Jon Stewart tonight continued examining the progress the Republican party has made reaching out to minority voters… or lack thereof. Stewart mocked Rand Paul for his awkward address to Howard University on why black voters ought to be sticking with the GOP, surmising that “the Republicans left black, now they want to go back.”

On Paul’s point that the GOP isn’t doing well with black voters because they haven’t done enough to emphasize the link between the party and African-Americans, Stewart used a Seinfeld reference to explain that you just can’t say Republicans supported black people, then “yada yada yada,” then we need black support again. He pointed out that “bigoted Democrats” became Republicans in the post-civil rights era.

When Paul’s history lesson to the crowd got a little awkward, Stewart imitated Paul’s security team, saying “Remove the vanilla bean from the hot chocolate!”

** Jon Stewart's Take: Rand, I like ya. Even though there were some awkward moments, I know you meant well and were sincere. So, I'm not gonna show my audience the nuances you addressed, but for time and comic relief, I'm gonna simplify for my peons that you may not be bad, but since your point was to ask African Americans to re-consider voting GOP again, I'm gonna smear you by proxy, via reference to real racist RINOs in the same video segment.

Of course, he could've shown Rand's rather brilliant joke in reference to GWB & oBUSHma's past drug use & illegitimacy of truly racist mandatory sentencing and imprisonment of non-violent drug 'offenders,' or the fact that he had a genuine mental block in remembering the Howard alumni MA Senator (which if anyone saw the video, he merely stumbled, not being demeaning & if anyone's spoken to masses in public, your mouth & memory occasionally stumble at the worst moments), but no. That, is how Jon Stewart deliberately chose to addressed it.

NPR's Michel Martin of Tell Me More interviews Rand on his Howard University address:

Direct .mp3 Download Link: http://pd.npr.org/anon.npr-mp3/npr/tmm/2013/04/20130411_tmm_...

You know what's telling? This was the last question Michel asked of Rand:

MARTIN: Are there any people of color on your staff, particularly African-Americans, particularly in positions of leadership?

RAND: We have and we don't currently have because they left for promotions elsewhere, but we have and probably will in the future.

It's like, 'see, see, he doesn't have any black staffers!' Er...yeah, way to go 'news person;' if you were an actual journalist, a simple google would've answered your own question, but had to pull the racist-card at the tail end of the interview.

Gary Howard, is whom Rand is referring to as the person who left to work for RNC. Gary was Rand's and Dr. Paul the Elder's RP2012 spokesperson, who left on GREAT terms, is black.

But, as y'all know, how can you spot a politically expedient douchebag who use 'token minorities?' Advertise the fact that you have blacks working FOR you, and parade them before the crowd at every campaign stop & trot him out as a political PR counter, every time your opponent accuses you of 'racism' out of some pathetic sense of PC-guilt.

The Pauls, BOTH the Elder and Younger NEVER did that, nor would they EVER conceive of doing such insane and unethical thing!

Did I mention how despicable MSM is??

Rhetorical, yeah. I know, but still... it just never ends.

The race-card, literally is the only ammo they have.

I find it more troubling that not among the general sheeple populace, but among the 'movement' liberals, even if you hate your political opponents, how does something so obvious still work on them?

I truly wish some of the audience present at the Howard U address went home and saw how CNN, Faux, and MSDNC were spinning it wildly, and realize that they really are lying to them...about everything, and wake up to the false L vs. R. paradigm and the age-old Ruling Class' simple but deadly effective tactic of Divide-and-Conquer, soon... Only if they realized what Cynthia McKinney's long realized: it's the Ruling Class vs. Us, the Free Humanity. Nothing more Nothing less.

Well, one can only hope they find out soon, for their sake; the current econ & geopolitical trajectory is gonna leave no prisoners.

