Something WEIRD just Happened with STOCK MARKET! NOW!
Submitted by takeaction on Mon, 01/21/2008 - 18:27Something wacky just happened...and maybe somebody can explain what just went on? I was watching the numbers for the Pre-Open Stock market tomorrow, and the Dow was almost Down -600, and then all of a sudden the charts on cnn and yahoo Pre-market data just vanished and updated with a plus 38 Market open! Never witnessed that before. Very interesting!
Update.....5:14pm Pacific
The Overseas Markets are crashing...Toronto big Loss. Gold and Silver have dipped a little...so people, this is your chance to get in, Now. I pray you don't have stocks right now. As soon as the Fed takes the Rate down again...watch Gold and Silver skyrocket.
The Fed is going to sacrifice the dollar in an attempt.....and I say "Attempt" to keep the equity markets afloat. This is like putting a band-aid on cancer. It will not work!

BofA, Wachovia - earnings down almost 100%!
BofA, 4th qtr earnings down 95%
Wachovia, 4th qtr earnings down 98%

they cite the "lending crisis" as the culprit
so how far with this go?

The Feds took his money and are pumping it into the market....probably.
I'm watching the spin on Squack Box....says US stocks look the best to buy and that a cut of .75 needs to happen when the market opens...
I only left 5K in there on a pending patent....I pulled everything else back in May when I first heard Dr. Paul and bought and he suggested. btw, the 5K is wall streets $$$

I'm assuming
this news about Ambac and the bond insurers is one of the reasons things are getting nutz.

Intelligence
If you want to intelligently explain to someone what is happening in the market and why, go for it..But telling folks who are scared or have actually lost something of value that Ron Paul told you so won't be well received..Just state the facts and let others draw their own conclusions
You have to keep neutral in
You have to keep neutral in these situations. Extremism on both sides is not useful for normal people. On one side you have Peter Schiff and on the other you have Donald Luskin. You have to analyze the information from both of these guys and then come up with a rational outcome on your own.
Just remember, things happen in cyclical and secular terms. This downturn is healthy, not the end of the world. We need this to flush out the bad and to readjust things.
If the market does have it's bottom fall out on Tuesday, you can guarantee it will be back in a hurry. We live in an age of fiat money. All that money has to go somewhere and you better believe a lot of it will come rushing back here buying stocks on the cheap.
Now, I don't necessarily agree with our current monetary system but if you look at other countries it is very apparent that they are in the same situation. 99% of the world has a fiat currency so don't let that both you too much.
The world is so tightly wound together now that it would be almost impossible for the US to end up like Argentina did a few years back. Our economy might be riding the coat tales of China and Japan but their at the mercy of ours too. Please don't forget this. The number one purchaser of the Gap and Toyota is the USA. China and Japan are at the mercy of our consumerism. China might be a booming consumer but they aren't even close to the US yet. People in China aren't running out to shopping malls to buy people gifts like crazy as we get near the Chinese New Year, not yet at least. Most of China is still very very poor. I have been there 4 times and have seen it personally so trust me.
Don't let this extreme pessimism make you lose sleep. Be more concerned about getting Dr.Paul elected.....
Baby Boomer 401k decimation
"They" want the baby boomers to sell their 401k portfolios at firesale prices. "They" want them to keep working/slaving instead of retiring. Bye bye retirement home on that lovely island....
It's just a marketing trick
It's just a marketing trick of the Ron Paul campaign to get good results in Louisiana. :D
What the.... sounds like Armageddon!
So, you are saying that the food will run out and that our money will become worthless? So, what happens to our homes, etc? What you are talking about is Armageddon, not a recession or depression that people live through.
Look, I know the US is going down the toilet, but there are people in other countries that aren't DYING in the streets. I mean, the economy of some countries in Europe isn't great, but people aren't starving to death or killing each other to eat a crust of bread.
I figured that the US would soon cease to be the superpower of the world and that role would be taken over by China. OK, so we're not the big dog anymore. People in Australia and Norway and Brazil (just examples) still lead decent lives, even though their country is not a superpower, right? They are even more subject to government corruption and money manipulation.
Hearing this makes me want to put a gun to my head. Of course it will probably be bad, but come on, can we put things into perspective?

Norway..
has so much money, it would blow your mind.
More on Norway
Norway's military spending:
http://www.wisegeek.com/what-countries-have-the-highest-mili...
United States $986
Norway $687
That's a significant military expenditure. They seem to be doing their share.
GDP per capita is the highest in the world!
http://economistsview.typepad.com/economistsview/2007/06/soc...
Plus, look at social spending as a percent of GDP on the same graph!
Norway and EU are much higher than US. Actually, US is at the bottom.
Ooops! I just found this:
"Despite its refugee work, Norway maintained a relatively homogenous, largely white Christian population until the 1970s, with most immigrants in the 1960s coming from its Nordic neighbors. These flows stemmed from a common labor market, established in the 1950s, between Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland (Iceland joined in 1982)."
http://www.migrationinformation.org/Feature/display.cfm?ID=307
White supremacist bastards, those Norwegians!
More from above link:
"Stories of migration mismanagement from other European countries, coupled with the threat of sudden flow increases from immigrants from developing countries, motivated the government to enact an "immigration stop" in 1975. It was the first legislation to formally restrict immigration to Norway."
If you are interested in immigration you might check out the web page above. Norway went on to liberalize immigration in recent years.
Norway seems to have a very thoughtful policy. No fences, though.
Curiously, the EU manages immigration issues just fine with no fences.
Israel and the US build fences. Amazing coincidence, don't you think?
Thanks for the tip on Norway! We could learn much from them.
Keep doing what you've always done,
Keep getting what you've always gotten.
We're not just whistlin' Dixie.
Norway has so much money, it would blow your mind.
If they have so much money why don't they all move somewhere warm?
Keep doing what you've always done,
Keep getting what you've always gotten.
We're not just whistlin' Dixie.

