE important—by far—than voting for Ron Paul in the general. In fact, due to such low turnout at Primaries and Caucuses, your vote is worth 20+ general election ballots. There is no greater way to impact the election. Nothing else is this important.

Please make sure you are registered as a Republican by 5:00 PM on January 22nd. And help me get this message out to each and every Ron Paul supporter in California. While this message is specifically targeted towards this absolutely crucial primary state, the message is true for all remaining states: GET REGISTERED TODAY.

Can this be made into a sticky? If not, please bump this topic and/or share with your friends so we can reach those Ron Paul supporters in California who are unaware of how crucial it is that they register.

Already voted!

Absentee ballet mailed! Converted 5 republicans so far maybe more by the primary, 6 votes for Paul out of Stockton CA so far!

Sticky please!

Just for today.

Thanks for the post and BUMP!

I just emailed my cousin in California regarding the deadline and relayed a little of what you said here.

I Re-Registered

I re-registered as a California Republican (after about 12 years of no-party status) just so I could vote for Dr. Paul!

Reno Nevada going large for Ron Paul in CA

I just wanted to highlight the fact that in Reno, the hard core group who put so much effort into winning NV spent much of the day dialing independents in California to encourage them to register Republican and vote for Dr. Paul. Its tedious, thankless work---but it will probably result in votes nonetheless. And it demonstrates exactly what is required to get this message out; stepping outside our comfort zones, and reaching out to those who have not made their way into the big tents like Daily Paul.

Thank you to everybody has been working so hard for this campaign, and to those who continue to do so even after their state has completed its primary/caucus. Please read the excellent comments posted below, and you'll gain a better understanding of the *real* obstacles faced by the campaign. For all of the talk of media conspiracies and voting machine conspiracies, people miss the fact that neither of those really need to exist when Ron Paul supporters are unaware of what they need to do to participate anyways. It doesn't matter if 40% of the state of California supports Dr. Paul if only 4% have met the requirements to participate. We absolutely must have the fundamentals in place first---we need to have real, authentic votes in order to win this thing. There are quite a few supporters out there who are not well informed, and not connected to these sites or to the campaign. These people want to be reached, and are simply waiting for somebody to share with them the right things to do. Are you that person?

Thanks for doing that, Reno

You guys rock.
Can we make this a sticky post?

STICKY

Please tell anyone you know in California and other upcoming states how important this is.

Agorism is the process whereby we create the orgs that provide what an absence of gov would necessitate, gradually crowding out the violent state from the market, killing it through neglect.

Been registered Republican since 2002

Though I never voted like one. I only registered like that to avoid making a scene. Long story to that, trying to make this short. However, karma rewarded me with that.

Please make this a sticky post

Jay's message is extremely important to spread! Please tell every supporter you know in California to REGISTER REPUBLICAN by Tuesday January 22! This could win or cost us the entire election!

Big Thanks!

Yes, growing up in the Martial Law years in my old country... I've seen first hand the corruption/oligarchy/cronies around big government, not to mention the blatant mass media suppression and censorship of the opposing parties...and I thought I left it all when I came here...but no, I see some fringe forms of "corruption" in US society.

Now, I see the MSM supression of our dear Dr. Paul, strings pulled by big corporations on the gov't, etc...

But I tend to do something about it...by campaigning, donated and voting for Dr. Paul!...

FREEDOM>>>FOREVER!!

do it at the post office tuesday!

go early! see post below...

When....

i registered as repub. in CA back in november, online, and when i got my card to confirm and send back, they had me still listed as democrat. i had to cross it out and change it.
be sure to check that you are confirmed repub. when you receive your document. [i hope this does not interfere with feb. 5 since the deadline is already here-tomorrow].
have my mail in ballot; just filled it out this past weekend. GREAT to see RP's name on the ballot(:

CA Independents CANNOT Vote 4 RP!

There seems to be some confusion in the Golden State.

Rules were changed some time ago in CA to allow Independents to vote for whoever they wanted from whatever party.

But more recently, the *CA GOP* changed the rules so that, in order to vote for a Republican, you MUST be registered Republican.

More confusion: evidently, ballots sent out to Independents in CA list *all* the candidates, thus leading many Independents to believe that they can vote for a Republican if they so desired. (Friends of ours, registered Independents, confirmed this from their sample ballot.)

Here's the fact: Independents cannot vote for a Republican in the CA primary!! The CA Republican primary is a *closed* primary -- only registered Republicans may vote for GOP candidates.

Remember, the deadline is tomorrow -- get your voter reg card filled out as "Republican", and get it *postmarked* (not just dropped in the mailbox!) by 1/22 if you want your vote going to Ron Paul on February 5th!!

On February 6th...go right ahead and change back to your favorite political party affiliation.

Some states

A NEW voter can declare affiliation at the voting site on the date of the primary

Does my burka make my butt look fatwa?

why do we have closed primaries?

there are so many people in california who would vote for ron paul but haven't switched because they either don't know they need to, or they don't want to be republicans, or they are lazy, or they haven't made up their mind who to support yet.

most of the polls are showing that about 1/3 of gop voters don't know who to vote for until the day of the primary.

i'm trying to see the upside of a closed primary, but i'm failing. it blows.

Because

Closed primaries, or no primary, or caucuses or membership requirements, or whatever rules the parties want to use are all protected by the Constitution. The parties have the right to form and make their own rules.

Howard Stern tried to get listeners to join the Libertarian Party and take it over, so we changed our rules to prevent it. Closed primaries are often in response to a take-over attempt, or fear that Democrats might try to nominate a Republican loser in a strategic move. Changing registration is a defense against that.

It's Sooo Easy - Just Do It!

I just went to the Post Office in Hollywood. Got the form, filled it out in 5 minutes, there's no postage so it's free.

Done.

Felt weird registering as a Republican but drastic times call for drastic measures.

There is no reason that anybody who is a Ron Paul supporter in California cannot take 5 minutes out of their day today or tomorrow and register.

If u can drop off your Netflix at the Post Office then you can register to vote.

DO IT!!!

Just over 24 hrs left to register in California

Officially, the deadline would have fallen on today, but because it is a holiday, Californians have until tomorrow to register or re-register, change party.

Go to your County Clerk's office and complete your registration in person tomorrow. Or, if you can't do that, go to your post office or library and pick up the registration card, complete it and get it posted by tomorrow.

It is too late for Californians to register online (because the ballot is returned to you for your signature and would span past tomorrow's deadline.)

Californians, take care of this important step tomorrow if you have yet to register!
