Skeptical Libertarian: "The Four Dumbest Conspiracy Claims About Boston"

I'll be vilified by some for sharing this, but....

As libertarians, many of us embrace the credo: "Question everything." But "everything" means everything, including the theories advanced by our fellow libertarians. To put it another way: If something comes from the mainstream media, we're justified in giving it deep scrutiny, but just because something didn't emerge from the mainstream media doesn't make it true.

Here's my favorite excerpt from this article:

This is how conspiracy theorizing works: anything can be interpreted as evidence for the “theory.” Bomb dogs present? Government was in on it. Bomb dogs not present? Government was in on it. High security? Government knew. Light security? Government knew. No photos of victims? No victims. Photos of victims? Fakes and actors. Police don’t catch a suspect? They let him escape on purpose. Police caught suspect? Framed patsy. Security cameras show suspects? Photoshop. Cameras don’t show them? Cover up.

For some healthy skepticism about some of the week's Boston theories, read on:

Oh brother

Yes, I regularly read The Skeptical Libertarian and reserve the right to post even more stories from it that I find interesting. While I am not the writer, you may of course leap to the conclusion that, not only am I the writer, but am also a shape-shifting alien-human hybrid.

Thanks for posting

I agree with skepticism of skeptics. However, I will say that other than the identity of the private security guys and some references to Family Guy, I hadn't even heard about the others.

It is much like 9/11 Truth stuff, skeptics need to be careful as well. I know and have read many a skeptic who thinks 9/11 Truth means "the government did it" (which is absurd) or that "there were no planes" (equally absurd). Similarly, people questioning the marathon bombing narrative as being a domestic "belligerent dissident", should not be associated with the Family Guy claims or the "no blood" video editors, or people who think dogs were brought in to pretend to be dogs.

That said, the military guys with sagging duffels is not outside of suspicion and they should be taken seriously by authorities.

Well, this isn't intrigued just with "white people, in hats!"

Well, this isn't intrigued just with "white people, in hats!", or a cartoon, or police dogs, or "no blood" claims:

Waiting for more information

I think those in the mainstream and alternative media are expected to keep the news coming. This is especially difficult when we really don't have the official story to pick apart yet. Like most of you on here, no doubt, I'm not drawing any conclusions.

What I did notice is the gray and black backpack on the scissor lift was still there after the bomb in that area went off. Just one small piece of the puzzle to keep in mind.

They missed some.... No

They missed some....

No evidence. They have weapons of mass destruction (Iraq)

Videos of rockets and Rumsfeld sold them reactors. They don't have it (North Korea)

We must cut spending and the budget goes up.

We need to spend more and the budget goes up.

Read my lips no tax increase. Taxes go up.

We are going to tax the rich. The rich see no increase and taxes go up for the small business and working class.

The Government Gold is money (backed the dollar)... The FED Agency of the government Gold is not money.. Just a paper weight and we have alot of paper so we need lots of weight! Oh I mean it is a tradition to buy and hold so they do (not because it is money or anything like that)

We could go all night on Obama!

here here.

+1

If you want to see bat shit crazy speculation...

check out this guy: http://www.wellaware1.com/boston.shtml

Apparently, Kenny Loggins, Glenn Beck, Joe Rogan and John Candy are all involved in a grand conspiracy behind the bombings.

John Candy...?

As in John Candy...the dead actor?

You can't let insignifigant little details...

like one of your suspects being dead for almost 20 years prior to the crime get in the way of a perfectly good theory.

Yowsa

That guy's really taking it to the next level. WARNING: terribly graphic.

This is stupid

If the evidence is overwhelming, then call them conspiracy theorist. That is what Hitler called the people who warned about what he was doing. Some people don't care what side of history they are on.

Ron brought the Liberty movement together, Rand is expanding the crap out of it! :)
