Leaks Reveal Secrets of the Rich Who Hide Cash Offshore

David Leigh | The Guardian | Wednesday 3 April 2013

Exclusive: Offshore financial industry leak exposes identities of 1,000s of holders of anonymous wealth from around the world

Millions of internal records have leaked from Britain's offshore financial industry, exposing for the first time the identities of thousands of holders of anonymous wealth from around the world, from presidents to plutocrats, the daughter of a notorious dictator and a British millionaire accused of concealing assets from his ex-wife.

The leak of 2m emails and other documents, mainly from the offshore haven of the British Virgin Islands (BVI), has the potential to cause a seismic shock worldwide to the booming offshore trade, with a former chief economist at McKinsey estimating that wealthy individuals may have as much as $32tn (£21tn) stashed in overseas havens.

Everyones wealth should be anonymous.

I support any attempt at tax evasion.

This class warfare stuff is dangerous. If I could hide a large sum of money off shore I would probably do it. Anyone with any wealth at all has a target on them. A broke empire/state will do anything to preserve its crumbling power.

I would recommend resisting this "a lot of money means bad person and there fore we should persecute them" meme.

Just like Cyprus it was the evil Ruskie oligarchs. Turns out Feb was the largest depositor outflow of Cyprus banks in the last 15 months. The only money left was mostly middle class people with a retirement nest egg.

The ultra rich NEVER HAVE TO PAY THE TAXES PASSED as a tax on the rich.

Liberty = Responsibility

I'm thinking of two words

Bail In

I'm just trying to figure out how to redirect it to the people. :)

I applaud

those on the list who earned their wealth through means other than crony capitalism. I think we will learn that most on that list will end up being the elite privileged.

The only thing is -

more than likely - they are the ones doing the mugging!

Some may be State cronies, but not all of them.

But, even in the event that they were all State cronies, it would still be good that the State was deprived of revenue.

Was Romney on the list?

Not sure if its bad they

Not sure if its bad they didnt pay like the rest of us, or good that they stopped the government from collecting.

To climb the mountain, you must believe you can.

Good, that they didn't pay.

If I got mugged, I wouldn't say it was bad that others didn't.