Takeaction...I will explain a little...
....Like the Missouri moto...most people don't believe it until they see it.
This is sad, but true. Now I will try to explain some ,but not much. I am not trying to scare anyone, but wish everyone could be prepared to what is to come, but unfortunately not many will.
Think on this:
#1. What will happen to society when food supplies run extremely low?
This simple statement holds the truth about what is to come. First it is easy to dismiss this. We have always been able to go to the store and buy whatever we desire to fill our cupboards. This will change, seemingly overnight.
#2.You can believe this or not, that will not keep this from happening .
It will start with wheat,it will seem that we at first will have a wheat boom, but the supplies will be sold and gone within months. This will cause wheat prices to rise. Weather related problems will then wipe out wheat fields in Canada and Europe. Prices will rise again and again. This will effect the farmers that buy feed, who in turn pass it on to us in higher prices for beef, chicken, milk or whatever.
#3 Remember it will start with wheat, but will soon spread to other grains. When food is in small supply, what happens to the value of money? What happens to the value of sliver, of gold? In this situtation, if you can't eat it, it becomes worthless.
This will happen, wish I was wrong.

Everyone needs to calm down..The markets will be lower tomorrow but there is no guarantee of any "crash"....The "no food" and "can't eat" comments are hysteria..Many posters here seem happy this might happen, even though it would hurt a lot of people..I would be careful to not create hysteria because if it doesn't happen we will look foolish..I am not selling anything like many suggested, I am not buying guns as others have suggested...
well ...
the guns are a whole nother matter. The laws being passed and bills up for approval are taking away your right to own one.

The stock market will rebound, the dollar will .....
....make a comeback this year for a short while. It's not the stock market, or even the dollar, or the price of sliver or the price of gold that matters. Food will be what matters.
Believe me, I was very gentle in what I said. My desire is for one less person to starve to death. I could go into details about what hungry people will do, but I wont.

it has already started
wheat doubled in price since sept 07. because of demand, market manipulation and droughts in other countries.

honorgod, can you please help?
Honorgod, (Tim)
You obviously seem to know what is going on with the markets and future of the economy. I'm being serious, this really all makes sense. My questions is: What is the average american to do in order to live through this without losing everything? What do we do with mortgages? You've said buying silver and gold and oil is good because they will go up. Does this mean put the money into commodities since even though the dollar is going down the profit will still be up?
Hording food and running to a cabin doesn't seem very practical. People still live through recessions and even depressions, they just can't afford to buy much, right? I am still fairly young and haven't experienced this.
I don't want to hear that it is all doom and gloom because in the end, even if I lost everything I still have my wife and kids, even if I had to move into a little apartment. I'm not interested in being scared. I'd like to know what one should do in order to make the best of this situation that is obviously occurring (besides vote for Ron Paul).
Thanks,
dmanson
you're on the right track
you're on the right track, dmanson
Most important thing i can say (not that you asked me) is don't be afraid to ask for help, but never forget that our individuality is present most notably in our choices and their consequences.
No two snowflakes. . .
I'd say silver has an astonishing upside potential, but it is a speculator's investment if you want to really cash in with it. But hey, its just silver. . . and that's what's so great about it. Despite someone else's post tonight. i can't imagine silver being worth nothing, and the math of it says that the purchasing power of silver should be way higher if the market would catch on. . . to the math of it. Well, it's been such a manipulated market. I wanna see them try and stop it from hitting $150/oz in the next. . . 2 years. Ummm. . . that's banking on the "stagflationary" scenario rather that the depressive scenario. But either way, silver should maintain excellent purchasing power for the next few years, maybe another 2,000. We'll see.
That's shootin from the hip, but the upside is huge, while nothing is guaranteed, of course.

This will be interesting to see tomorrow.
401k's are going to be causing problems in the next 5-10 years, when the larger groups baby-boomers start turning 70.5 years old...the laws creating the 401k require people to start withdrawing (selling their 401k stock) by that age. This will be huge amounts of people selling stocks without enough buyers...instant increase in the supply of all these stocks (due to baby-boomers selling) without an increase in the demand will cause prices to plummet, and likely a panic, allowing the prices to free-fall like the big crash before the great depression...quite possibly worse. Government intervention strikes again! Robert Kiyosaki has been talking about that for many years now.
