Gary Johnson & Mary Ruwart will speak at Porcfest

Both Gary Johnson and Mary Ruwart will speak at Porcfest. Additional speakers also announced.

Dr. Mary J. Ruwart will be at the Free State Project’s 2013 Porcupine Dr. Mary Ruwart Freedom Festival this June in Lancaster, New Hampshire. Dr. Ruwart is a research scientist, ethicist, libertarian writer/activist and author of award winning international bestseller “Healing Our World”. She will have two talks June 19th-20th: “The Future of the Libertarian Movement” and “The ONLY Solution to the Health Care Crisis”. Her books will also be available for purchase at the event.

During a May 17th, 2008 interview on New Hampshire based Free Talk Live, Dr. Mary Ruwart said she is a long time supporter of the Free State Project and officially endorsed it on-air. You can listen to that interview here. She also delivered a lecture titled “The Deadly Secrets Behind Soaring Pharmaceutical Prices” at the 2009 New Hampshire Liberty Forum, available here.

Gary Johnson just announced that he will speak at Porcfest again.

There are still some RV sites left for tents or RVs at Roger's Campground where Porcfest is held. I think the motel across the street and 3 or 4 others in town still have openings. Remember, several people can share the same RV site. Put 2 2 man tents on an RV site? No Problem!

All is not lost. Keep in mind, even if all of the tent and RV sites are sold out (which didn't happen last year), you can still share a site with someone else. And while the motel already sold out, there is a motel across the street and are several additional motels in town.

Wish I could go

as I am a big fan of David Friedman. His book "The Machinery of Freedom" was an eye-opener. It perfectly explains how a purely libertarian minarchy is not even theoretically possible (greatest line of the book: "It becomes aggression, to exhale"). Too bad we can't all be able to leave our work and family responsibilities to go there. Well maybe we can plan a vacation around it.

The Machinery of Freedom

Is now free to read online. Hugely recommended, to anyone who hasn't read it. My favorite chapter was "Love Is Not Enough." I read it about 40 years ago, and it utterly changed the way I understand morality: It persuaded me that every man has only three career choices: he can be a trader, a thief, or a beggar. "Government" is not a fourth option.

Geez, 40 years ago?

Could you be older than I? Your account name always evoked an image of a fairly young man. I guess you never know...

Geez as in Geezer?.

Yep, I'm 9 years older than you are. First time I voted for President was 1972 -- just in time to vote for John Hospers & Toni Nathan, the first-ever Libertarian Party candidates. I seem to be getting more radical with age.

He is great. I loved reading

He is great. I loved reading his research on ancient Iceland. I met his son (perhaps even more famous?) at a recent Liberty Forum in Nashua, New Hampshire.
