volunteers!

My dad was a volunteer for over forty years, serving and attending fires until he was mid-seventies! (knees and legs got too bad to continue) Thank God that this did not happen to him!

These types of fires are more common around our farming communities!

We need to hold the survivors up, in prayer!

I live only 20 miles from

I live only 20 miles from West Texas! The blast was so huge that it shook my house and the noise was extremely loud! The blast was so strong that I thought it had occured next door!

My thoughts and prayers for the people of West, Texas and to the people of Boston!

Alright, maybe the topic can

Alright, maybe the topic can be updated with a little more info.

First, this is a fertilizer plant that caught fire. They rushed in to control it and thought they had it under control as the fire was being knocked down.
They were wrong.
Thats when it exploded taking everything nearby with it. 5-15 people are estimated dead and over 100 wounded.
This was an accident folks, unless someone purposely set the fire which I doubt.

Feel free to just copy this if you wish.

To climb the mountain, you must believe you can.

was it not on fire before it exploded? why were people there!

where is the contingency plan to evacuate when a fire occurs?

Two reasons

#1) Volunteer firefighters
#2) A small community had grown up around the fertilizer plant, as I understand.

Sometimes , we people, can be too unaware of risks that accompany living too close to a fertilizer plant. I was amazed about the fire that happened, sixty years ago, that was even worse!

But, the other person that said it sounded like it was next door, when it occurred twenty miles away, can tell you the enormity of the force! They lost three fire trucks and one ambulance in the blast, too. That is pretty darned forceful! In other words One big BOOM!

thanks man, sounds reasonable

I would have been complacent too now that I think about it, it is hard to believe it could be felt from so far away.

the newscycle seems to be spiraling out of control lately.. wtf

I lift these people up in prayer

I hope they recover their hearing and don't discover additional wounds, loss of vision, pts. God only knows at this time how many people are dead, will die, are disabled for life. It's trafic, and these folks are going to need help.

Not trying to be a conspiracy

Not trying to be a conspiracy theorist but everytime I see something like this happen, my mind wanders to "if this was on purpose, why?". I can't help it after so much I've seen happen in the last 5 1/2 years. Wasn't fertilizer used in the Oklahoma City bombing? Just a thought.

I've thought the same

Early Monday, Obama quietly signed a partial repeal of the STOCK Act. Later that day, the Boston Marathon occurred. On Wednesday, the Senate Gun Bill was narrowly voted down. On Wednesday Night, a large explosion went off at a Texas fertilizer plant. On Thursday, CISPA passed a vote in the House.

I'm not coming to conclusions, but this week has been fishy.

Yes. Fertilizer was used.

However this was a fertilizer plant. It sounds like an accident to me.

I just woke up and was fixing to light a cigarette

I'm viewing the clip and then BOOM!...I flipped my cigarette into the air. I had no clue there was going to be another explosion. lol

they haven't confirmed 60-70

they haven't confirmed 60-70 yet, stop being sensationalist.

if only everyone would farm

if only everyone would farm and garden organically and these plants will have no reason to exist. the factories are dangerous and their product is dangerous.

Ban fertilizer!

Ban fertilizer!

People with the same mentality say, "Ban guns!"

Think about it.

May God bless and comfort those who lost loved ones.

I can't believe people weren't leaving the scene as fast as they could. Or maybe they were.

Pre-explosion, what do you do if you're a fireman. I guess you'd have to stand down.

I thought I posted this but

I thought I posted this but the manager of that plant says there's lots of that Ammonium Nitrate at the plant. He also said there was a report of a fire there, but the assumption being it caused a reaction with the nitrate thus the huge explosion.

It's horrible, but not a terrorist attack. Unless there's SOMETHING ELSE we don't know about but it does not sound like anything nefarious. Obama's gonna ban Ammonium nitrate

Obama's gonna ban Ammonium nitrate

"Obama's gonna ban Ammonium nitrate"

Either that or he might just go after any type of privately-owned plant altogether.

Months or years from now, that's how it goes anyway with the soviets' playbook.

Ammonium Nitrate is common in pressure cooker bombs

in the Mideast, makes you wonder.

Yes, but...

One of those, huge, pressurized tanks makes one heck of a "pressure cooker" bomb! I wonder how many megatons worth of explosion that thing was! Just, WOW!

The ship was miles out in the bay but was on fire and when it blew wiped out the whole coast at Texas City.

BP plant also exploded along

BP plant also exploded along the ship channel a few years back.
It is also not uncommon for Grain Silos to explode, due to the amount of dry particulate matter with large surface areas floating in the air.

Science Education by Television

It's amazing how many people rely on novelists and TV writers for their knowledge about science.

Even in Los Angeles, the anchors haven't figured out why one witness to an earthquake says it was gentle and rolling, and another one will say it was a sharp jolt. I guess in fiction the quake is felt equally by everyone, everywhere.

when you witness a fire at a plant, be it fertilizer or oil or other highly flammable stuff... you just DON'T STAY there, and you put as much distance as you can between it and yourself.

That meteor over Russia...

Many of the injuries were because people saw a bright flash, and went to the window to see what it was.... just in time for the glass to be blown into them.