I don't think

Stewart dislikes Rand. Stewart is right that showing up at Howard University was awkward for Rand, but it isn't Rand's fault. The old guard has damaged the relations between the party and minorities for decades, so Rand's gig at Howard was tough. I have respect for Rand for attempting something that he knew wasn't going to be easy. Stewart like many other members of the media took cheap shots for a few laughs. I take Stewart about as seriously as Oreilly, but will admit that I like Stewart a little bit more only because his show is on Comedy Central and is openly satirical about his presentation. OReilly wants to fool people to think that his show is actually news.

awesome thread!

And I enjoyed the rant!!

Thanks for all the info. :)

jon's a twit with an agenda..

He got some good marks in the past for his quasi support for Ron Paul...but anybody who knows anything, knows that he's just a tool...somewhere in between Bill O'Reilly and Bill Maher.
I just hope they use a condom...if wouldn't want to deal with any of their offspring..

Participate in America's future- Research Ron Paul- Truth will Prevail! You too, will be proud one day, to be able to say: "I was a Ron Paul supporter."

I wonder if he knows how much he's limited his own audience.

I loved watching him during the Bush regimes but as soon as Obama hit office this iconoclastical and bouncy show turned into pro establishment pro status quo lapdogs. Total disappointment, I don't bother watching anymore, it leaves me flat.

There is nothing strange about having a bar of soap in your right pocket, it's just what's happening.

I guess that's some people's sentiments here.

If you don't know your rights, you don't have any.

Not by Me!

Watch Jon interview David Stockman (3-part extended interview); Stewart either really doesn't get that the FED is the culprit, or is simply regurgitating the Regime's party line:

Part 1: http://www.thedailyshow.com/extended-interviews/425241/playl...

Rest are available on the same page.

In the interview, Jon is basically, word for word, channeling his Keynesian Fascist bankster brother, Larry Leibowitz, the Chief Operating Officer of The NYSE, New York Stock Exchange.

** Of course, I'd rather Stockman weren't pushing for a 'Super GS' but be that as it may, while he's no Austrian, he gets the source of the problem. That, is more than one can say for most former or present govt economists.

http://www.lewrockwell.com/lewrockwell-show/tag/David-Stockman/

These scumfcuk feckless papershuffling bankster degenerate junkies can gamble all the fiat notes in the world...as long as there is no Fed.Reserve's FDIC to backstop it by exposing the taxpayers to pay for their mistakes.

Frankly, that goes the same for national deficits. WE didn't create the debt, the corporatists and politicians did. Like Sandy Hook, why the FRAK am I paying for THEIR collectivist mistakes?

Also, in other interviews David almost always mentions and gives credit to Dr. Ronald Ernest Paul, and to be fair, so does Jon, though seldom it may be. But in the entire conversation, to my recollection, NOT ONCE did either of them EVER mention the fact that everything Stockman is talking about has been spoken by Dr. Paul for over 40yrs!!!

It's like, really, it takes a Reagan Admin economist to be taken seriously on this issue, even by the Left???

"Let it not be said that no one cared, that no one objected once it's realized that our liberties and wealth are in jeopardy." - Dr. Ronald Ernest Paul

Jon Stewart is not a deep thinker

Not many media types are. They have to be able to relate to the common man to make it into the position, and overly analytical people fail to connect with viewers most off the time.

“Although it was the middle of winter, I finally realized that, within me, summer was inextinguishable.” — Albert Camus

well, yes, and no.

if you want to define a "deep thinker" in the traditional academic sense, perhaps not. But he most certainly is smart.

Now, even as Stockman was laying out his case, did Stewart feign to disagree with his assessment, even though he intellectually understood what Stockman was laying out? Or, was his innate socialist elitist (abstraction of the false peace of mind 'knowing' some nebulous govt agency and law are 'protecting those whom I want protected'-arbitrary emotive satiation) proclivities that prevents him from truly comprehending?

Who knows, in finality? As no one can truly 'read' read other's minds.

