She said

"we haven't had a very collective notion of children" not that the children belong to a collective.
A collective notion is the idea that everyone in the neighbor hood keeps an eye out for kids in general, which comes from an African proverb it takes a village.... Were African villages communist collectives?
I think it may be a poor choice of wording, rather than a nefarious coded message.

I See Your Point

BUT, she said a lot of other stuff too. She sounds to me like she thinks that parents shouldn't have the say with their own kids and that the schools should constantly stick their noses in their business

skippy

I voted you up

because the notion that everyone - in the traditional
societies you're talking about - is responsible for the
well-being, teaching, admonishing etc. of children
is legitimate, it can and does work well in a lot of situations.

I think what has happened (blame it on Hillary?) though,
is that that sort of warm and fuzzy imagery is put forward
to cover an agenda that's really about bureaucrats having
a free hand to drug and indoctrinate children and putting
parents in a position where they can be punished or at least
ignored if they object.

So we have reason to be wary.

Put the glass down

and step away from the kool-aid.

OK I am not from the US,

and you guys seem to have big issues with the public education system.
If your public education system is really bad, how about researching http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7lW5hJw6-8.
The implementation of UN Agenda 21 is starting in my country, and by the howls of outrage to this comment, may be further down the track in the US.

What Did I Miss

in your comment that got you downvoted? I think you should make a thread on the video you linked here!!!!!!!!! Do it okay Jill?

skippy

This is the kind of mindset

This is the kind of mindset people have here in PA with the property taxes. People don't want to have sales and income taxes raised 1% each in favor of abolishing property tax. These morons think that education is some kind of birth right and are happy being bent over for the children.

Oh, and if you dissect reality, you do sign away your kids to the state when you give them a birth certificate and SS number.

Please come join my forum if you're not a trendy and agree with my points of view.

From where I stand, God gave the children to the parents; and I will not be compelled by any amount of state-run media to ever say that ain't the way it always was, and will be!

Now do folks get a better understanding why government got in the marriage business?

WOW

Emailed Ms. Harris

Ms. Harris-Perry,
I just watched your "Lean forward" spot and was a bit thrown.

I'm a parent, who, along with my husband, sees part of our responsibility as parents as providing a safety net of other responsible adults to partner with us in caring for our children. We've drafted a will that provides a wonderful adoptive family should my husband I both perish. We've maintained close relationships with both our parents and our siblings, which we've shared with our children. We've created strong, intimate relationships with friends, whom our children know and trust.

Your Lean Forward spot implies that "everyone" is responsible for our children. We strongly disagree. In fact, we teach our children to be far more discerning. Anyone of "everyone" could be a creep. We've trained our children to be discerning and to, in fact, not that "everyone" as having any kind of authority. We've taken pains and both maintained and developed healthy relationships so that we would in no way, shape, or form depend on "everyone" for our children's well being. Nor would be ever preach such to our children. We teach them to be discerning based on our discernment. Any message that preaches "everyone" as responsible for our nation's children is dangerous. Do you even know what children are taught in self-defense classes? I've taught little kids karate for years. We teach them to trust NO ONE other than those their PARENTS have told them to trust.

Moreover, I wonder if you understand diffusion of responsibility. If everyone is responsible; no one is responsible. This is basic to human behavior. I understand that you see a problem and wish to intervene to fix it. But "everyone" is not the problem. Bad parents are the problem. Please reconsider this destructive advice that seeks to diffuse responsibility and seeks to place innocent children in the hands of anybody. We need to support parents who are struggling, not contribute to their to abdication of that responsibility.

Best,

Me

I second that

I keep replaying it - figuring it has to be a hoax right?
No WAY that is a real advertisement on MSNBC.

I say this - if it IS real - we all best start laying battle plans now.

It is THAT far gone.

Oh...my...God. Did she

Oh...my...God. Did she really just say that?

Take Comfort in This

And Biden is talking about a new world order this weekend. These people are insane.

Sub 1/4 million viewers of the MSM is the new normal.

The diminishing influence of the mainstream media is going to be a big problem for the establishment going forward. The TV's main message is; Everything is man's fault and is to blame for even the weather and climate. People are tired of being yelled at and sold the hoax that everything is your fault and you have to pay for it.

Wow, just goes to show how

Wow, just goes to show how you can get way off track in your thinking by not being at least interested in thinking fundamentally.

I would guess Melissa started her thinking with the notion that it's nice, good, and right when children have a safety net beyond their parents. You know, the sort of safety net most (I'm hoping) parents weave by choosing who will raise their children if they both die; by being close with their own parents and brothers and sisters and sharing that closeness with their children, by having close friends the kids know and trust, by having a church family or a network of friends the children feel accepted by. Also not bad to have a safety net of acquaintances and neighbors, who know who Sally's parents are and if they see Sally going 80 in a 25, will call and tattle. That sort of thing; the sort of thing parents who are responsible for their children provide -- most of the time without even thinking about it as other than a product of living their own lives with intimate, healthy, productive social ties.

But and alas, because some parents fail, because they move around too much, destroy intimate relationships, fail to be discerning, we end up with a bunch of parents who are irresponsible and their children suffer.

The Melissa's of the world feel the pain -- as they should. But it's not so comfy to think fundamentally about the source of the problem and the pain and attack that. Because then you'd be making ATTACK public service ads. Right? You'd have to all condemning and your big goal would be so make some people FEEL BAD. That's not compassionate to others. That doesn't feel good. And what doesn't feel good, can't -- oh, my gosh -- ever be good. That's, like, anti-self-compassion.

But still, WE'VE GOT TO FIX THIS! WE CAN FIX THIS! The Melissa's rush out and make creepy hive-mind spots that don't blame anyone and so they don't have to feel bad. But when you aren't willing to blame anyone, you have to blame everyone. You have to make it society's fault; society's responsibility.

I don't think this track that the Melissa's of the world take is evil or some preconceived socialist agenda. It's just where the path wanders when your need to not blame anyone with a face trumps your need for remedy.

Melissa says, "Once it's everybody's responsibility and not just the household's, then we start making better investments."

I would find it hard to believe that, if Melissa were to actually think about this statement, she could find it true. I very much doubt that she has no experience, or at least book-learning, with diffusion of responsibility. I doubt very much that she, or anyone, actually believes that investments in anything are better made by some diffuse group than by the folks who stand to lose or gain by them.

This is just more, taking her and her ilk further down the path they set upon when they chose to believe they aren't courageous enough to blame the culprits, tell the truth, and accept everyone as free, capable agents. Compassion turned against itself. Maybe.

Anyway, certainly creepy. My husband and I have and will continue to find our own people to stand in for us with our children if the need arises. "Everyone" need not apply.

Everything the government

Everything the government touches turns to crap, including the children.

Good point. Separating

Good point.

Separating children from their families and into a collective ideology/government/force has been a tool of degenerates for a long time.

feels like...

Your kids are not just yours they are also and more importantly the property of the United States government. Because Who knows better than your "publicly" elected officials, since you elected them they should be a big part of your daily life and rule over you and your family with a caring iron hand...

scary shit

So

I guess they will grow up to be unquestioning soldiers. Just like those who marched into Stalingrad....Soviet and NAZI.

donvino

They have enslaved our kids to...

DEBT!
