Mitt, Mormonism & Blacks

0 votes

Don't be too surprised that Mitt Romney isn't too comfortable around black people. Here's a link with many quotes directly from Mormon Church leaders throughout the years on the subject of "black skin."

http://www.realmormonhistory.com/god&skin.htm

It's offensive, but it's the truth. I did not make any of it up. Remember when Mitt said that he "pulled his car over and wept when I heard that the Church had changed it's policy towards blacks."? My question is, how could he have remained in this church all those years prior to this new policy (which was changed due to pressure from the NCAA, not because of some new situation in the heavens)?

A Little Religious Humor

Do you know the difference between a Northern Baptist and a Southern Baptist?

The Northern Baptist says there ain't a Hell.

A Southern Baptist says -- The hell there ain't!!!

What the man Mittens Romney chooses to believe in is entirely his own. We should stay the 'hell' out of it. Trying to confuse religious matters and politics is wrong, folks, believe it or not -- it's wrong. Why not get into which eye color is best, and choice of pet and how often he/she cuts their toenails // that would make about as much sense. The person that started this thread may have done so with good intention BUT the subject (discussion of right and wrong in this regard) belongs in church congregation discussions and not in the White House. Not that this is the WH, but hopefully you can WAKE UP to this simple fact.

Let's talk 9/11 instead. Smile.

Love and respect

Thank you Sean for your hard work on the Ron Paul campaign, and your efforts to save our Constitution.

I have read your four posts about your feelings regarding The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It is clear you are sincere in your beliefs.

When I was young, years ago, I visited many churches; the vast majority found fault with other churches. This turned me off. I did not feel Love and respect in negative teachings. When I became older, I studied about other Christian denominations. I found that each has it's challenges, and doctrinual quans. I felt the Holy Ghost moving in many of the churches I visited when they preched the Love of Jesus.

As I continued to grow. I began meeting people who had "out of body" experiences. Many of the ones I read about, and talked with, stated that when their spirit left their body, and they approached the Light --they were asked about what they learned about Love, and how they Loved other people. Not which Church they belonged to, or specific points of doctrine.

I have learned, and felt by the prompting of the Holy Ghost, that conflicts over points of doctrine are inspired by satan to cause contention. If you live in contention, it is harder to feel the Peace of Jesus and His Spirit.

Years ago, as a Born Again Christian, I felt the Holy Ghost call me to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (the Mormons). I respect that the Holy Ghost has called others to other churches.

The website you are sending people to, is in my opinion, a hate speech site. It practices strife and contention, and distorts the views of my Church. It takes out of context, and misrepresents our history and current beliefs. You may not realize it, but you are claiming "truths" that are actually based upon lies.

As I have pointed out elsewhere, among African-Americans -- one of the fastest growing churches is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (The Mormons).

Regardless ---, there are many Mormons who are supporting Ron Paul. We need them. Please do not offend them away.

Religion has NO PLACE in

Religion has NO PLACE in political discussion. It is wholly irrelevant to the duties of a President.

Imagine for a moment that religious speech were banned in America and you had no idea what religion a candidate was. Would it have any effect on your ability to determine whether or not they were qualified to hold office?

On the other hand, candidates who obsess over religion may indeed be disqualified based on that obsession. If they are running primarily on their faith (Huckabee), then they probably have little else to stand on. If they are attacking the faith of their opponents (enemies of Romney), then they probably can't find much else to attack them on without appearing hypocritical.

All the more reason to admire Paul, who makes it clear that he is uncomfortable discussing his own faith in a political context, while at the same time condemning those who use Romney's faith against him.

Ron Paul understands what place religion has in politics: NO PLACE.

I joined the LDS church about 25 years ago // stopped being an active member nearly 20 years ago. I joined because my investigation into their beliefs made sense to me and my family, I truly felt they were there to help each other in the name of Jesus Christ even in what others might consider the smallest of times -- a self-supporting group with some pretty good ideals as regards being a Christian and helping each other in their daily lives and beyond. But I don't want to go much farther down that road, I stopped investigating and learning and following many years ago // a personal choice I made.

I had a good friend inside the church that was black, and yes there was a time that black folk were treated differently than whites -- just the way it was, of course that was years before my time; and the same wasn't confined to only the Mormoms, being treated differently spilled over into society at large, still does today in many places and in many examples. Don't intend on going far down that road either. I'm white, my friend was black -- I saw no difference at the way he was treated, not at the time I was a church member. They fixed that discrimination thing pretty much, as I saw it.

Not that it pertains here exactly, but I always liked 'that idea' of having more than one wife concept; of course they fixed that too -- they don't do it, they didn't allow it while I was there, it's not the 'real' LDS church of modern times. You hear rumors of such matters (CNN got all excited a few times about some nut job out in Utah who was still practicing such behavior) but that is an off-shoot of the LDS following, something that happens in lots of churches. Not the multiple wives thing, I'm speaking of 'off-shoots' // a real BIGGIE being 'the crazies' that we have come to understand from the Muslims that like to blow themself to Kingdom come and kill others in the process -- those kind of crazies. Somehow we allow ourself to find the bad in anything and make that the norm for all -- when it isn't always the case at all. Bad is gonna take root if allowed, sometimes even when the oppositiion is such to try and keep it away -- bad just has a way of finding us no matter what.

Lost in this Post, only wanted to say -- Blacks are allowed and accepted in the LDS church today. And multiple marriages are a thing of the past. Don't believe otherwise.

This is worse

than any stupid newsletter that decried gangs or something ...whew!

I could care less

If Mitt is a Mormon or if Huckabee is a Baptist.

