Americans Made a Pact With the Devil After 9/11/01. Now we're paying the price, says Andrew Napolitano

The government's fidelity to the Constitution is never more tested than in a time of crisis. The urge to do something – or to appear to be doing something – is nearly irresistible to those whom we have employed to protect our freedom and to keep us safe. Regrettably, with each passing violent crisis – Waco, Oklahoma City, Columbine, 9/11, Newtown and now the Boston Marathon – our personal freedoms continue to slip away, and the government itself remains the chief engine of that slippage.

The American people made a pact with the devil in the weeks and months following 9/11 when they bought the Bush-era argument that by surrendering liberty they could buy safety. But that type of pact has never enhanced either liberty or safety, and its fruits are always bitter.

The Constitution is the supreme law of the land. It was written to create and to restrain the federal government. Every person who works for any government in the U.S. has taken an oath of fidelity to the Constitution, not unlike the presidential oath, which induces a promise to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution.

Nobody Wanted This Pact

The USA PATRIOT ACT was pulled off the shelf and hastily passed into law without legislators reading or debating its merits. Since then, it has been extended and supplemented with more and more such codes which undermine security just as they undermine liberty and privacy. The government is illegitimate and does not represent the will of the people. I refuse to believe that "we" wanted any of this. It has been forced down all of our throats. No words or actions taken by those who have strongly opposed these measures has mattered a fig.

To be governed is to be watched, inspected, spied upon, directed, law-driven, numbered, regulated, enrolled, indoctrinated, preached at, controlled, checked, estimated, valued, censured, commanded, by creatures who have neither the right nor the wisdom nor the virtue to do so. ~ Pierre-Joseph Proudhon

If there is a pact ...

... is there a loophole? Or a way to legally end the pact?

The government has been corrupt for so long, it's hard to blame primarily one or two leaders. They could not have gotten away with this if the people themselves were responsible enough and industrious enough to not want the government to take away their liberties.

Draw near to God, resist the devil

Only by getting humble before the Only Higher Power that is wiser and more powerful than the devil, can we receive grace to know and walk in the truth that will set us free.

"But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up." -James 4:6-10

The single most misquoted verse in all the Bible, in my observation, is found in this conditional promise:
"Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." -John 8:31-32

Whenever we fail to continue in Christ's word, we are no longer his disciples indeed; the truth becomes obscure and irrelevant, and the truth no longer works as Jesus declared that it would; leaving us in a prison of deception and lies.

Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have the exact measure of the injustice and wrong which will be imposed on them. - Frederick Douglass

Smells like sulphur

Christ chased the moneychangers out of the Temple. He didn't change his positions to maybe, pretty please, eventually be granted the privilege to audit the moneychangers. He didn't approve the use of drones to stop a raving lunatic from disrupting the "free trade" zone around the Temple.

Not this American...

questioned Bush then and question him now (considering his policies are still in place and have been ratcheted up).

My question is how in the world do these people sleep at night?

The law cannot make a wicked person virtuous…God’s grace alone can accomplish such a thing.

There is only 2 answers to your question.

1.) They actually believe they are doing the right thing.

2.) They are devoid of all humanity and conscience which makes them sociopaths.
