McConnell To Join Filibuster

My, my:

WASHINGTON POST - Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) plans to join a Republican filibuster of legislation aimed at curbing gun violence should Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) bring it to the floor.

“While nobody knows yet what Senator Reid’s plan is for the gun bill, if he chooses to file cloture on the motion to proceed to the Reid Bill (S. 649), Senator McConnell will oppose cloture on proceeding to that bill,” a McConnell spokesman said.

Reid said Monday that the Senate would move this week on the legislation, which includes an expanded background check program for gun sales, new federal funding for school security programs and would make gun trafficking a federal crime.

I heard a recording of Obama this morning

He called fillibuster nothing more than "political manuevering to prevent the voices of the people from being heard." Then he alluded to a poll alleging most americans want this, and basically said "Republicans are using manuevering to silence the majority."

i wonder if he first chuckled after his speechwriters first showed him his script.

McConnell's Head...

McConnell's head is so far up Rand's backside you can only see the soles of his shoes. Wait a minute... Benton has gone missing as well.

Lipstick on a pig.

That being said, Liberty is a big inclusive issue. If McConnell wants to join this filibuster, he will be welcomed. Will he later vote for ending this debate when the time comes, like Rubio did with Rand's last filibuster? In other words, be "for it" before you are "against it." The bottom line is take this kind of support where you can get it, especially in such a corrupt body. Realize though that the agenda for each participant may not be focused upon the same Liberty goal.

hey?

Looks like

McConnell is becoming Rand's Bi%@h!

It's time! Rand Paul 2016!

Now that the Minority leader has joined

More will follow. I don't think Harry will fight this now. If he does try and fight it, his Nevada Senate seat will be in peril.

Harry will try to determine where the line will be drawn

by the GOP. Then he will walk right up to that line with his legislation.

This is a game of poker, and we're at heads up. There is risk to the Republicans here too. If they filibuster something that the majority of the American people want -- and the vast majority - something like 70+% want universal background checks --- then they end up looking like "obstructionists."

That is exactly how Obama wants to paint them: As obstructionists. So there is quite a risk here to both sides. It is quite high stakes.

the support for background checks

Is highly overstated.

Obama is losing the PR battle on gun control, and losing BIG TIME.

If a bad person with money

If a bad person with money wants a gun, all the background checks in the world will not prohibit it.

this i gotta see

He's Jumping On the Bandwagon

I don't think this guy has any principles whatsoever. He's a political whore, who just cares about getting re-elected. I believe he saw how much attention Rand got for his last filibuster and was jealous. This time, McConnell wants in on it... especially since he's up for re-election soon.

This is good, and a start,

This is good, and a start, but not great. Puts egg on the face of Graham and McCain.

The GOP civil war rolls on

McConnell is fighting for his political life. Party be damned, he's got to win reelection! I wonder who's side he'd be on if he didn't have an election coming up in 2014.
