Your Extra-Virgin Olive Oil May Be Fake

Did you know that the Mob makes money hand over fist by selling you fake olive oil? Olive oil is a $1.5 billion industry in the United States alone. According to Tom Mueller, an intrepid journalist who wrote a scandalously revealing book on the subject, 70% of the extra virgin olive oil sold is adulterated — cut with cheaper oils. Apparently, the mob’s been at it so long, that even most so-called “experts” can’t tell a real olive oil from a fake olive oil based on taste alone.

Look, it is quite simple

If your olive oil is working the street corner wearing fishnet stockings it is a fair bet it isn't extra virgin. A little common sense, people!

No oil–

Not even olive oil, says Dr. Esselstyn a 80 year old pro plant based diet advocate.

Maybe for some folks, but...

I get my energy from oils and fats. For the first time in my life I'm not overweight, my mind is sharper, and I feel great. I don't use olive oil much, I mostly cook my plants in coconut oil, butter, ghee and bacon grease.

Cabbage, corn, brussels sprouts, cauliflower each taste amazing fried in bacon grease, and then crumbling the bacon on top of it. Shyeah buddy!

So what is the libertarian solution to consumer fraud?

Vickie

I would point out first

That the current system in place has obviously not worked, or prevented the current fraud. To point out the obvious. In fact the current system is a complete failure here.

The libertarian answer is obviously to proceed using no force. Beyond that who knows... I would personally think ratings agencies would be of huge value. Companies that test products and give their seal of approval. Companies would pay for the "seal of approval". And of course those would include ratings agencies for the ratings agencies.

And as far as litigation for consumer fraud... I might guess arbitration services and possibly privately owned networks or companies that coordinate information on businesses that have been found fraudulent. Other businesses would be able to buy this list, and said list holder could refuse business withcompanies with "bad credit " or violations. (Example: Bank that has list won't do business with company that makes fake oil that is on that list. The shipping company won't do business with same company that makes fake oil, etc.). Fake oil Co. then has to provide a complete infrastructure for itself, just to exist. It's own financing, it's own shipping network and fleet... And not to mention overcoming being a known fraud. Probably wouldn't last long.

Honestly, I don't know. That's just off the top off my head. Most people are smarter than I, so I am sure a better system would arise. But it should be plain as day that we currently , essentially, have no working system in place to stop this sort of thing. How widespread is it?

Consumers Rule!

Consumers can band together and test these products, and sue the pants off those who commit fraud.

If you let the government do it, they (1) not only miss this kind of thing, but they (2) change the definition of "extra virgin" to something else entirely (there's a Clinton joke in there, somewhere), just as they do with "pollution" and "organic", and (3) make it harder for one to grow one's own olives, process them, and sell them, because they're too busy being lobbied to kill the competition, by the mob.

What do you think? http://consequeries.com/

oh great!

What's next? They going to tell us our government is corrupt and they no longer represent the interests of the people? (Rolls eyes)

Disagree. Customer of mine had a case of mason jars, I asked him what it was for. He told me he had a bee hive and he was packing honey for his friends. I told him his friends were very lucky; he came back later with a jar of honey and asked for no payment whatsoever. It was still warm, boy-o.