Well, from all the actions, statements, and bodylanguage one can observe, I'd surmise that almost all mid-level 'movement'-liberals, and MSM types deploy, well, rather, are drowning in their own neurological psychosis of faith in bad ideas, daily, even beyond what those of us may see as malice, or even simple childish pettiness.

But, are we all to a certain extent limited by our own various levels of internal biases? Absolutely.

Stewart is not dumb. That much is certain. As are most upper echelon geopolitical Fabian Socialists; they're malicious Machiavellians.

But, where does brother of NYSE's COO stand?

I'd say he's smart, he's pretty quick off the cuff. Malicious? It'd be easy to assume. But, moi? Not sure. I'm more inclined to assess that he's simply a victim of his own ideological bias.

Often, you can clearly tell that Jon Stewart actually have read some of the author's works before he interviews them.

Of course, you can do a cursory chapter reading and invoke a few key words/phrases to SOUND like he read and comprehend their works.

But, more apropos of the Stockman interview, the most saddest thing is that the audience watching actually deemed a comedian, however smart he may be, to be more fit to discern economic matters, than an actual economist who has a pretty good track record of at least understanding and explaining the source, the real cause of econ malaise!

Yet, these are the same a-holes that ridicule Tom Woods, TWO-Ivy League graduate, just because he doesn't subscribe to their idiotic Statist Collectivist Fascist Religion in the Tyranny of Good Intentions!

Apparently invoking "he's a Harvard Grad" only has gravitas, ONLY when they're referring to a 'liberal.' But then again, I suppose we also do it to Krugman. So, fair point. But, unlike Paul Krugman, Woods has a great track record. When's the last time any actual entrepreneur who actually paid attention to what Krugman says? Jim Rogers? Eric Sprott? Doug Casey? LOL. Think not. Krugman's a rockstar economists to those whom never bothered to even study the subject on a perfunctory level, but like the gun issue, they know everything about they want to regulate away. LOL.

And, frankly, I figure, in the age of the internet, the whole notion of 'explain it, as if you're speaking to a layman' type of nonsense should be null and void. EVEN to a Comedy Channel audience. I'm always of the mind that if treat your audience smart, even if they're not, they'll eventually catch up, recognizing the fact that you respected enough to treat them with an understanding that they have a capacity to attain that knowledge.

The brain automatically works to catch up to those who are smarter, not the other way around; which is why it always puzzled me that adults talk to children like morons. Developing child's mind is a beautiful neurological sponge; even if they don't get what you're talking about at the moment, the neurological seeds planted are certain to blossom, on their own, in time: parents would benefit more from reading their children Shakespeare and Mises, than Barney.

But if you're one Dr. Ronald Ernest Paul, you may coalesce your message in essential terms that communicates that you clearly understand complex concepts enough that you can state them in succinct terms that anyone can comprehend, without condescending; both novice and adepts would clearly see that 'yes, indeed that individual speaks from depth of knowledge and due diligence.'

Dr. Paul is a great example of someone who speaks of most complex ideas and distills it down in his own terms, that still communicates to any alert listener, 'indeed he knows WTF he's talking about,' and what's more? Can inspire one to look beyond the primer.

Stewart, on the other hand was a bit condescending, to a degree, which frankly I have no problem with; he is who he is. The problem was the sheeple moron audience, who thought the comedian was right, and the economist, who actually got his numbers right, was wrong, because he was a Reaganite, even though he quit the administration over BS govt stats & morally hazardous policies.

It's always dismaying to observe the invisible prison bars of the mind, in people. Never ceases to amaze.

that NPR piece with Mara Liasson is terrible,

a total hit job with all the worst parts of the Q&A picked out... but the interview with Michel Martin is pretty good, here is a tube of the whole interview:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_bXqO9aPs4

yup,

it's so sad, and pathetic that post-GWB era, almost every single 'liberal' MSM outlet's go-to-24/7 card is 'they're racist! racist! racist! look they're racist!'

it's tiresome, childish, and in the end, it demeans them and their views as pseudo-'intellectual' simpletons.
