Michael Scheuer: The Idea That They're Attacking Us Because Of Our Culture And Freedom Is Insane

"We should have went to Afghanistan and won the war. We went to Afghanistan, spent 13 years and got chased out by guys with weapons from the Korean War. The Islamists started this war, they explained to us as clearly as General Giap and Ho Chi Minh explained to us why they were fighting us and we have ignored it. Mrs. Clinton has ignored it, Bill Clinton, George Bush, Barack Obama. The idea that they're attacking us because of our culture is insane. We are now waging a war against them culturally. We're trying to impose democracy, women's rights, parliamentary systems on a people who don't want it. They're going to fight that. They don't care if we vote, why should they care about that?"

Freed is full of it. And disingenious.

Mr. Fred forgets, conveniently, that we have been bombing in the ME since the 50's. That we meddle in their affairs, setting up & arming dictators, then changing our minds & taking them out & so on has not gone well for US.

Fred doesn't say anything about our drone strikes that kill a lotta ME civilians.

Ron Paul was very correct when he said "They attack us because we are over there!"

Fred also forgets/fails to acknowledge that our foreign policy of interventionism really PO's the radical elements of Islam & galvanizes support for their attacks on the USA.

Not to mention that all the blowback we fall prey to is a grand excuse, like the war on some drugs, to start locking down the USA & militarizing our police forces. That citizens of Boston accepted martial law with hardly a whimper after the bombings tells me that the sheep in this country really need a wake up call. "Boston strong!"?? Stupid foolish sheep!!!

The 9-11 attacks & other retaliatory strikes against US are because of our FP & pushing ME countries around. The neg sentiment from the ME toward US is a direct result of OUR interventionism. The revenge sentiment was not initially based on our freedom ect, but rather because we were in their countries seeking giants to destroy. Our Founders warned us about that.

Our intervention & their blowback did not START as a cultural thing...

Fred is a great war monger. Fred seems to love the military industrial complex & doesn't seem to mind that our sowing discord in the ME with our military actions has brought blowback on US. Fred uses all the current excuses, but needs to wake up to the fact that we can't afford the harvest of destruction our interventionist foreign policy is bringing US.

Liked the moderator

Not the typical Fox tool/airhead. Seemed intelligent and understood Scheuer's arguments.

Scheuer is pretty good at messaging

He COULD be better*, but I don't bash the good because I'm obsessed with the perfect. Scheuer is the kind of ally we need to make better use of!

(* OK. How could he be better, you ask? There's great persuasive power in admitting that your opponent has a point. Fleitz actually does that here, while Scheuer does not. Scheuer has the right side of the argument, and gets a B+ in how he frames it. To get an A, he needs to satisfy those who are inclined to believe a Fleitz because of fear, bigotry, etc. Doing so requires you to acknowledge the foundation of their argument, but argue that cultural/religious differences alone won't motivate someone to carry out suicide terrorism.)

One of the best books

I've read so far is Michael Scheuer's book on Osama Bin Laden. If anyone hasn't read it, find a copy and read it. I'm with Scheuer, I don't care if they deny women rights in middle eastern countries. We have enough problems regulating our own government's behavior in the United States.

Love this guy!

I'd rather die on my feet than live on my knees...

The pro-war, pro-imperialism

The pro-war, pro-imperialism people like Fleitz never explain why Islamic terrorists don't bomb Switzerland, which has democracy, woman's rights, and free speech.

Who cares was right on.... honestly everything our govt does now

has very little to do with any of us and very much to do with globalization of government

A true flower can not blossom without sunlight and a true man can not live without love.

Who Cares!

LMAO, I died when he wailed that out. Who Cares!??

The other guy even laughed.

Actually, we started this war

western civilization that is. It was called the Crusades. For them it has never ended.

Well, if you're going to go

Well, if you're going to go back that far you should be more balanced. Islam has a long history of spreading through military conquest. That's why Turkey and Albania are Muslim today. Heck, even Egypt was once a predominantly Christian country, a part of the Byzantine Empire, before it was conquered by Muslims in the 7th century. The Crusades were one long failure, while many of the Islamic conquests were permanent. I am of course not making a case for imposing American military hegemony on Islamic countries today, I am simply pointing out that political correctness gives a very unbalanced view of history.

Islam spread by the sword for four hundred years before pope Urban II called for the first crusade at the urging of Constantinople in 1052. The first crusade was a defensive war. I urge everyone to read The Politically Incorrect guide to Islam and the Crusades.

Does that mean Santorum IS crazy after all?

Does that mean Santorum IS, in fact, crazy after all?

Go figger.

"Cowards & idiots can come along for the ride but they gotta sit in the back seat!"

Hahahaha good one

Btw love the sig.

I'd rather die on my feet than live on my knees...

The article reminded me of

The article reminded me of the phrase

I hate the fact that Fox

I hate the fact that Fox gives you two horseshit opposing stories and then you have to cheer for the one that is the least assaulting to your intelligence.

"Government is the entertainment division of the military-industrial complex". - Frank Zappa

Catch what the hussy said at the end?

The types of people she goes out to dinner with are talking about these things. Amazing. I almost wanna be like no no no no no honey you people don't talk about these things you will hurt yourself...but this is what we wanted right?

Most of those who think so actually don't and most of those who think sew actually rip.

I was taught, when growing up, to basically 'mind my own business'--live my life and allow others to live theirs. The US government is trying to tell other countries how to live. We have homeless people, people without jobs, a failing education system, a failing economy, etc....yet we think we have the right to tell others how to live?? Hypocrites! The unmitigated gall! This attitude is what really ticks me off! Perhaps we should 'clean up our own mess FIRST', perhaps we should 'get this country straightened out'--BEFORE we tell other countries what to do?! Maybe?

Ron Paul 2012...and beyond

Habit4, good observations.

If "they attack us because we're free!" is true, the terrorists are soon gonna have to come up with another reason. We are less free every day as the D & R lib progs take the US down as they follow the Cloward Piven Strategy & use Rules For Radicals as a supplementary guide book.

The latest example of our govt gone wild is the martial law "get them used to it in increments" physical propaganda exercise in Boston. Like B-Frank said, "Those who trade liberty for security will soon have neither!" or something like that.

Boy howdy, do we ever need to turn back to Nature's God.

Michael Scheuer Is Awesome

Michael Scheuer Is Awesome

Yes, he is! When he made the

Yes, he is! When he made the point about how WE'RE the ones forcing our culture on them was awesome. Because the Neocon was claiming that our enemies want to force their culture on us. So I guess he thinks it's good for us to do to them, but not the other way around.
