Completely Private Search Engine, Startpage, To Launch Completely Private Email Service!

You can sign up to receive updates on the project here, or even become a beta tester!

Welcome to the future home of StartMail, the private email service being developed by StartPage and Ixquick, the world's most private search engines.

Our engineering team has been working diligently to create the new StartMail email service. We have built everything from the ground up and have incorporated state-of-the-art privacy protections at each step. The hardware is now in place and we are currently performing stringent internal testing to ensure 100% compliance with our high security and quality standards.

Beta Testing Will Begin in Mid 2013.

Once our internal testing is complete, we'll release the email program to users who have signed up to be beta testers. We will gather additional feedback from our beta users before releasing the program to the general public. If you are interested in being included in our group of StartMail beta testers, please check the "Beta Tester" box below.

I just signed up to receive updates, and I have been following this project for a few months! Now, if we could get them to move on to financial transactions or banking!

Finally lol I sent them an email request months ago.

I had started to think they weren't actively developing the project further than their Startmail beta announcement last year.

I have been using Startpage daily for at least the past year. My only complaint is the Ixquick image search is retardedly retarded (I have to use Google for website image searches.) Other than that, almost any search I perform is via Startpage, it's my homepage for all my browsers. Great service, recommended.

Agreed, but...

I agree the image search is not very good, it does it's job, but can be far better.
However, I still wouldn't touch Goo-gag even for pictures. I found a site called picsearch.com that worked good enough for me.
There are ALWAYS alternatives to the big corporate entities ;^)

Thank you. :)

If it weren't for Ixquick/Startpage...

If it weren't for the Ixquick search engine I'd probably not bothering even using a search engine ever.
Startpage and Ixquick are great, been using their services for years and love it. I am looking forward to the email service they are providing.

hope they have the sense to

hope they have the sense to publically verify the security and privacy aspects, to a reasonable degree, reasonable from the consumers standpoint, not the corporate standpoint

saying that, bravo to all honest efforts, hope they get the support, (in this day and age) after proving their worth, however much i wish honest companies had it easier......free market, not anti-comptitive behaviour

Doesn't say what the "state

Doesn't say what the "state of the art" privacy protections actually are.

In other words, "trust us with your data".

Could it be a honeypot?

Could it be a Honeypot? Honeypots are setup to attract people to catch them doing stuff etc. For instance a honeypot proxy server might be used and advertised as a anonymous proxy server where hackers and down loaders feel comfortable using the proxy server. But the proxy server is a trap where the data is sniffed.

And here lies the big question how do we know what sites might be honey pots? Infowars? Dailypaul? etc. The moral of the story should be that you shouldn't trust anyone with your data.

Perhaps you would benefit from minimal research on StartPage...

Yes, obviously be skeptical, but also do your own homework.

StartPage has been around for a while, and is a trusted name in the private search engine industry.

Hmm, I like the idea, but

Hmm, I like the idea, but won't the FEDs step in? I'm pretty sure they require all email servers to store emails for "national security" issues. Correct me if I'm wrong.

That is impractical. There

That is impractical. There are millions of mail servers out there. Data retention policy is up to whoever runs them. You can run your own mail server if you want.

Who are the creators? Are they reputable? Follow the money comes to mind, but isn't the free market good at subverting govt spying. Any ideas on costs? Can I email between google/hotmail and still be protected?

No, you will not be able to

No, you will not be able to exchange email other services and still be protected. Email just doesn't work like that.

Sounds cool. I hope anti spam

Sounds cool. I hope anti spam measures will be active though.

To climb the mountain, you must believe you can.

We've been using Start Page

for a year or so probably and have been happy with it. This means I'm going to have to change e-mail addresses... again... ack

I have been using them as a search engine for about a year or so and never saw this. Odd..thnks for the news.

No problem!

I don't remember where I stumbled across this project, but I think it was a random comment on their FB page several months ago. Then today, it just came across my news stream that they made this announcement! I'm excited!
