HIGH levels of LEAD found in Chinese Rice sold in the US

For all my "buy the cheapest, not Americam products" militant Libertarian friends - lol have at it, start with some lead coated Made in China rice.

Reporting at the annual meeting of the American Chemical Society, a group of researchers lead by Tsanangurayi Tongesayi, an associate professor of chemistry at Monmouth University in New Jersey announced the results of their analysis of rice from Asia, Europe and South America. The imports, which currently make up about 7% of rice consumed in America, contained higher than acceptable levels of lead.
The levels ranged from six milligrams/kilogram to 12 milligrams/kilogram; factoring in average consumption, that added up to estimated lead exposure levels 30 to 60 times greater than the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) provisional total tolerable intake (PTTI) levels for children and 20-40 times greater than the standard exposure levels for adults.

I'm never sure what to make

I'm never sure what to make of FDA recommended daily allowance or exposure limits. On one hand they allow more fluoride in drinking water than they should, but on the other hand some alternative health treatments call for taking supplements far in excess of the RDA.

What the?

What the hell we doing getting our rice from China anyways? China is a long ways away, surely it would make more sense, especially with the job situation to make our own rice here. For that matter, it seems like there are a lot of things we could make here and should be able to save money doing it. 7 million gallons of oil to fill on giant cargo ship...crazy way to do things. Somebody must be lining their pockets for making "laws" that enable such garbage.

More lead is fine. We'll be better off to fend that ocassional..

Kryptonite radiation exposure.

;)

Thank you for posting this.

Very important and helpful information.

The FDA struggles for relevance as the BBC nods sympatrically.

Hmmm This smells like protectionism. Where to I find safe foods?

Are there any reputable private organizations. Government is too costly, sloppy, and frankly bribe-able.

Ha! Gives a whole new meaning to the expression

"EAT LEAD!"

What would the Founders do?

As DHS hoards all the bullets...

...at least we know of a source for lead.

Its OK

It is developing China and everyone has to be tolerant. Chinese Rice imports should be doubled to keep good relations.

This is so not right

When they start selling rice by the pound and not the bushel it's an indication something is up. LOL

Lundberg and Texmati

are US-grown. You get what you pay for in this case.

holy crap

we're they growing that in lead based paint

Did they check American rice for comparison?

Metallic lead is far more dangerous than when in plant colloidal form.

Hair samples can be tested for lead levels.

it's only been

found in Chinese Rice, also some other rice affected from other countries, No US rice affected.

I'm shocked they didn't find more chemicals in the Rice since China is a giant smog and sewage pit.