That means nothing. The actions they have taken are why I support Ron Paul. Not because of what they say, but what they do.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." ~ Margaret Mead

horrendous...the worst post

horrendous...the worst post on daily paul that i have ever read...so analysing various religious preferences and the accompanying bigotry has infiltrated the ranks of the paulites as well? so whats it going to be next?...some random quote about how an imam somewhere called all the christians the children of the devil?!...great to see that most of the comments are critical...

I am Mormon

Check out http://www.blacklds.org/history and http://www.cumorah.com/blacksandthepriesthood.html

The quotes above are not official doctrine, and never were. Do searches through hundreds of thousands of pages of speeches, sermons, books, and informal comments, and you will find some things that seem inflammatory. Guess what? Look through some Baptist sermons from the 1800s. The Mormons have got nothing on them fellows! Same for pretty much any religion. That was the way things were in that time period.

One reason we were killed and run out of Missouri in the middle of winter was because we were anti-slavery. There were no slaves among the Mormons (or virtually none) and that made the native Missourians nervous. The Mormons were too *un*racist for their contemporaries, and were hated for it. To expect 1800s Mormons to meet 21st century political correctness standards is unrealistic to say the least. Ridiculous might be a better term.

Thank you

GO RON GO Thank you for your post well said. I'm also LDS and I support Ron Paul. Quit listening to MSM and learn about the church yourself.

GO RON GO

It isn't productive or fair

I don't think it is productive to fault a candidate because of their religions beliefs. What possible good can come from being more divisive and judgemental than those we are fighting for being divisive and judgemental?

Free and Brave
or Cradle to Grave
You can't have both

Free and Brave
or Cradle to Grave
You can't have both

you can not do that

You can say the same thing about Science, Southern Baptists and a wealth of other organizations.

I'm not saying it...

The Mormon Church, Mitt's church, said it. The Mormon Church said that GOD HIMSELF said this. This wasn't "speculation" it was REVELATION directly from God.

That's a big difference from anything any Southern Baptist ever said.

The issue here, is if Mitt is a "true blue mormon" will he, does he, faithfully accept the decrees of the "Phophet" as being direct revelations of God? Any faithful Mormon will tell you HE SHOULD.

AND, while the Mormon Church changed it's BEHAVIOR, it hasn't repealed this doctrine. It's still "on the books" and an integral part of their belief system. Just like polygamy. While they have "advised the Saints against it" they still believe it very much. In fact all Mormons still believe to this day that God is currently a polygamist and that all "worthy" men who make it to the "Celestial Glory" will also become polygamists.

And would you be comfortable with a man as your President that get's his spiritual guidance from the same organization that gave us this doctrine, the polygamy doctrine, blood atonement doctrine, Garden of Eden in Missouri doctrine, Adam-God Doctrine, etc., etc., on and on and on.

My friend, you can NOT say the same thing about Southern Baptists and a wealth of other organizations. And besides, we are not talking about organizations in general anyway, we are talking about presidential candidates and the organizations they belong to.

A president Romney, if he truly believes in his religion, would be a complete fool if he didn't expand the Oval Office into a Fugure Eight Office and set up the Prophet right next door. Then he could consult with the only person on earth with direct contact with God before making all important decisions. I am not a mormon, but if I were, I would insist he do this. How dumb, how UNFAITHFUL, it would be if he had access to such an awesome resource and ignored it? The Mormon God might even strike him down for his arrogance.

Do you see my point yet?

Knock off the bigotry

Go ride your hobby horse elsewhere. I am Mormon. My entire family are Mormon. Many of my ancestors practiced plural marriage back in the day. I am also the biggest RP supporter you will find, and I supported long before half the people on this blog had ever heard his name.

Not one single Mormon believes that only the president of the church can talk to and hear from God. We all believe, as a matter of doctrine, in PERSONAL PRAYER AND REVELATION. Many Mormons support Ron Paul. Mormonism is not tied to a particular political party: Harry Reid is just as faithful a Mormon as Mitt Romney. The President of the LDS church and several close advisors have been registered Democrats for ages.

You can dis Mitt all you like, I sure do! But leave his (and MINE) religion out of it, else you are just as much a bigot as you accuse others of being.

RP2012!

Well said

Sean HANNITY. Thats who you are acting like. Do you care if Ron Paul wins? or are you just spreading worthless shit, Faux Noise style, about Mormons. This is the daily Paul, not the daily Mormon Hater. Who the hell cares about your religion or theirs. Freedom is a universal religion! Keep your crap off here!!!!!

they changed that statement

.
I personally can not attack Mitt for what his religion believes and not Ron Paul for what was written is his news letter.
My Pastor says things I do not believe or agree with all the time.

I wonder

If Mitt has on his secret underwear on right now? ROFLMAO.

Yes, very mature

Laughing at people's sincere religious beliefs is always a very sure sign of maturity. I especially like to laugh at the little white collars Protestant ministers like to wear. It reminds me of the collar the barber puts on you when getting a hair cut. And OMG, like, have you ever seen the get up worn by Russian Orthodox or Eastern Orthodox priests? The crazy square hats and ornate robes? Who do they think they are, kings? And how 'bout them Jews with their beanies and prayer shawls? Beanies....snicker snicker. Where's their pocket protectors? LOL...A hilarious lot, all of them...right? Whoever heard of anything as ridiculous as religiously-oriented garments and articles of clothing? What a bunch of nuts, right!??

Oh yeah, of course I'm kidding. GROW UP "2bfree". I realize it may be tough to act like a man when you're barely out of puberty, but give it a shot.

P.S. I am laughing at *your* underwear right now, 2bfree. You should really ask your mom to wash them more often.

RP2012!

Shame on you

Where is the "Free"dom of worship in your comments?

The religious garments that members of The Church of Jesus Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints wear are sacred to them, and are a significant part of their worship as Jesus as The Christ, and their personal Lord and Savior.

Please try and bring us together and uplift us; inspire us.
